<p>The <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/tag/n96/" title="N96 | The Nokia Blog">Nokia N96</a> is not even out yet, but several people are already excited about a rumored Nokia N85 scheduled for summer 2009. Combining info from different sources, we get an almost clear idea of what it may look like.</p>
<p><span id="more-398"></span></p>
<p>Nokia N85 is not about photo. It is all about video experience. It comes with 5 megapixel camera. It is smaller than the Nokia N96, but with WQVGA resolution (4??x240 pixels resolution). The most interesting claim is that it looks like a <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/tag/n93/" title="N93 | The Nokia Blog">Nokia N93</a> packed into a different form factor. <em>Sources: Teo from <a href="http://www.symbian-freak.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20004&amp;start=30&amp;postdays=0&amp;postorder=asc&amp;highlight=" title="www.symbian-freak.com :: View topic - N85 becoming a reality?">Symbian-Freak</a>, Eldar from <a href="http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?t=69892" title="Nokia announcements (Summary in the first post) - Mobile-Review.com Forums">Mobile-Review</a>, David from <a href="http://www.electronicpulp.net/2008/05/nokias-nseries-roadmap-for-2008-2009.html" title="Electronic Pulp: Nokia's Nseries roadmap for 2008-2009 reveals plans for iPod+iTunes competitor, new Nseries phones, two iPhone killers">Electronic Pulp</a>.</em></p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://img.skitch.com/20080602-guymhbyasmh6nah1bxth2c7tu.jpg" alt="Nokia n85"/></p>
<p>The photo above was <a href="http://www.unwiredview.com/2007/12/03/new-nokia-6-or-8-megapixel-imaging-slider-in-the-works/" title="Nokia's patent application shows 8 megapixel N-series slider? - Engadget">found in Nokia&#8217;s patent</a> applications last December. Is that the Nokia N85? That form factor looks really interesting! A lot more exciting the Nokia N96.</p>

	<em>No more transforming flip phones like the Nokia N93i?</em></p>
<p>I have not owned any other phone that received more attention than the Nokia N93. It is unusual, but that&#8217;s what made it cool. It is thick and heavy though compared to the newer <a href="http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=home" title="Nokia Nseries">Nseries</a> phones. I&#8217;m a little disappointed hearing about this, but sliders like the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/tag/n96/" title="N96 | The Nokia Blog">Nokia N96</a> and candybars like the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/tag/n78/" title="N78 | The Nokia Blog">Nokia N78</a> seem more practical.</p>
<p>What do you think? Did you like the Nokia N93&#8217;s form factor?</p>

<p>While it&#8217;s not exactly what was used in Bourne Ultimatum, the same idea exists in using PocketCaster. It lets you broadcast live video from your phone. However, you are going to need a fast connection like WiFi or 3G to be able to transmit the videos.</p>

<p>For the third episode of MarkTV, I attached my <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a> to the sunroof and recorded my drive on Grand Central Parkway. It&#8217;s been a while since the <a title="MarkTV Episode 1: Video Test of Nokia N95" href="http://thenokiablog.com/2007/04/06/nokia-n95-video-test-mark-tv-episode-1/">last</a> <a title="MarkTV episodes" href="http://thenokiablog.com/category/marktv/">episodes</a>, so to reintroduce you to the show, MarkTV shows you what I can do with my Nokia phones. Try doing this with your iPhone&#8230; oops, the <a href="http://apple.com/iphone/">iPhone</a> can&#8217;t even do videos! Check out the blooper at the end.<span id="more-205"></span></p>
<p class="center"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8niDhxg2na4"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8niDhxg2na4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></p>
<p class="center"><em>You can also <a title="MarkTV Episode 3: Riding with the Nokia N95" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/Fonegrabber-MarkTVEp3RidingWithTheNokiaN95785.mov">view this video</a> in DVD-like quality.</em></p>
<p>Materials used: GPS mount and Nokia N95. That&#8217;s it. Instead of mounting to my dashboard, I used the glass surface of my sunroof and pointed the camera of the Nokia N95 towards the front. I got the idea of doing this from watching YouTube user <a title="Chipko Using the Nokia N93 Showing His Drive on the Nokia N93" href="http://youtube.com/user/chipko">chipko&#8217;s</a> videos using his <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> showing his drive. Pretty cool!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve made several videos already, but I am calling this episode 3 because I want to continue with this format and style from now on. To check all my created videos, just check the &#8220;<a title="MarkTV episodes" href="http://thenokiablog.com/category/marktv/">MarkTV</a>&#8221; category on my blog. They can also be seen in my <a title="YouTube x theNokiablog.com" href="http://youtube.com/thenokiablog">YouTube</a> and <a title="Blip.TV x thenokiablog.com" href="http://fonegrabber.blip.tv">Blip.TV</a> accounts.</p>
<p>P.S. About the iPhone comment&#8230; I don&#8217;t hate it. I actually loved it after playing with one yesterday. No way in hell it will replace my <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a>, though.</p>

