Hmmm… the official Maemo/MeeGo Twitter account just tweeted, “Rumours of my Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated.” Their previous tweet was from last December! Something is definitely up. This looks like another hint of a MeeGo announcement at the upcoming June 21st Nokia Connection event in Singapore.
Victor Saeijs, Vice President of Nokia Europe, carries an early prototype of their first Windows Phone, but he can’t show it off yet. He told the audience at the 2011 Mobile Telecompaper conference they would launch the first handsets this year in Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Spain and Italy. What a tease!
Heard of the limited 18-carat gold-plated Nokia Oro? Nokia announced it just a couple of days ago. Premium devices such as the Oro are popular in the Middle East and Russia, but it looks like the US will be selling them as well. The FCC documents for Nokia Oro were published on Friday.
Forbes sat down with Nokia’s Executive VP of Smart Devices on Tuesday to talk about upcoming Nokia Windows Phone devices. There are no breaking news, but it’s always nice to get more info on future devices directly from execs. I’ve listed some of the highlights from the article. Check it out.
Carlo Bozotti, the Chief Executive of European semiconductor maker STMicroelectronics, told Forbes that ST-Ericsson will be one of two chip suppliers for Nokia’s upcoming Windows Phones. The other supplier is Qualcomm. The first ST-Ericsson chipset that will appear in a Nokia Windows Phone is the U8500. More details of the chipset after the jump.
We just got tipped by someone who has been right in the past that a Nokia MeeGo device for developers will be announced in June. Nokia will let the devs know how to get one, but the consumer device won’t be available until some time after. This is similar to the Nokia N900 release when developers got their hands on the device a month before public release.
I wonder if this specific model will get a different kind of packaging. The Nokia UK shop just released an “exclusive” phone called, “Nokia E7 Blue with Apps.” From the description, it’s a blue Nokia E7 with 7 pre-installed apps: Advanced Call Manager, Monopoly Classic HD, Tetris HD, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. HD, Galaxy on Fire, Asphalt 5 HD, and Hero of Sparta HD.
Current Nokia N8 owners might get a little angry about this news. The pink Nokia N8 is now available for pre-order in the UK and buyers will receive them on May 13th.
It will come pre-packed with the Symbian Anna update which is not currently available to current N8 owners. Are you mad?
The pink Nokia N8 became official today. Nokia says the insides are the same, just a different color. There’s also an inclusion of a pink theme and a pink clock. From the press photos, we assume it will come with Symbian Anna pre-installed. It would suck if this pink Nokia N8 comes out before my silver N8 gets the Anna update.
