Meego Handset UI Guideline Revealed. Includes Hints of WebOS & Android

post thumbnail

A document titled, MeeGo Handset Interaction Guidelines, was found buried deep within the official Meego site a few days ago. Although there were no images, it described an overall interaction model for the OS expected on upcoming high-end Nokia devices. It has been deleted already, but no online documents are safe from Google Cache! I’ve highlighted some things that looked interesting.

Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s Executive VP for Markets, announced at Mobey Forum on Thursday that all new Nokia smartphones from 2011 will come with Near Field Communication (NFC). A new discovery for the Nokia N8 opens up some cool possibilities. FoneArena published a video showing a bluetooth mouse controlling the N8. I think this could be really useful in the living room while the device is connected to a big-screen TV for movies or at the office for giving presentations. Take a look.

I met with Nokia folks at the Dolby offices in New York City to preview the Nokia N8. I wondered about the location, but it made sense after remembering that the Nokia N8 is world’s first handset featuring Dolby Digital Plus. The whole ordeal was only an hour, so it left me wanting more. Read on for video and photos.

I’ve been playing with the Nokia E73 Mode for a few days now and I want to share with you what I think. It’s 2010 and we’re already used to seeing phones with large touchscreens, but it looks like Qwerty-only devices from Nokia aren’t going away anytime soon. The E73 Mode launches for T-mobile USA on June 16th, 2010 for $69.99 with 2-yr contract.

The Nokia E73 Mode isn’t expected to go on sale until June 16th, but TmoNews already found one in the wild and took a bunch of hands-on photos. After having some time with it, they say Nokia, “still makes some of the best looking phones on the planet.”

post thumbnail

Hermes for the Nokia N900 is an awesome tool that fills in your contacts’ missing info and photo with data found from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Gravatar. It was a pain doing it manually for unmatched names, but the new version 0.8.2 now contains find-as-you-type contact matching for faster results.
