Ovi Store Going Down for Maintenance March 9th 6PM EST

The Ovi Publisher Support Team reminds us that the Ovi Store will undergo maintenance this Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 from 18:00 to 22:30 EST. The Ovi Store will be unavailable to users at that time while Nokia will be implementing some changes. We’ll update you with more specifics of the improvements once the Ovi Store is online again.

Nokia Appoints Sebastian Nyström as Head of MeeGo

Off with the old, on with the new. The MeeGo blog announced today that Sebastian Nyström has been appointed to head the MeeGo team at Nokia. He has been leading Qt at Nokia. Sebastion replaces Alberto Torres who left the company during the Nokia/Windows announcement last February.

Nokia To Be Among First Brands to Advertise on Skype

Skype is planning to launch advertising in their software this week. Nokia will be among the first few brands to participate in this channel. Skype reached 145 million average monthly connected users for the fourth quarter of 2010 and 29 million concurrent users at peak times. That’s a lot of people to market Nokia products.

T-Mobile USA Might Release The Nokia C7 as Tiger This Month

TmoNews is reporting that T-Mobile USA might be releasing the Nokia C7 as the Nokia Tiger later this month. If the price is right, this device could sell well in the US. Better late than never? Let’s wait and see if this rumor turns out to be true.

Nokia N8 Ad Winner of TED Ads Worth Spreading Award

TED selected the 10 winners of their first Ads Worth Spreading competition and the Nokia N8 made it to the list! TED explained these ads were so good you chose to watch. Get Better Audio in Your Videos by Recording Separately and Syncing with DualEyes

Professional filmmakers record their audio separately to get better sound. They rarely use the built-in microphone from the camera. The files are usually synced in post-production. I wanted to try this myself. I recorded a video with my Nokia N8 and recorded the audio on a Zoom H1 with lavalier microphone. Syncing the two files was easy thanks to the desktop application called DualEyes.

Conan Makes a Tribute to Nokia Ringtone

Conan says he’s a big deal in Finland, but his show is unavailable on Finnish TV. Well that’s about to change. This week, full episodes of the show will be available on TeamCoco.com to the people of Finland. To honor the announcement, Conan’s band made a tribute to Finland’s greatest product: the Nokia cellphone.

Nokia announced on Wednesday plans to establish a new manufacturing site in northern Vietnam. The site would be Nokia’s eleventh major manufacturing facility. The new manufacturing site is being established to meet the growth in demand for feature phones.
