Developers Getting Free Nokia E7, Windows Phone, Admission to Nokia World

Launchpad is designed to help accelerate development and elevate business visibility through Ovi store.

Intel Giving Away Lots of Cash, Trip to Antarctica, Jet Flight & More for MeeGo Developers

Intel is currently offering several incentives for developers to create MeeGo apps. The prizes look very interesting. How does a trip to South Pole sound? How about flying former military jets at supersonic speeds? If you’re not into that, you can opt for cash. The first 100 submitted quality apps also get $500 and the best 10 of those apps get $1000.

Suggest a brand new idea for a mobile app and if your idea is selected by the judges, you win a trip to South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Submissions can be short essays (50 words minimum) or a video (shorter than 3 minutes). This contest is only open to residents of the United States.

Finnish Union Demands EUR 100K to Each Nokia Employee Laid Off From Strategy Overhaul

Chairman of a large Finnish trade union, Antti Rinne, told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday it will demand Nokia to pay EUR 100,000 to each employee it lays off as part of its strategy overhaul. The union represents 5,000 Nokia employees. Rinne says the lump sum in addition to their severance payment will pay for their reeducation.

The Nokia N8 goes prime time! Here’s a new 30-second TV spot that airs during the Grammys (Feb 13th) and the Academy Awards (Feb 27th). The singer says, “Don’t fence me in,” while the speaker says, “Made for making… the Nokia N8.” Check it out.

Nokia’s First MeeGo Device Rejected by Operators

The first planned Nokia MeeGo device was rejected by operators because of a flimsy keyboard, according to TechCrunch’s unnamed source. It was originally scheduled for announcement late last year. I’m having a hard time remembering any Nokia device with a loose keyboard! Nevertheless, TechCrunch says a keyboard-less MeeGo device could be announced tomorrow at Mobile World Congress.

Deal: Nokia N8 $399 at Amazon

The Nokia N8 is now available at Amazon for a lower price of $399. Coupons are unnecessary, but we’re not sure when the deal expires. After today’s announcement of Symbian’s expected death, maybe the price will keep going down. Don’t get mad at me though if you miss the deal.

Nokia’s Symbian Heading Towards Extinction
