Amazing Facts About the Nokia N8 Camera from Carl Zeiss
Here’s a video of Dr. Hubert Nasse of Carl Zeiss talking about the camera module included in the new Nokia N8 smartphone during Photokina 2010 in Cologne. He says that the Carl Zeiss lens inside the N8 are made out of 5 single optical elements with complex shapes never seen before in large scale optics. This results in excellent image quality. Symbian^3 Device Heading to AT&T Early 2011, Most Likely Nokia C6-01
Nokia and AT&T jointly announced today the 2010 Calling All Innovators. It’s a contest with $10 million (USD) in cash and prizes up for grabs for developers to create new applications and games for the new Nokia N8 and future Nokia devices for consumers in the U.S. and Canada. If that’s not a clear sign that the Nokia N8 or something similar is heading to AT&T, it gets clearer in the contest rules.
Nokia N8 Demo of Check-in from Nokia World 2010
Jennifer Altgen, Product Manager of Check-in for Ovi Maps, gives us a demo of Nokia’s location sharing solution on the Nokia N8. With Check-in, you can manually share where you are and what you are up to with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and many others such as RenRen and StudiVZ. Watch the video after the jump.
Nokia N8 Still Shipping by End of September, says Nokia
Nokia is on damage control by posting a shipping update on their official Conversations blog. The main message is that Nokia still expects to start the shipments by the end of September, but customers should expect to receive their Nokia N8 in October. Interestingly, nothing was mentioned about ‘final amends.’
Nokia N8 Hands-on from Nokia World 2010
We have a hands-on overview of the Nokia N8 from Sami Maala, one of the Product Managers at Nokia. This was taken from Nokia World in London. Mr. Maala goes over the hardware and software features. Become a Mayor of the Nokia N8 on Foursquare & Win the Real Thing
Vodafone UK is launching a Foursquare treasure hunt called the ‘Mobile Mayor challenge’ which will award 7 lucky winners with a new Nokia N8. The challenge will invite people to ‘check in’ to one of six Nokia N8s ahead of the official launch. The person who is the mayor of one of the Nokia N8’s at 6pm on Saturday 2 October will be crowned as Mobile Mayor and will take home an all new Nokia N8.
Nokia N8 Demo of Plug and Touch from Nokia Research Center
Nokia Plug and Touch is a gesture-based technology from Beijing’s Nokia Research Center (NRC). It can transform any screen into a touchscreen. Marshall from NRC shows us this technology direct from Nokia World in London. He uses the Nokia N8 connected to an HDTV via the HDMI output. The gestures are recognized by the Nokia N8′s camera.
