Nokia to Introduce New User Experience with MeeGo in 2011

Senior VP, Design & User Experience at Nokia, Marko Ahtisaari, spoke at the LeWeb conference today about the dominant patterns of interface and user experience in the smartphone industry. There’s the pattern used by iOS with just a screen full of apps and home button, and the pattern used by Symbian and Android. The introduction of Windows Phone 7 shows there’s demand for other patterns, and Nokia will introduce a new one with MeeGo in 2011. Video of the talk after the jump.

“If you look at people using touchscreen devices today, they’ve got their heads down,” said Marko. “You’ll see couples in coffee shops who’ve been together 10-15 years both sat with their heads down, operating their devices. We need to give people their head up again.” Unfortunately, he couldn’t show the new UI today.

Do you now have higher expectations for MeeGo? Let’s hope Nokia delivers.