<p class="center"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5tUFblw3wi0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5tUFblw3wi0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></p>
<p class="center"><em>You can also view my video in <a title="Video in DVD quality" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/Fonegrabber-CanTheNokiaN95StandOnItsOwn734.mov">DVD-quality</a> or download and view directly on your Nseries phone with the <a title="Video in mobile quality" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/Fonegrabber-CanTheNokiaN95StandOnItsOwn709.mp4">mobile version</a>.</em></p>
<p>This video was really to practice video-editing, playing with <a href="http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/">Final Cut</a>. I hope you didn&#8217;t think it was too geeky doing this test (but I know that&#8217;s already too late!).</p>

<p>I will review the <a title="Nokia DT-22 Universal Tripod" href="http://europe.nokia.com/accessorieslink?s=DT-22">Nokia Universal Tripod DT-22</a>. Now that our phones can handle exceptional pictures and video, it is almost a necessity to have something that will keep our phone steady to capture precious or random moments. Others have used <a title="DIY Tripod for Nokia N93" href="http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/How_to_make_your_own_Blue_Peter_Nokia_N93_tripod_stand.php">homemade do-it-yourself tripods</a>, but the DT-22 makes sure your expensive cameraphone is officially secure in place (and look better). <span id="more-188"></span></p>
<p><strong>Note:</strong> <em>All the pictures below are taken with the <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a> and the <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a>.</em></p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/507966996/" title="Nokia DT-22 Universal Tripod"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/217/507966996_076995b048_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="05212007081.jpg" /></a><br />
<em>Nokia DT-22 packaging</em></p>
<p>The Nokia DT-22 Universal Tripod consists of two parts: the legs and the adapter. Together, they make a portable tripod easy to carry around. If you already own bigger tripod, the adapter can be attached for more flexibility.</p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/507984659/" title="Nokia DT-22 Universal Tripod"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/189/507984659_da60879b79_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Image002.jpg" /></a><br />
<em>Nokia N95 on a bigger tripod with the DT-22 adapter.</em></p>
<p>The adjustable legs let you choose the perfect height. It is also great for adjusting on uneven surfaces. The legs also have a twisting lock and a pop-out to make sure the legs don&#8217;t fall unexpectedly. For added stability, the bottom of the legs consist of rubber so the tripod doesn&#8217;t slide on slippery surface.</p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/507986693/" title="Nokia DT-22 Universal Tripod"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/222/507986693_2635fef5a8_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Image003.jpg" /></a><br />

<em>Nokia DT-22 Tripod on slippery surface</em></p>
<p>The adjustable adapter ensures compatibility with several devices. When I first heard about the DT-22, I thought it was only made for the <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a>. From a previous post, I tried putting my Nokia N95 on and found out it <a title="The Nokia N95 Fits on the Nokia Tripod DT-22" href="http://thenokiablog.com/2007/04/05/the-nokia-n95-fits-on-the-nokia-tripod-dt-22/">fits just fine</a>. On the bottom of the packaging it clearly says, &#8220;For the N95. N93, N80, N73, N72, N70, and other compatible devices.&#8221;</p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/507956348/" title="Nokia DT-22 Tripod"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/195/507956348_1c7e4608f1_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="05212007077.jpg" /></a><br />

