Swype for Symbian^3 Now at Ovi Store, Install it on Your Nokia N8

I was pretty excited to hear that Swype showed up at the Ovi Store for Symbian^3 devices. It’s a keyboard replacement that I’m absolutely in love with on the Android platform and glad that it’s now available on the new Symbian^3 devices like the Nokia N8. If the app is not showing up at the Ovi Store for your N8, there’s a direct link for download.

Click this link from your Nokia N8 (or other Symbian^3 devices) to install Swype. It should open the Ovi Store on your device with a download button. You need to reboot after installation.

A quick explanation of Swype is that it lets you swipe your fingers over the letters to type instead of pressing them individually. It works really well after learning how to use it. FYI, the Guinness World Record for the fastest text message ever was done with Swype!

One thing that’s disappointing is that Swype 1.0 for Symbian^3 currently supports landscape view. I hope they update it soon to support portrait view. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

    Im unable to download with this link, on nokia i got that is unavaiable and via mozilla i got “that content is not avaiable fo your country” im in Poland… strange.

    i am unable to download it either..link nor ovi store! Have an N8 in the US..

      Weird. I just tried again and it worked for me. Try entring the URL manually in ur N8′s browser: http://store.ovi.mobi/content/58438

        It simply launches the Ovi Store client Mark, which then says not available in your country.

          Can you upload the installer (.sis file) to any filesharing site and post the link for the N8 swype ?
          It is not available in my region too

    Though ive zero interest in it until it supports portrait mode, thus making the N8 usable.

      You can start by writing a text message. Unfortunately, this version of swype only works in landscape view.

    Anyone having issue with the setting saving? When change a setting and back out it reverts back to what they were. I also can’t reinstall it because you have to turn off the swype keyboard.

      I am having the same problem. I want to go back to the Nokia keybord but I can’t.

    When I click the link I get the message “Ovi store not available” with N8 although I am able use the store otherwise. The same with the direct link from PC and N8.

    cannot be uninstalled onced installed

      Of course it can. Through the application manager.

        Nope. In order for application manager to uninstall it, you have to change the inout method to “No”. However, it doesn’t retain the “No” setting….even if you reboot. So once installed, you are stuck with it!!!

    The version I downloaded from Nokia Beta Labs the other day has a portrait mode (Nokia N97). The keys are pretty much unuseably small but it is there – choose “mini QWERTY keyboard” from the input type.
