post thumbnail

Engadget reported today, via respected Finnish tech magazine Prosessori, that the Nokia N9 will launch with a 1.2GHz Atom processor. Even better news is that it could be announced at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona. Anyone else getting excited?

Nokia Will Let You Chat with the Annoying Orange

You may have noticed that Annoying Orange appeared on Nokia’s Youtube channel just before Christmas and told you to keep your eyes peeled. We just learned that one of the things the Annoying Orange will do with Nokia is a Chatterbox. In a few weeks, you will be able to use your IM for Nokia and Ovi Chat to CHATTERBOX to the Annoying Orange himself.

The Finns can pre-order the E7 for 599 EUR while the Swedes can get them for 5,995 KR. If you’re American, the US dollar conversions might make you cry.

What Happened to Framestore FX Studio for Nokia N8?

post thumbnail

Before the Nokia N8 was released, Framestore and Nokia announced an app that would let people add Hollywood-quality special effects to their video clips. They ran a competition in July 2010 and even showed it off at TEDx last November. So… where is the app? It appears to be still in development.

Shazam for Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 Now Available at Ovi Store

post thumbnail

Shazam is now officially available for the new Symbian phones: Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 (and the E7 when it comes out). If you haven’t heard of Shazam before, it can identify music anywhere: from TV, radio or in a bar. You can discover and buy music tracks, find tour dates for tagged artists and buy tickets to the gig, share tags and get music recommendations.

The Unofficial, Unannounced Nokia X7 No Longer Heading to AT&T

post thumbnail

How could a device not officially announced by neither Nokia nor AT&T get cancelled? Today’s rumor is the Nokia X7 is no longer heading to AT&T. Someone familiar with the matter told us the X7 is indeed no longer heading to AT&T, but an unlocked version will still be released in several markets. I wonder how this affects their joint announcement during CES that a Qt-enabled Symbian smartphone is coming to AT&T in the first quarter.

post thumbnail

The Esphoneblog received mail that the Nokia Ovi Music Unlimited will be discontinued in Finland. Will other countries soon follow? According to the letter, devices bundled with Ovi Music Unlimited will no longer ship from Nokia’s factories this year. Customers can still activate the 1-year subscription on devices currently on the market, and current subscribers will not be affected. Check out the letter after the jump.

Ovi Store Introduces Search Spell Correction

post thumbnail

Noka just added spell correction for search on the Ovi Store. This should hopefully make it easier to find what you’re looking for. I intentionally typed “nee for speed,” and the store properly suggested “need for speed.” I think it’s a subtle addition many users will like.

What to do with Symbian? Analyst Suggests 4 Options for Nokia

post thumbnail

Less than a month from now, Nokia will present their strategy for the upcoming year to shareholders and analysts at an event called Capital Markets Day. Rumors about adopting Android and Windows Phone 7 in Nokia devices have been brought up several times before, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to have another analyst today telling Forbes that Nokia is better off without Symbian.

$10M Calling All Innovators Contest Loaning Nokia C7′s to Developers

post thumbnail

Last September, Nokia and AT&T jointly announced the $10 million Calling All Innovators contest. It’s a competition for developers to create new applications and games for the Nokia N8 and future Nokia devices for consumers in the U.S. and Canada. There’s still time to enter and they just launched a loaner program so developers can test their apps on a Nokia C7.