<em>My brother&#8217;s Canon Powershot camera fit fine.</em>
</p>
<p>The Nokia DT-22 tripod is very useful! Don&#8217;t you hate it when you want to take a picture of your friends, but one will always be missing because someone has to take the picture? Using a tripod for video blogging is also great. Just lay the tripod on your desk and you are ready to be the next <a title="lonelygirl15" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/13/technology/13lonely.html?ex=1315800000&#038;en=7eae0c5f86be8939&#038;ei=5090">LonelyGirl15</a>!</p>
<p>It is hard to find because not many sellers have it in stock. If you take a lot of pictures and videos on your <a title="Nseries" href="http://nseries.com">Nokia Nseries</a> phone, make sure to buy one now before they are totally gone.</p>

I did that with <a title="Final Cut Studio" href="http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/">Final Cut Pro</a>&#8230; I&#8217;m slowly learning more about editing video!</p>

<p>I just put my <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/" title="Nokia N93 lowest Price check">Nokia N93</a> up on eBay. This post will be proof to potential buyers on that I am the owner of <a href="http://tinyurl.com/yrf59r" title="The Nokia Blog Nokia N93 on Ebay">this eBay listing</a>. I also used the Nokia tripod DT-22 to take all of the pictures in macro mode. Any photographers know that a steady hand is not enough for taking good pictures of objects within a few centimeters. Not interested in the auction? Check the pictures.<span id="more-176"></span></p>

<p><strong>Tip:</strong> If you are taking close-up pictures for eBay using your <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a> phone, select macro mode in the camera with the shutter set to 10 seconds and place it securely on a tripod or other placeholders. This will ensure sharp pictures because there is no possibility of camera shake.</p>

<p>I will show you how you can convert your favorite movies and TV episodes from your computer to watch right on the <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95&#8217;s</a> default movie player. The <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a> supports H.264 playback. <a title="Apple H264" href="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/h264/">H.264</a> in simple words: high quality videos at small file sizes. Enough techno blabber! Find out how right now!<span id="more-175"></span></p>
<p><strong>UPDATE</strong>: Nokia just released <a title="Nokia Video Manager" href="http://www.nokia.com/A4370009">Nokia Video Manager</a> for Windows. Check it out.</p>
<p>UPDATE 2: I found an easier and better way using VisualHub. Read <a title="How To: Easy and Best Video Quality Conversion Using VisualHub on" href="http://thenokiablog.com/2007/12/22/how-to-easy-and-best-video-quality-conversion-using-visualhub-on-mac/">How To: Easy and Best Video Quality Conversion Using VisualHub on Mac</a></p>
<p>There seems to be a lot of new Nokia N95 owners, so this guide comes in perfect timing. It will make third-party programs like <a title="SmartMovie" href="http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=smartmovie">SmartMovie</a> obsolete. This is also quick and pretty simple. Here we go:</p>
<p class="download">Download the latest <a title="Quicktime" href="http://apple.com/quicktime/">Quicktime</a>.</p>
<p>Open the movie or TV episode in <a title="Quicktime" href="http://apple.com/quicktime">Quicktime</a>. If the file does not play on your computer, it means you are missing a codec or component. For the purpose of this guide, I will not get into that part of the topic.</p>
<p>Go to File -> Export. Select &#8220;Movie to MPEG-4&#8243; then click Options. Copy the settings in the screenshot below.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/6228/screenshotkr3.png" alt="Thanks ImageShack!" /></p>
<p>Then click Video Options.. and copy the settings in the screenshot below.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/3416/screenshot2jk7.png" alt="Thanks ImageShack!" /></p>
<p>That&#8217;s it! Just hit OK and save. Depending on your computer and the size of the file, it may take some time. For my sample, I converted a 350MB TV episode to 240MB. Transfer it to your &#8220;My Movies&#8221; folder in your memory card when it finishes.</p>
<p><strong>Summary of video settings:</strong><br />
File Format: MP4<br />
Video Format H.264<br />
Data Rate: 700 kbits/sec<br />
Optimized for: Download<br />
Image Size: 320 x 240 QVGA<br />
Turn On: Aspect Ratio using Letterbox<br />
Key Frame: Automatic<br />
Restrict Profile(s) to: Main AND Baseline<br />
Encoding Mode: Best Quality (Multi-pass)</p>
<p>You can play around with the settings yourself, but these are the settings for the best quality that the Nokia N95 can playback for you. I also tested these settings in my <a title="Nokia N93" Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> and it also worked fine.</p>

