Symbian Pokes at the iPhone During SXSW
I’m hanging out at SXSW this weekend with the winners from the WOM World Nokia video contest. The thousands of people who entered the convention center received a bag of goodies. Among the swag was a card-sized ad for Symbian with a nice little remark against the iPhone. Take a look.

Joikuspot Premium for the Nokia N900 came out of beta on Monday and is now available for sale at the Joikushop for EUR 7. When asked if we’ll be seeing it at the Ovi Store, they responded, “the Ovi Store process is already on-going. Typically it takes some days.” Joikuspot turns your Nokia N900 into a wifi hotspot.
Skype Excluded from Ovi Store in the US Because of Verizon Deal
When I couldn’t find Skype for Symbian at the Ovi Store here in the US after the announcement, I thought there was probably a temporary delay. However, a Skype representative told Venturebeat that the app was intentionally excluded to drive more attention to a recent deal with Verizon Wireless. Read on for the quote.

Skype for Symbian is now downloadable for free from the Ovi Store according to the joint announcement on Wednesday. It will allow Nokia users worldwide to make free Skype-to-Skype calls and save money on calls and SMS to phones abroad. This is great for those who have an unlimited data plan.

Nokia Introduces the New Nokia C5
Nokia officially unveiled the Nokia C5 on Tuesday, an affordable smartphone optimized for social networking and sharing. I was actually surprised they introduced it on their Twitter and Facebook page before the press release. It’s fitted with a 2.2-inch screen, 240 x 320 resolution, 3.2 mp camera, 2GB microSD card, and more.
Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition Firmware Updated to v40 – Feels Incomplete
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition got a firmware update to software version 40.2.005, but it feels incomplete. Kinetic scrolling is not applied everywhere like in the Nokia N97 mini and the original N97. The new Ovi maps with free navigation isn’t included within the new firmware either, so you have another download to take care of if you haven’t installed it previously.
Nokia To Announce Cseries at CeBIT 2010 March 2-6
The debut issue of the official Nokia Conversations newsletter hinted the next series of Nokia announcements will have the letter C. Placed on the right sidebar of the newsletter are the clues C you at CeBIT, C BIT, and C you there. These could be about the Nokia C3, C5, or C6 we’ve been hearing about lately.
Angry Birds Level Pack 1 Back in Ovi Store for Nokia N900 (Update: taken out again)
There’s paid software in the Ovi Store for the Nokia N900 again! Angry Birds Level Pack 1 was there initially, but was pulled immediately when some users found a way to bypass the payment gateway and downloaded it for free. Now that it’s back, I suggest buying it because it’s worth the $2.99 price tag.
