Nokia N82 Impressions From N73 User

I received a loan of the Nokia N82 from S60 Ambassadors program three weeks ago, and have been playing with it every since. Coming from the Nokia N73 that I currently use, this phone was definitely an upgrade. Read my impressions on music, camera, and web browsing on the Nokia N82.

Music

My first priority after installing the SIM, was to set off on a walk, taking particular attention to the quality of sound, as this device has been marketed with exceptional media qualities. The sound is above par, and after comparing the same song on the iPhone, I would pick the Nokia N82 hands down. After downloading a selection of my music on the N82, I have chosen this device over everything I own to play music when mobile.

5MP Camera

The next thing I concentrated on was the camera. Since I am a photographer in training, I have yearned for a phone that has better quality than the greenish hue we all remember from the Paris Hilton video’s. A simple point and shoot is all I have wanted, and this is what I have and more with the specifications being a Carl Zeiss 5 megapixels with xenon flash. What do all those words mean? It means for those moments my child is being awesome and I need to capture the moment quickly, the Nokia N82 comes to the rescue, rendering a nearly perfect picture with proper color and not being distorted like so many camera phones on the market.

Browsing the Web

The one thing I have not absolutely been smitten with is the native browser and so I chose to download Opera Mini instead. This has rendered my mobile browsing needs sufficiently for me, and at speeds that don’t make a turtle look fast.

Overall

Overall, the learning curve from a Nokia N73 to a Nokia N82 has been relatively fast and painless. This is a product that has even impressed my non-techie friends. I love to use this phone to show off all the qualities of a good phone can for a person.

The Nokia Blog reached its 100,000th unique visitor last night since opening of late October 2006. I would like to thank all my visitors and would like this opportunity to ask how you heard or stumbled upon here. I encourage especially the lurkers (readers that do not comment) to introduce themselves and other bloggers to leave a link and description to your own blogs.

I’ll guess where you are from according to my stats. The majority of you come from searching on Google, more specifically about either the Nokia N73 or the Nokia N95 (what… no love for the Nokia N93?). The highest percentage of visitors are from the UK, with the US and Germany following closely. So.. who are you?

Following a 17 Year Old Nokia Promoter

Read what’s on the mind of Caiweii, a 17 year old Nokia promoter, Caiweii. I found her blog while looking for some blogworthy articles. I’m not sure exactly where she is located, but she sometimes write about what’s going on at work. I’ve combined all her entries that mentioned Nokia including the job interview. Check it out.Note: It’s a personal blog so be prepared for lots of slangs and misspellings. She thinks the Nokia N95 is too complicated, but likes the design of the Nokia E65.

Dec. 30, 2006 Went for job interview yesterday with Mulin. Oh ya, btw the beautician one said we were TOO young. Ass. Anyway this job is working for Nokia~ Not bad lehs overall.I got that job but Mulin didn’t get in. =”( I think she should get in rather than the other 2 girls. I agar agar know all the prices there but still, can’t really recognize how those 6020 or what 6070 look like. Oh some prices dropped yesterday. Like N73 became $718. N73 music edition is $778. We have to know all the features and functions of each and every phones As you know, there’s SO many different kinds of Nokia phones out there and MORE are coming out. People make comparison over the phones and we must always be ready to tell the difference between them and at the same time, promote. Things like the talk time or standby time of the phone, does the phone support whatever stuffs etc..Jan. 31, 2007 Went for Nokia training again at Marriott Hotel early in the morning. This time about Nokia N95. Woots. It’s a super super good phone but, more complicated. If you are thinking of buying one N95, think again, do you need all the functions in it?Feb. 8, 2007 Yesterday time past very slowly…………. till 4pm then POOF!! Off to Marriott hotel for training. Omg……….. business phone… But the design is nice! Slim and sophisticated design.. Nokia E65 . With 4 new dedicated keys designed in the keypads. Comes with Red/Silver or Black/Silver.Feb. 12, 2007 I think I’m quitting soon? End of the month? Not sure.Changing from full-time to part-time. Very xing ku leh……………………………….. =’(( Working ain’t fun at all. ARgH!!!! It will be fun if my sistas or biaomei is working with me!

Nokia Price Checks Now Available

The Nokia blog just added a new Nokia price check section. Readers who read the blog can now also check the lowest prices of the latest Nokia phones like the Nokia N93, Nokia N73, Nokia N91, etc. The prices are sorted from the lowest to highest Buy It Now prices taken from eBay. From experience, eBay usually have the lowest prices because of the massive amount of sellers competing with each other.

The Nokia blog’s Price Check section is automatically updated whenever a seller comes with a lower price. The list also goes though a filter to make sure the search results show the correct phone and not its accessories, like faceplates or leather covers. Don’t you hate going through a long list of search results and not able to find what you want? Save a few clicks and $$$ with the new Price Check section.