			</a>
		</div>
<p>I will show you how you can optimize videos from the <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a>, <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a>, and <a title="Nokia N93i Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93i/">Nokia N93i</a> for <a title="Videoblogging definition" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlog">videoblogging</a>. These Nokia phones are also camcorders that shoot DVD-like quality. That means high quality video-recording that fits in your pocket. However, if you are new to videoblogging, you will find out that even just 6 minutes of video from your <a title="Nseries" href="http://nseries.com">Nseries</a> phone can go more than 100MB of space, the max limit in popular video sharing sites, <a title="Youtube" href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> and <a title="Blip TV" href="http://blip.tv">blip.TV</a>.<span id="more-169"></span></p>
<p>Other bloggers have recommended <a title="How to Shoot Videos with Nokia N93" href="http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/videotips.htm">how to shoot videos</a> with your Nseries phones, but I&#8217;ll share what you can do AFTER for sharing your videos with friends, family, or whoever you want on the web.</p>
<p>I can be technical and explain how amazing <a title="Apple H264 Encoding" href="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/h264/">H.264 encoding</a> is and how it helps increase the quality of your videos while decreasing the file size, but I&#8217;ll stick to what&#8217;s more important: the settings. Lowering your file size will make it faster to upload your videos to <a title="Youtube" href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> or <a title="Blip TV" href="http://blip.tv">blip.TV</a> and enable you to fit more footage.</p>
<p>After editing your movie (I&#8217;ll write a more detailed HOW TO: Make movies with Your Nokia Nseries guide later on), choose export in whatever movie editing software you have and select these settings in the software used:</p>
<h4>The Quick Way</h4>
<p>Export: Movie to Quicktime Movie<br />
Use: LAN/Intranet</p>
<h4>&#8230;or the Advanced Way</h4>
<p>Save the original movie file or your movie from iMovie, <a title="Final Cut Studio" href="http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/">Final Cut</a>, or your preferred software with these settings:</p>
<ul>
<li>Format: Quicktime</li>
<li>Compression Type/Codec: H.264</li>
<li>Frame Rate: 29.97 fps</li>
<li>Size: 640 width x 480 height</li>
<li>Key Frames: Every 150 Frames</li>
<li>Frame Reordering: Yes</li>
<li>Multi-Pass: Yes</li>
<li>Data rate: 1405 kbits/sec </li>
<li>Optimized for: Streaming</li>
<li>Audio Format: AAC</li>
<li>Audio Sample Rate: 48.000 kHz</li>
<li>Audio Channels: Stereo (Mono for the Nokia N95)</li>
<li>Audio Bit rate: 128 kbps</li>
</ul>
<p>Using the settings above, an original 5 and a half minute video from the Nokia N93 with a file size of 117MB was converted to only 65.7MB, but I&#8217;ll still show you that the video also improved. Look at the comparisons below.</p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/444875171/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/224/444875171_003de3ccf2_t.jpg"  alt="Encoded to H264" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/444869294/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/208/444869294_44965cda42_t.jpg"  alt="Original Video File" /></a><br />
<em>The H264 on the left has less noise than the original on the right</em></p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/444902427/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/200/444902427_e1ac34a375.jpg" width="350" height="301" alt="Original video info" /></a><br />
<em>Original File Info shows a larger file</em></p>
<p class="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/444896490/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/193/444896490_8033ab2a89_o.png" width="350" height="288" alt="h264 video info" /></a><br />
<em>Encoded H.264 video info shows file size is cut in half</em></p>
<p>Large file size is probably the most common concern uploading to the web, but I just showed you how you can optimize your videos so that you can decrease the file size, fit more footage, and even improve the quality of your videos!</p>
<p>If you would like to share videos longer than 10 minutes it is recommended to decrease the resolution of the video. You should not have videos longer than 10 minutes though because the regular audience will not have the patience to sit and watch the whole thing. As a general guideline for <a title="Apple H264 Encoding" href="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/h264.html">H264 encoding</a>, it is recommended:</p>
<ul>
<li>For a frame size of 640 x 480, choose a data rate of 1,500 Kbps.</li>
<li>For a frame size of 320 x 240, choose a data rate of 700 Kbps.</li>
</ul>
<p>With my current <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N93</a> capable of DVD-quality video, I like to keep <a title="My Videos" href="http://thenokiablog.com/category/my-video/">my videos</a> at the original resolution of 640&#215;480 so my readers can see the phone&#8217;s capabilities.</p>
<p>I do not have the <a title="Nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95</a>, but I&#8217;m sure the file size will even be lower because it only records in Mono audio: one channel audio. <strong>I would love to test one out for encoding videos.</strong></p>

