How Would You Fix Windows Phone?

WPCentral made a list of 8 things that Microsoft needs to fix in Windows Phone 8. I strongly agree with three things they mentioned, and don’t care so much about the rest. How would you fix Windows Phone?

One of the 8 things mentioned was a notification center. It doesn’t exist on Windows Phone 8. It’s found on Android, iOS, and even BlackBerry 10. It can be argued that the Live Tiles *is* the notification center, but as I mentioned previously, it’s not enough.

Another issue for Windows Phone 8 is Instagram. It’s also not available for the OS. A handful of my friends want to switch to Lumia, but not having Instagram is a deal breaker. According to WPCentral’s conversations with Best Buy and AT&T employees and even a waitress, they all said the same thing. There were many times when I left the Nokia Lumia 920 at home and carried an Android device instead because I wanted to share photos on Instagram.

The third thing I’d like on Windows Phone 8 is a way to close apps. I rarely need to do so, but I’d like to have that option whenever I’m in the multitasking view (press and hold the back button).

I think those are the three things that need to get fixed on Windows Phone. I’d love to hear your opinion.

I’m happy as long as embedded videos in blog posts work

    notification center
quick acsses to notifications From lock screen
    Close apps
More custimizations (Colors, bg, more tile sizes…)
    LPS

This is what I want most. But many people are waiting for many other apps such as viber. Apps will come but features are more important for success

      What’s LPS?

    One word: Spotify.

Waiting for that too, but Nokia’s Mix Radio is actually pretty good

I literally JUST got my 920 back yesterday. Xbox Music sucks so yeah, I’m finally going to give Mix Radio a go.

        Fingers crossed it’s OK.

Like the Instagram app, not catering commonly used apps for LGBT people is another hindrance for us to pick up Windows Phone. If only apps like Grindr are made available, I would expect Windows Phone to loose getting some rainbow love.

You can close apps. Settings>Applications>Background tasks. Pressing and holding the back button will show the last 6 actions you have performed. They are bookmarks to make life easier. The engine can deal with open apps. Wanting to close apps is an old fashioned state of mind when having apps open slowed the phone down. This simply doesn’t happen on a Windows 8 phone

    • joeybowles

It’s not old fashioned. What’s wrong with wanting to easily close an app. Even if it does nothing in the system, it gives closure to the human. You do know you can “close” an app in Win8. Is that old fashioned?
