The three main reasons I prefer Windows Phone over MeeGo (Nokia N9) and Symbian are apps, apps, and apps. I keep finding new things to install on the Nokia Lumia 800 that look great and work well. It seems I just passed a milestone. Something happens when you reach 45 items in the app list. Take look.
Seesmic for Windows Phone was just updated to support Mango and I’m showing it off on the Nokia Lumia 800. Seesmic lets you manage multiple Twitter accounts, your Facebook account, your Salesforce Chatter account and organize all your accounts, searches, trending topics and lists in your customizable “spaces” dashboard.
I’m currently gathering my thoughts for the upcoming review of the Nokia N9, but I wanted to show you a cool app right away. It’s called ScreenshotMee. It lets you take screenshots on the Nokia N9 by just putting your hand over the phone. It’s free at the Ovi Store (yea.. it’s still called Ovi).
Back in May, we told you that Nokia was removing the word “Ovi” by the end of 2012. If you go to the Ovi Store website right now, you may notice the Ovi logo was just replaced with Nokia’s logo. The site title was also renamed, “Nokia Store.” We’re not sure when the rebranding will be complete, but I sure like hearing Nokia Store better than Ovi Store.
Nokia’s 2011 Calling All Innovators competition has ended and the winners have been announced. Over 800 entries were received from developers. Part of the judging criteria included the number of downloads and sales for each entry. Here’s the list of the winning apps and games. You might see something that you’ll like.
Nokia partners up with Polar Mobile to launch over 300 mobile apps for major media brands over the next 12 months. The apps will be made available to Nokia devices running Symbian, MeeGo, and Windows Phone. The first 50 will be available for Symbian through the Nokia Ovi Store in the next two months.
Nokia India and the Gurgaon Traffic Police have partnered up to launch a traffic management project called 3rdEYE in the city. A software called Tselina will be integrated with Nokia E5 devices to capture photo evidence of traffic violations in Gurgaon. Up to 300 traffic police personnel stationed at different locations in the city will be equipped with the Nokia E5.
Here’s a Facebook application for Symbian that you might want to try. It’s called fMobi and the version shown in this video is 1.2.2b. It’s currently beta for Symbian and is coming soon to the Nokia N9 (MeeGo). I’m showing it here on a Nokia N8. Check it out.
The Foursquare application 4squick for Symbian was updated earlier today to 0.715. The major changes include faster startup time, public/private check-in, share to Facebook or Twitter, leaderboard, user profiles, and bug fixes. I made a video to show the new features. Check it out!
