Nokia N8 is the World’s First Handset Featuring Dolby Digital Plus
Dolby Labs and Nokia announced a partnership that will enable Nokia to feature Dolby surround sound technologies into select handsets worldwide. The Nokia N8 will be the first device to incorporate the Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound technology. It is expected in the third quarter this year.

“The collaboration between Nokia and Dolby, a world leader in entertainment technology, now brings cinema-like experiences to mobile,” said Jo Harlow, head of smart phones, Nokia. “The Nokia N8 is the first smart phone to offer a true home theater experience with HD quality and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound by simply plugging the device into a home theater system with an HDMI(TM) cable.”
The Nokia N8 can output high definition content with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 channel surround sound to HD-ready TVs, audio/video receivers (AVRs), and home theater systems via an HDMI connection.
Doesn’t that sound crazy? We’ve reached a point in technology in which we can plug our phones into surround sound speaker systems and HDTV’s. The N8 also has internal memory of 16GB and a microSD slot that can fit up to 32GB more for storing your music and movies on the go.
