According to Foss Patents, Google nor Asus has yet to work out license agreements with Nokia. This is interesting because the Nexus 7 was just announced. The new tablet has a 7-inch HD display running the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. It costs $199, but will Google need to raise the price once it has cleared all of the necessary patent rights?

Nokia Sues Shanghai Firm on Lens Cover Patent

Nokia is suing Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology Co Ltd, one of China’s top cellphone design companies, for infringing its patented method of covering the lens when the phone is not in use. Nokia wants the Shanghai company to stop producing and selling the offending products. Nokia also demands 10 million yuan (US $1.55 million) as compensation.

Apple and Nokia will be facing off at the International Trade Commission this week to resolve a bitter dispute over smartphone patents. The commission has the power to ban imports of products found to infringe U.S. patents, but the most likely outcome is that the companies agree to end the litigation by licensing each other’s patents. Apple has been preparing for battle as Bloomberg reported today that Apple has hired several high-profile patent lawyers.

Caltech Accuses Nokia & Others of Infringing Camera Patents

The California Institute of Technology is suing Nokia, LG Electronics, Pantech, and others for infringing on nine patents related to camera technology, according to Businessweek. The California-based research university filed their complaint today in federal court in Los Angeles and seeks unspecified damages. None of the companies involved provided any official response yet.

Let’s Take this Outside (the USA), Apple Sues Nokia in Britain

Reuters just reported that Apple has sued Nokia in Britain, extending their patent disagreements outside the US. Their legal battle started last October when Nokia sued Apple in the United States. A spokesman for Nokia said the recent claims are based on patents already in suit between the two companies in the US.
