Symbian Update PR1.1 – That’s It?
Symbian software update 1.1 started to roll out and Nokia Conversations posted the changes. The update is available from today for the Nokia C7 and will be available for the Nokia N8 and C6-01 next week. My initial reaction to changelog is, “That’s it?” Take a look at the list after the jump.

- Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations;
- Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
- New Quick Office 6.4 editor version for Nokia N8 users.
- Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire are pre-preloaded on the Nokia N8
I was a little disappointed because I expected more. I wanted to see the portrait Qwerty keyboard, integrated Swype input and a new browser that Nokia’s Senior Vice President, Smartphones, Jo Harlow mentioned last November. Kevin from GigaOm shares the same feeling. He wrote, “the lack of substance to this update illustrates a major challenge Nokia faces: it continues to move as if it the year is 2001, not 2011.”
Don’t lose hope though. Conversations wrote today’s update is not the last one and further goodies are on the way. Are you growing impatient?
Update: Anonymous tipster added some other benefits for PR1.1:
* Social app is improved – photo and video upload works better in the
background
* Ovi Store will be preloaded on handsets with pr1.1, so no need to
download it first time out of the box.
I agree that it’s a little underwhelming, but I’ve got a C7 with PR2 on it already so it can’t be far behind for the general public. NFC apps and portrait QWERTY work great.