<p>You can see the Nokia 5300 appear at 0:40, 1:40, and 2:04. It&#8217;s funny that some people commented that it looks like a 4 minute advertisement for Nokia.</p>

<p>For this video test, both videos are unedited. I only cut out what happened afterwards (I lost again). I kept all original encodings the same.<br />

<p>You can tell that the video on the Nokia N93 is a LOT better but we all already knew that. What&#8217;s the purpose of this test? The videos were taken in a real life situation. Phones are so much more convenient to carry than bulky digital camcorders. If we see something we like to share, all we have to do is flip out our phones. Both were capable enough to do that, but the <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> comes out as the winner. It&#8217;s just too bad that you see me get KO&#8217;d.</p>

<p>The Nokia N95 is just around the corner and after reading a few articles, there are a few things that make me think twice before doing an upgrade. I&#8217;ll list down what&#8217;s important to me and conclude whether or not it is recommended for other N93 owners with similar interests upgrade to the Nokia N95.<span id="more-153"></span></p>
<p>Thanks to Paul Whitaker, I noticed that the <a title="Nokia N95 Mono Audio" href="http://www.myphonerocks.com/?p=323">Nokia N95 only supports mono</a> audio. While this is not a dealbreaker for me, going to the N95 from the N93, I will be losing the stereo recording. Since I upload most of my videos on YouTube, the audio are converted to mono anyway so other YouTube users will not be affected. However, watching the original videos on a computer with 2 speakers, or a TV, we lose audio depth. You can find out more about <a title="Stereo versus Mono" href="http://www.bcae1.com/stermono.htm">mono vs. stereo</a> by BCAE.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9159/n95gv8.png" alt="Nokia N95 Video" /><br />

<em>Nokia N93 with Stereo Audio</em></p>
<p>Sample <a title="Nokia N95 Photos" href="http://www.myphonerocks.com/?p=347">Nokia N95 photos</a> have been showing up with purple hue. They say that firmware updates will fix this, but after hearing the same thing about how Nokia will fix the noise on <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> pictures, I will not get my hopes up. Fortunately, the pictures can be <a title="Color Correction Nokia N95" href="http://web.mac.com/jamesburland/iWeb/thecreativelifeblog2/N95%27s%20Are%20From%20Mars%21.html">fixed </a>with <a title="Nokia N95 Color Correction" href="http://www.ringnokia.com/2007/02/colors_are_off_.html">software</a> on our computers.</p>

<em>Original Nokia N95 Photo</em></p>
<p>Nokia N95 has GPS&#8230; the Nokia N93 doesn&#8217;t. However, My-Symbian revealed in their <a title="Nokia N95 Review" href="http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/review_n95.php">Nokia N95 review</a> that the built-in GPS receiver will initially only work with the included Nokia Maps. This is disappointing to me because I think <a title="TomTom Navigation" href="http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=286&#038;Category=2&#038;Lid=4">TomTom</a> is better, faster, and more usable than Nokia Maps.</p>
<blockquote><p>Unfortunately, no other existing S60 3rd Edition GPS software is able to take advantage of the built-in receiver because all of them are &#8216;hardcoded&#8217; to communicate with Bluetooth GPS devices via the Serial Port Profile.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Conclusion.</strong> So should I still upgrade to the Nokia N95? While the 3 factors above mention a few negative things, they are not that bad. Mono and Stereo are hardly noticeable through basic speakers, picture colors can be easily fixed, and I can stick with Nokia Maps until TomTom ports their software to use the GPS receiver on the Nokia N95. Nevertheless, I will be checking <a title="Fonegrabber" href="http://fonegrabber.com">Fonegrabber</a> or the <a title="nokia N95 Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n95/">Nokia N95 Price Check</a> page for a trusted seller to have it in stock and still be one of the first few to buy it.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;m not the only Nokia N93 user feeling this way. Do you have a Nokia N93 and plan to upgrade to the Nokia N95? Let me know the reasons why or why you won&#8217;t upgrade.</p>

