Nokia to Reveal a New Market Disrupting Device on June 21st

iTWire reported they received an invitation from Nokia Australia for an announcement and demo of a “new market disrupting device” on June 21st. Following the demo will be a live broadcast of Stephen Elop’s keynote speech from the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. You might remember that Stephen Elop previously described MeeGo as their “future disruption in mobile ecosystem.” That makes us assume we’ll be seeing a Nokia MeeGo device next week.

Nokia Connection 2011

The Nokia Connection event website says they’ll “showcase the latest and newest devices and services to customers, operators, media and analysts from the region.” That means we could be seeing multiple device announcements. I’m hoping to see a Nokia Windows phone, too. The event is just one week away. You excited?

Yes, very! It’s time for a WP phone!

Only excited for the Meego device; and not even too much, since their change in plans in february..

    It’ll likely be WP7.
The deal between MS and Nokia was market disruption in itself.
Personally, I’m waiting for their harmattan device. I’ve been faithfully waiting with my N900 for the past two years.

Hoping to see the N9(50) touting Meego pridefully. Would be nice to see it in CDMA flavor, but that is dreaming I’m sure.

My guess is they will be revealing a Nokia tablet

Hopefully not a WP7 phone. It would be nice for them not to announce something then take a 4 or 5 months to bring it to market.
The phone will be awesome right then, but looses its appeal as when it hits the market, everyone has moved on and the phone looses out

No point getting excited.  I’ve been through this cycle a few times with Nokia.  It goes something like this:

      0) Hear rumors on upcoming devices for a few months.  Amongst the info gleaned, they’ll be a few obvious photoshopped images doing the rounds followed by “leaked” specs.  Usually everything at this stage is dubious.

      1) Official details are unveiled at a select event, usually with yet more photoshopped material, this time official.  Sometimes the announced features make you go “wow” until you find out several months later  the hardware (RAM/CPU/C Drive) is borderline.

      2) Hype builds up after the announcement but the product won’t ship for at least another 6 months.  Rumors start on the actual specs and most are over optimistic.

      3) Product gets delayed for a few more months.  The competition proceed half a generation ahead of their last major effort (which is already ahead of No-kee-ya).

4a) Finally new device ships with much fanfare from Nokia and press that give it praise but so much time has elapsed it’s DOA.  Early adopters get punished with numerous hardware and software problems.

4b) In forthcoming keynotes, Nokia press drones openly lie about how this device will receive continual support and/or key features such as Skype and they go as far as to even show some mock ups on what’s coming next.  No specific dates are mentioned but implications are made it’ll be soon!

      5) Months pass, end users are left to discover hardware issues and countless bugs.  Nokia keep quiet or play down the issue(s).  Occasionally they’ll come clean when lying doesn’t fix the problem.

      6) End users eagerly await the so called promised updates, thus starting another cycle of rumor/announcement/hype/delay/delay/delay/delivery/disappinted (repeat as required) for software updates and in the meantime also another one for possibly new device announcements!

      Have I summed it up?

WP7 makes me sick, its nothing but pretty transitions and icons, plus its very consumer oriented.

I want my raw Linux power.

This article is linked to the Meego web site. How about that?

Well Elop is in desperate mode and he said before that all new product annoucements will have no more than 6 months prior release announcements, since WP7 will be released in the end of 2011 or begining of 2012, this is the right time.

Also there are rumors that N9 will be delivered using MeeGo

Hoping for WP, but i think it’s too early.