How To: Update Nokia N73 Firmware to Internet Edition

The Nokia N73 Internet Edition Firmware 3.0638.0.0.43 update is now available. The Nokia N73 Internet Edition was only announced in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but anyone with the N73 can change their firmware to take advantage of the new firmware’s features by tricking Nokia Software Update. How is the Internet Edition different from the recently released Music Edition? Find out now as well as the instructions on how to update your Nokia N73 firmware.

The Nokia N73 Internet Edition contains all of the features of the Music Edition, but the multimedia key in the Music Edition goes straight to the music player. The Internet Edition retains the function of the original multimedia key where you can configure your own shortcuts to applications. They also included Windows Live Messenger and a few shortcuts to popular websites in the Internet folder. Otherwise, same as the Music Edition.

Updating to the Internet Edition is similar to the guide I wrote earlier on updating to Nokia N73 Music Edition.

Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.

Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon “Phone info”
Click on “Scan”
UPDATE Change the product code to
0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)
0539364 (Taiwan’s language pack: English + Traditional Chinese)
0539295 (Arabic, French, English) (People say it is ME edition)
0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, English) (People say it is ME edition)
Mark the case “Enable”.
Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be the Nokia N73 Internet Edition!

How To: Update Original Nokia N73 Firmware to Music Edition

If you already own the Nokia N73, you can update the firmware to the Music Edition by using the Nokia Software Update with a little trick. Retailers are just receiving the Nokia N73 Music Edition as this how-to is published, but you do not have to buy the new Nokia N73 Music Edition to take advantage of the new features. Read on to find out how to update the firmware.

Before you decide to update your Nokia N73 to the Music Edition, know that this may void your warranty and you run the risk of breaking your phone, like Darla. Is it worth taking the risk? Find out first what to expect in the new Nokia N73 Music Edition (screenshots by mukushu):

1. Idle Screen with new clock.
2. New Main Menu Music Icon.

3. New Default Themes.
4. New Music Player with Album Art.

5. Music Player audio settings (Stereo widening is super cool!!!)
6. Music Player Visualization – Oscilloscope

7. Music Player Visualization – Spectrum
8. Firmware Version: 3.0638.0.0.30

Now that you’ve seen how the Nokia N73 Music Edition differs from the standard Nokia N73, do you still want to do it? If so, this is how to update the firmware:

Download Nokia N73 Firmware Update

The latest update to the Nokia N73 firmware is now available at the Nokia Software Update page. I recommend you not to touch your phone while it is updating or else you will kill the Nokia N73. That is exactly what happened to mbootag from HOFO.

started updating my N73 with NSU and like a idiot went to move my phone and the crappy plug for the usb cable lost connection for a second and killed my phone.

Nokia N73 is Used By One of the Heroes on NBC

The time bender, Hiro Nakamura, from NBC’s prime time show Heroes, uses the Nokia N73 phone to try save New York City from a nuclear explosion. It is also one of my favorite shows right now. Thanks Qwest905 for posting this on HOFO.

I wonder if the Nokia marketing team is behind this, or if it’s just the actor’s own phone. Nevertheless, you can watch the show on Mondays 9PM Eastern on NBC.

How To Replace Nokia N73 Faceplate Cover

Now that more eBay sellers have Nokia N73 faceplates and covers available, curious Nokia N73 users can now change the color of their phone. Johnh_21 from HOFO recently tried it and shows off the successful result. Here’s how he did it.

There are 2 excellent tutorials which can be found here by digisnacks and here by elcapitan. They complement each other perfectly. Here it is in combined and summarized version.

Tools Needed: 2 credit cards and T6 Screwdriver.

1. Take front faceplate off by inserting credit card 1 between housing and silver key. As you pull up, take credit card 2 and slide it on the side of the phone prying the clips off.

2. Unscrew these 6 screws at the edges with the T6 screwdriver and release the 4 clips surrounding the LCD screen.

3. Slip the little black frame off of the LCD screen, and lift the screen. You should now see a screw. Removing this screw removes the back cover.

4. That’s it! Put your new faceplate or housing in and figure out how to put things back by following the directions here in reverse order.

Papyrus Now Available to S60v3 Users

SBSH releases Papyrus 1.2 which now supports Symbian 3rd edition devices, such as the Nokia E61, N80, N91/92/93. For those who find the S60 3rd Edition Calendar restricting, now they can use a more fully-featured third party alternative. Tspierings at the AAS forums already downloaded it for his Nokia N73 and reports a few problems. He expects a newer version in a few days.

The good news: it is a fantastic calendar application and far better than Aqua Calendar which I also used on my N73. Papyrus is very intuitive.The bad news: serious issues and currently unusable. It appears that I cannot leave the application. I tried everything. EXIT does not work. The worst thing about this is that it does not store the settings and registration key. So after I rebootet my N73, the registration key had to be entered again and all settings were back at default.