<p>Nokia has given eight snowboarders the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> to help them chase the perfect powder day – the type of day that happens once a year that keeps you energized on your mission to chase the storm. They launched the website, <a title="The Storm Chasers" href="http://www.thestormchasers.ca">The Storm Chasers</a>, to document their tour. They posted <a title="Nokia N93 Storm Chasers" href="http://www.thestormchasers.ca/wp/?p=53">some</a> <a title="Nokia N93 Storm Chasers" href="http://www.thestormchasers.ca/wp/?p=54">videos</a> <a title="Nokia N93 Storm Chasers" href="http://www.thestormchasers.ca/wp/?p=57">up</a> already with their phones.<span id="more-151"></span></p>
<p><img class="alignleft" src="http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/7655/stormchasingrw6.png" alt="Thanks ImageShack!" /><a href="http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1349/82558567sk3.gif"><img class="alignright" src="http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1349/82558567sk3.th.gif" alt="Thanks ImageShack!" /></a> I asked one of the chasers, Max Jenke, some questions. He told me about how the partnership with Nokia started. A few years ago <a title="Endeavor Snowboard Designs" href="http://www.endeavorsnowboards.com/">Endeavor Snowboards</a> produced some limited edition Nokia N Gage snowboards for the team. He says,</p>
<blockquote><p>the industry marketing manager wanted to use a local company to help him make some promotional stuff. we had creative control on the project &#8211; they just wanted some great looking product. most of the guys in the company snowboard, so i think they were really stoked</p></blockquote>
<p>I know it&#8217;s hard to capture footage while snowboarding, but with the Nokia N93, it makes it easier because of its size. I tried taking a <a title="Nokia N93 Video Ski Trip" href="http://thenokiablog.com/2007/01/13/video-annual-ski-trip-iii-at-the-poconos/">video of my ski trip</a> last month, but I took it slow. The team on the other hand are not afraid to use the phones to the limit.</p>
<blockquote><p>our guys definitely put them to the test. but these have definitely held up more than the N90s that we had last year</p></blockquote>
<p>Max says that the team are expecting to get the <a title="Nokia N93i Lowest Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93i/">Nokia N93i</a> and the Nokia N95 very soon. I can&#8217;t wait to see them use it action.</p>

<p>Nokia announced this morning in a <a href="http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1103306" title="Nokia Maps and Smart2Go Press Release">press release</a> and a <a href="http://www.rawcoms.com/content/corporate/nokia/070208/index.html" title="smart2go webcast">webcast</a> the <a href="http://www.smart2go.com" titlt="smart2go">Smart2Go</a> application which is also known as Nokia Maps for free download. It will be the pre-installed navigation software that will come with the most anticipated Nokia phone of the year, the Nokia N95, but can also be used by <del datetime="2007-02-16T21:35:34+00:00">other Nokia S60 devices</del> Nokia S60 3rd Ed. devices. It will also be available for a diversity of other operating systems such as Windows Mobile 5 and Linux, in the future.<span id="more-143"></span>While maps and routing is free, turn-by-turn navigation requires a subscription fee. How much is the navigation service? If you check the <a href="http://www.nokia.com/NOKIA_COM_1/Press/Press_Events/Nokia_Press_Conference,_Live_Webcast/smart2go_FINAL.pdf" title="smart2go presentation slides">presentation slides</a>, the sample prices for a navigation service in Germany is:
<ul>
<li>1 week: 6,49 Euro</li>
<li>1 month 7,99 Euro</li>
<li>1 year 59,99 Euro</li>
<li>3 years 69,99 Euro</li>
</ul>
<p><img src="http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4430/smart2goxf8.png" alt="Smart2Go" class="alignright" />Another cool tool is that while you can download maps directly to your phone, they also give the <a href="http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/maploader" title="Maploader">MapLoader</a> application for your PC (grrr&#8230; no Mac support!!!) so you can manage all the maps in your computer before installing into your phone.I went to the smart2go website to try to download for my <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/" title="Nokia N93 Lowest Price Check">Nokia N93</a> but it is still not available. I am excited to use this software because it as almost like a <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/index.php?s=n95+preview" title="Nokia N95 Previews">preview to using the Nokia N95</a>.</p>

