Nokia Panorama on its Way to Nokia Lumia 800

Nokia’s imaging head, Damian Dinning, just confirmed on Twitter that a built-in panorama mode for the camera on Nokia Lumia 800 is on its way. While you wait for Nokia to release the official app, you can grab a third-party app right now for Windows Phone called Pano.

Nokia 803 Leaked in User Manual

Pocketnow received the user manual for the Nokia 803 which includes an illustration of the device. They think it could be the next imaging flagship from Nokia which upgrades the Nokia N8. My eyes are telling me the screen is about 3.2 inches. Photo after the jump.

Nokia Sues Shanghai Firm on Lens Cover Patent

Nokia is suing Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology Co Ltd, one of China’s top cellphone design companies, for infringing its patented method of covering the lens when the phone is not in use. Nokia wants the Shanghai company to stop producing and selling the offending products. Nokia also demands 10 million yuan (US $1.55 million) as compensation.

HTC Tweets Sensation Camera is Faster Than Nokia N9

Remember when Nokia posted they have the fastest camera on any phone? HTC doesn’t agree. They tweeted last Saturday the HTC Sensation’s camera is the quickest draw. The tweet links to a video of the device capturing a photo in about 2.2 seconds (versus 2.6 on the Nokia N9). The article even claims of getting results faster than 2 seconds.

Symbian UI Overhaul & Phones with Optical Zoom Expected Next Year

Senior Manager Gunther Kottzieper shared some of Nokia’s plans for 2011 at the International Mobile Internet Conference in Beijing on Tuesday. According to Kottzieper, first quarter of 2011 will include more than 50 enhancements to Symbian, including an updated browser with a more intuitive user interface. The second and third quarter will bring “a new look and feel for the UI. The fourth quarter will introduce more powerful CPU and graphics processors and last but not least, a “true zoom camera.”

Caltech Accuses Nokia & Others of Infringing Camera Patents

The California Institute of Technology is suing Nokia, LG Electronics, Pantech, and others for infringing on nine patents related to camera technology, according to Businessweek. The California-based research university filed their complaint today in federal court in Los Angeles and seeks unspecified damages. None of the companies involved provided any official response yet.

Nokia Conversations published a post yesterday explaining the Full Focus camera technology in their new devices such as the Nokia C6, C7, and E7. They even go on to argue that Full Focus cameras are in fact more complex than autofocus cameras. I must confess that I’m not a fan of this feature. I wonder how you feel about this.

Nokia Responds to hyperX’s Nokia N8 Camera Hack

Last month, hyperX released a hack for the camera on the Nokia N8 that enabled 30 frames per second with continuous autofocus for video and 100% JPEG compression for photos.
