Opera Mobile 10 Updated to Beta 2 – Adds Native Keyboard Input

Opera Mobile 10 was updated to Beta 2 on Monday. Opera is aiming to improve the user experience as they get closer to the final version. The key update for the second beta is native keyboard integration. I also notice some improvement in performance.

Opera Mobile 10 beta just came out for Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition devices. I installed it on the Nokia N97 right away and shot it on video to show you how it looks. It’s a nice alternate browser, but prepare for occasional headaches because it’s still in beta.

Opera Mini 5 Beta is out now and I installed it right away to give you a video demo. I use the Nokia 5530 and the Nokia N97 to show the browser’s new features like tabbed browsing, thumbnail bookmarks, and other usability improvements. Go watch it!

Opera Mini Silently Updated to 4.2.14320

The default web browser on my Nokia 5800 (NAM v20) is too slow for my liking, so I’ve been using Opera Mini. It looks like they silently updated it to version 4.2.14320 on May 12th. No announcements are found on their site or forums. A minor update like this could most likely mean bug fixes. I didn’t find any new features.

Vlog: What Nokia/S60 Browser Needs to Steal From Opera Mini and iPhone’s Browser

I’m not a big fan of Opera Mini, but it’s got something the built-in S60 web browser doesn’t. After pressing dot in the address bar, a drop down shows up with auto completion of .com, .org, and .net. The iPhone’s browser even have a dedicated “.com” button. Come on Nokia/S60, those extra 7 keypresses in the address bar needs to be eliminated. Check out my video to see what I mean.