		</div>
<p>I will review the <a title="vox" href="http://www.vox.com/">Vox</a> application in my Nokia N93. The Nokia N93i will be the first Nseries device to have the application built in, but existing Nseries phone owners can use Vox now by running a <a title="Nokia and Vox configuration" href="http://www.vox.com/services/kb/658">configuration file</a>. Vox members are able to upload videos and full size photos directly from the camera or Image Gallery application. However I can only think of one scenario when I&#8217;ll need to use this service.<span id="more-133"></span></p>
<p><img class="alignleft" src="http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/3477/voxkc7.png" alt="Vox" />I can cross out Vox for sharing pictures. I already have <a title="Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com">Flickr</a> embedded in my Gallery that allows me to upload pictures and quickly tag them. I also already uploaded a lot of pictures in <a title="Mackarus Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackarus/">my Flickr account</a> and do not need another image hosting company. If you have an Nseries phone like the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n70/">Nokia N70</a>, <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n80/">Nokia N80</a>, <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a>, and <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n73/">Nokia N73</a> and still do not have Flickr installed, read the how-to over <a title="Flickr and Nokia" href="http://www.flickr.com/nokia">here</a>.</p>
<p>For sharing videos, Vox becomes useful but falls just a little short. I quickly signed up for an account and tried uploading a short video clip from my ski trip. Surprisingly, once the upload finished from my phone, the video showed up in <a title="Mark Guim Vox Blog" href="http://markguim.vox.com/">my Vox blog</a> page right away! I&#8217;m so used to waiting for <a title=" YouTube" href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> to process my videos before it becomes available to the public.</p>
<p>Even though Vox does not let their users easily copy and paste the video files, it&#8217;s easy to grab the code by viewing the page&#8217;s html source. One of my video uploads on Vox can be seen below. It&#8217;s a clip from my <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> at <a title="Silver Spurs" href="http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&#038;lr=&#038;q=silver+spurs&#038;near=New+York,+NY&#038;radius=0.0&#038;latlng=40714167,-74006389,10265213655927608966&#038;dtab=2&#038;reviews=1&#038;oi=more_rev&#038;sa=X&#038;ei=VjytRariHZ3OqwK245DmDw">Silver Spurs </a>in New York City. Probably the biggest burger I&#8217;ve eaten in my life.</p>
<p class="center"><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="322" height="258" src="http://aka-static.vox.com/.shared:v20.9:vox:en_us/flash/VideoPlayer.swf" flashvars="mediaURL=http://a4.vox.com/6a00cd970a87c84cd500d10a7dd2dc8bfa-flv&amp;imageURL=http://a4.vox.com/6a00cd970a87c84cd500d10a7dd2dc8bfa-jpeg&amp;mediaWidth=320&amp;mediaHeight=240" /></p>
<h4>Conclusion</h4>
<p>Vox makes it a lot easier to upload videos directly from an <a title="Nseries Devices" href="http://www.nseries.com">Nseries</a> phone, but they need to broaden their audience to existing bloggers. I do not like the fact that Vox does not make an html code easily accessible to copy and paste to other pages. Other services like <a href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a> and <a title="blip.tv" href="http://blip.tv">Blip.TV</a> gives their users the code so they can easily embed the uploaded videos in their own blogs or in their MySpace profiles. I want to be able to quickly share the videos I uploaded in Vox here at <a title="The Nokia Blog" href="http://thenokiablog.com">the Nokia blog</a>.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3/youtubewn1.png" alt="Thanks ImageShack!" /></p>

<p>I took the <a title="Nokia N93 Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> to the mountains for some video. In the last three years my friends and I have gone skiing, we had digital cameras to take pictures. This year, I had my <a title="Nokia N93 Price Check" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a> to capture movies that pictures cannot fully show. I did not want to lose or break the phone, so I only took it out at the easier slopes. I managed to get a few action shots&#8230; including Nelson wiping out.<span id="more-132"></span></p>
<p class="center"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yzOoJ8SyHdI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yzOoJ8SyHdI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></p>
<p>This video is also <a title="Annual Ski Trip III at the Poconos Video on Blip.tv" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/Fonegrabber-AnnualSkiTripIIIJan2007257.mov">available in better quality</a>, 640&#215;480 resolution and 30fps on <a title="Blip.TV" href="http://blip.tv">Blip.tv</a></p>

I did not bring a laptop, but thanks to the WiFi connection, I was able to use the Nokia N93&#8217;s web browser to keep up to date.</p>

