The Nokia Asha 501 will start selling this week in Thailand and Pakistan, with availability in India soon to follow. It’s first of a new generation of Nokia smartphones to run on the new Asha Platform. It is available for 99 USD before taxes and local subsidies.
Nokia just unveiled the new Asha Touch family of devices, taking the touchscreen experience to very low price points. It has a 2-megapixel camera, music player, FM radio, Nokia Browser, and Bluetooth connectivity, and can handle memory cards up to 32GB.
Here’s a first look at the Nokia Asha 302 from Mobile World Congress. Nokia announced on Wednesday they have sold the 1.5 billionth Series 40 phone. It was purchased by 21-year old Mayara Rodrigues in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The phone was a Nokia Asha 303.
A report from CyberMedia Research claims 30.7 percent of the 166 million phones sold in India during the first eleven months of 2011 came from Nokia. Samsung followed with 14.9 percent and Micromax with 5 percent. Nokia was the leader in both the feature and smartphone segments.

We took a look at the Nokia Asha 303 at Nokia World. It has a 2.6″ capacitive touch screen with a QWERTY keypad. The Nokia Asha 303 is built with Internet and social networks ease in mind. There’s a 1Ghz engine, 3G and WLAN. It will also be affordable.
