Meego Now Available For Nokia N900 But End Users Should Stay Away

News of the Meego OS now being available for the Nokia N900 are spreading, but end users should stay clear. As explained in the announcement, it is currently targeted for developers and the MeeGo User Experiences for the OS isn’t included yet. Unsuspecting and adventurous users who try installing it on their device will just see text on black and white screen.

I’m sure developers are excited over this announcement, but those like me who just care about using mobile devices should move along. Nothing to see here… yet. What I want on my Nokia N900 yesterday right now is the next major software update also known as PR1.2.

    Thank you for the screenshot. I was wondering if they got fbcon working on the N900, but now I see it's a plain unstyled xterm.

    Hi. I am a software engineer with over 24 years of experience (Unix, 1984; Linux 1994. Symbian user, 2008). Any chance of being an early adopter/guinea pig for a meego device?

    Nokia really botched this up from a marketing perspective. Why announce all this when “meego” as far as the N900 is concerned is nothing but X and an Xterm.

    I dont want to hear a damn thing about meego until it actually does some thing, until then Nokia should support maemo and a “clandestine” transitioning of Maemo to Qt and meego compliance, then later, when they have anything to show… announce that they have a new shiney OS for N900 that is a joint effort.

    Im still pissed that Nokia is fracturing efforts on the N900 and causing confusion.. what the F is wrong with you Ari Jaaks .. ive never seen WORSE product management in my life.

    well since the initial statement from MWC was around merging these two OS' one would expect the first release to meet much of the N900 initial release the geeks at heart. I am not geek and am saving up for the N900 and see this announcement by Nokia/Intel as a good step in showing that progress is being made. Ranting on the hand is one thing but if you are worried about their marketing this isn't marketing this is opening up to communities that wish to work on it and make it better than the Iphone OS etc out there…so really calm down a bit

    where the hell is the update with the use of the second camera,separate ringtones for different contacts, portrait mode for desktop?is this a joke? as it turns out the nokia 5800 is a million time better and only cost a third of what the n900 does…. nokia i want my money back, thieves.

    nokia just sickens me man pleeese just develop a better community, apps and upgrades 4 u're current phones (N8, N900) and take your time and stop rushing beautiful products with a dead end future.

    You already have 40% a majority of whom have never bought anything but nokia phones. I love nokia but your need to come correct if you want to mess with apple (iphone,ipod,ipad) I have the N900 which has great features it's just missing a couple things to make it a killer device.

    @ chana there is an app in the application manager that I just downloaded the other day for sending MMS. N900 does not have MMS in it originally. You need to download the app.