<p>The Nokia blog just added a new Nokia <a title="Nokia Phone Price Checks" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/">price check</a> section. Readers who read the blog can now also check the lowest prices of the latest Nokia phones like the <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Prices" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n93/">Nokia N93</a>, <a title="Nokia N73 Lowest Prices" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n73/">Nokia N73</a>, <a title="Nokia N91 Lowest Prices" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/n91/">Nokia N91</a>, etc. The prices are sorted from the lowest to highest Buy It Now prices taken from eBay. From experience, <a title="eBay" href="http://www.ebay.com">eBay</a> usually have the lowest prices because of the massive amount of sellers competing with each other.<span id="more-128"></span></p>
<p>The Nokia blog&#8217;s <a title="Nokia Phone Price Checks" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/">Price Check</a> section is automatically updated whenever a seller comes with a lower price. The list also goes though a filter to make sure the search results show the correct phone and not its accessories, like faceplates or leather covers. Don&#8217;t you hate going through a long list of search results and not able to find what you want? Save a few clicks and $$$ with the new <a title="Nokia Phone Price Checks" href="http://thenokiablog.com/pricecheck/">Price Check</a> section.</p>

<p>Video was taken indoors at night, but the Nokia N93 was still able to capture excellent footage. While not great for professionals, it is perfect for home videos. So get rid of your huge cartridge-tape camcorders and get a digital camcorder that also works as a phone&#8230; the <a title="Nokia N93 lowest Prices at Fonegrabber" href="http://fonegrabber.com/128/nokia-n93/">Nokia N93</a>!</p>

<p>The <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Prices at Fonegrabber" href="http://fonegrabber.com/128/nokia-n93/">Nokia N93</a> is the perfect phone to carry around because it lets you capture unexpected events in video at very good quality. This past weekend, I was at <a href="http://www.show-nightclub.com/">Show Nightclub</a> for some fun and drinks when suddenly <a title="Clipse" href="http://www.clipseonline.com/">Clipse</a> took the stage to perform a few songs from their new album, Hell Hath No Fury. I&#8217;m not a huge fan of rap, but I&#8217;ve always liked the beats coming from Clipse&#8217;s producers, <a title="Pharrell and the Neptunes" href="http://www.startrakmusic.com/">Pharrell &#038; the Neptunes</a>. I was not expecting anyone I know, but once I recognized the beats, I took the <a title="Nokia N93 Lowest Prices at Fonegrabber" href="http://fonegrabber.com/128/nokia-n93/">Nokia N93</a> out and swiveled into video mode right away.<span id="more-103"></span></p>

<p><script type="text/javascript">	play_blip_movie_117630();</script>															</center></p>
<p>This video is also <a title="Clipse Perform at Show Nightclub" href="http://blip.tv/file/get/Fonegrabber-ClipsePerformanceShowNightclub385.mov">available in better quality</a>, 640&#215;480 resolution at 30fps. More pictures from the club that night can be seen at <a title="Show Club Pictures by Latin Fuego December 8th" href="http://latinfuego.com/picpage2.php?fold_id=284">Latin Fuego</a>.</p>
<p>Do you notice the sound quality? If you&#8217;ve listened to concert videos recorded by Nokia N93 owners a few months ago, the sound gives a &#8220;whooshing&#8221; noise in loud environment. For example, check this <a title="Nokia N93 and Aerosmith Concert" href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=uqmQs1xrBJo">Aerosmith video</a> taken 3 months ago. I&#8217;ve already updated the Nokia N93 firmware twice, currently <a title="Nokia N93 Firmware 20.0.058" href="http://thenokiablog.com/2006/11/17/review-nokia-n93-update-firmware-version-200058/">version 20.0.058</a>. I think Nokia fixed the audio recording in the latest firmware because I did not have any of the whooshing sound in the video. I&#8217;ll test it out some more.</p>

Since winter break is coming and classes will be over in a couple of weeks, expect some more short videos from me.</p>
<p>I hope that the Nokia N95 is as good as the Nokia N93 at capturing videos because I love the video quality of my Nokia N93. Release dates for the Nokia N95 is blurry right now and <a title="Nokia N95 Release Date" href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/12/04/nokia-site-shows-q2-07-release-for-n95/">Engadget</a> notices it may come out as late as March &#8216;07. We&#8217;ll reserve that discussion for another post. Enjoy the video!</p>
