Nokia 6120 Classic Used as Detonator to the Yemen Bombs
I don’t know how they did it, but F-secure determined the Nokia 6120 classic as the detonator to one of the explosives sent from Yemen and bound for Chicago. Fortunately the suspicious packages were intercepted before causing harm. Photo of the detonator after the jump.

The photo above shows the device found attached to a toner cartridge in a suspicious package on a cargo plane in England. The photo below that shows a spare part of the Nokia 6120 Classic. As you can see, it’s a match. According to F-secure, “the bombs would have been detonated by calling the phone, triggering the ring vibrating motor which would detonate the PETN inside the cartridge.” Check out the New York Times for more details on yesterday’s explosive story.
Update: Looks like the original source is 4chan thanks to commenter Djdjtjfjf for pointing it out. Here’s a quote from Anonymous who figured it out:
I found out it was a nokia phone by searching for “13 pin out phone” since I counted 13 pads on what looked like a parallel port and once I realized it was nokia: the compatability list for the cable I found narrowed it to about 10 options, From there I just googled “Nokia [model] PCB layout” and such until I found what I was looking for.
