Bye Ovi Share!

Nokia announced on Monday they’re discontinuing Ovi Share on May 30, 2012. Users can download their content before the service gets unplugged. You can download your content in one large file, or in various packages for those with slower connections. The decision will help Nokia focus on core service offerings.

Ovi to be Rebranded as Nokia Starting July 2011

You will no longer see the word “Ovi” by the end of 2012. The official Nokia Conversations posted that the company made the decision to change their service branding from Ovi to nokia to centralize their services identity under one brand. The transition begins July of this year. No big changes are expected for the services experiences since this is just a name-change.

Nokia’s Ovi Maps to Replace Bing Maps, Insider Says

An insider told Search Engine Land that Nokia’s Ovi Maps will “replace everything that Microsoft had developed over the past several years in terms of the Bing Maps infrastructure.” Microsoft’s role would be on the Bing Maps UI. This is shocking to Search Engine Land because they say Microsoft has already invested hundreds of millions of dollars (if not billions) in their mapping technology.

Ovi Store Going Down for Maintenance March 9th 6PM EST

The Ovi Publisher Support Team reminds us that the Ovi Store will undergo maintenance this Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 from 18:00 to 22:30 EST. The Ovi Store will be unavailable to users at that time while Nokia will be implementing some changes. We’ll update you with more specifics of the improvements once the Ovi Store is online again.

Nokia Users Love Justin Bieber

The official Ovi Blog reported Nokia users went Bieber-crazy in the past month. He moved up to #26 in the Ovi Music Store download chart from #52. Justin Bieber’s downloads are also reportedly up 350% from this time last year. Did any of you help him with these stats?

Nokia Phasing Out Ovi Music Unlimited?

The Esphoneblog received mail that the Nokia Ovi Music Unlimited will be discontinued in Finland. Will other countries soon follow? According to the letter, devices bundled with Ovi Music Unlimited will no longer ship from Nokia’s factories this year. Customers can still activate the 1-year subscription on devices currently on the market, and current subscribers will not be affected. Check out the letter after the jump.

Top 10 Downloaded Games at Ovi Store are Free

The official Nokia Conversations blog just listed the top 10 downloaded games at the Ovi Store for the new Symbian devices (Nokia N8, C7, C6-01). They’re all free, so this is a great list to check if you’re looking for new games on your phone. There were a few games I haven’t check out yet that I’m definitely going to download now.
