Nokia Drive 3.0 came out a few days ago and I’m really liking it. The highlight of the update is My Commute, but unfortunately that’s currently only available in the US. The feature from this update that I really like is adding favorite places to the home screen for instant navigation. It has been very useful while we’re traveling in Malaysia.
You can add favorites from search results and you can also set your current location as favorite. You can access the list of favorite places in the navigation options and pin any of them to the home screen.
Nokia Drive also works great in offline mode. Back in the US, I didn’t understand why people would need to turn off data in their phones because I had an unlimited plan, but I now see why after traveling here in Asia. Data isn’t affordable for everyone and it’s mostly used with time limit or data amount limit. Offline mode saves people money.
If there’s one thing I’d like to see in Nokia Drive, it would be the capability to press and hold anywhere on the map to add a favorite. Right now, you either have to use search or your current location.
We’ve been using Nokia Drive on the Nokia Lumia 900. We’ve been using it here in Penang, Malaysia for a few weeks now with a rented motorcycle. The app has been really helpful in not getting us lost. I don’t have a mount for the phone on the motorcycle so I just pull over to check the screen once in a while.
By the way, it has now been 5 months since we packed up everything and left New York City to travel. Follow our adventure at Married2Travel.
