Thoughts on the Nokia 808 PureView
I’ve always been a fan of Nokia’s cameraphones because it meant carrying one device instead of a point-and-shoot camera AND a phone. In regards to imaging, my favorites were the Nokia N93, N82, N86 8MP, and the N8. Nokia recently announced the 808 PureView which is going to be Nokia’s best imaging phone yet. I’ve played with the device at Mobile World Congress and was impressed especially with the technology behind it. There’s just one problem. It’s not a Windows Phone device.

Preview of the Future With Qualcomm at CES
A week before CES, Qualcomm’s social media team reached out to see if I’d be interested to be one of their ambassadors. In exchange, they’d cover some of the expenses during the show. I’ve gone through so many smartphones in the past year and I’ve never really looked deeply into the tiny bits of technology inside the devices. All I really cared about was the was overall experience. After a quick Google search, I was surprised to find out that 100% of Windows Phone devices like the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Nokia Lumia 800 were using the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Windows Phone: How Would You Change The Name?
Windows Phone 7 (WP) is a very promising, intuitive, and addictive OS to use. However in this post, I want to point out the naming strategy of this Metro-styled OS. Many non-techy people don’t know such OS exists. If you ask them about WP they’d think it’s the old Windows Mobile. Some people think it’s Windows 7 on a phone (!). Others think it’s just as buggy as the desktop Windows. They’re biased even before trying it.
Windows Phone 7.5 Now Rolling Out
We have good news if you can’t wait for the Nokia Windows Phone but want to play with the new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS already. The Windows team blog just announced they’ve started rolling out the Mango update to phones around the world. As a reminder, Windows Phone 7.5 (aka Mango) is their largest and most feature-packed software refresh to date.
Iceland Roadrip: Nokia Report Card
I’m currently at a hostel on my last night in Iceland to sit down and report how well Nokia devices have treated my family during our mini vacation. The Nokia N8 was my main device while the Nokia Astound (also known as the Nokia C7) was borrowed by my wife. I got one prepaid data-only SIM card for the Nokia N8 because it was the only unlocked mobile phone we had on this trip.
First Nokia Windows Phone Leaked on Video
This is too good to be a “leak.” The first video of a Nokia Windows phone just showed up . It has CEO Stephen Elop in it asking the audience to turn off their cameras and recording devices. The video comes from Technet which also had multiple cameras and direct feed access to the overhead display. Honestly, it looked produced by Nokia themselves. Take a look.
Samsung to Acquire Nokia?
A few weeks ago, Nokia stepped forward to say that rumors of a Microsoft acquisition was baseless. How will Nokia respond now to the latest reports that Samsung is preparing to acquire them? The speculation originally came from the The Wall Street Journal. Mobile insider Eldar Murtazin tweeted this is a rumor started by Nokia to put pressure on Microsoft.
