Nokia to Exhibit and Keynote at MWC 2012
Is Nokia Going to be Late in the Game Again?
September. That’s when the next iPhone is rumored to come out. It’s also when industry sources claim HTC, Samsung and LG will launch the first Mango-based Windows smartphones. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop wants to release the first Nokia Windows Phone this year. Long-time Nokia fans probably assume December 31st, 2011 because Nokia has been really slow to act lately.
Nokia’s Debt Rating is Almost Junk
Moody’s Investors Service, one of the big three credit rating agencies, lowered Nokia’s debt rating to two steps above junk. The debt rating was reduced by two steps to Baa2, the second-lowest among 10 investment-grade rankings. Nokia quickly responded that Moody’s rating will not have a major impact on their current financing costs.

First Nokia Windows Phone Still on Track for 2011
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has been telling everyone that the first Nokia device with Windows Phone is targeted for fourth quarter of 2011. We reached out to Nokia for clarification. Read on, for the current official word on the release date.
First Nokia Windows Phone Leaked on Video
This is too good to be a “leak.” The first video of a Nokia Windows phone just showed up . It has CEO Stephen Elop in it asking the audience to turn off their cameras and recording devices. The video comes from Technet which also had multiple cameras and direct feed access to the overhead display. Honestly, it looked produced by Nokia themselves. Take a look.
Nokia to Reveal a New Market Disrupting Device on June 21st
iTWire reported they received an invitation from Nokia Australia for an announcement and demo of a “new market disrupting device” on June 21st. Following the demo will be a live broadcast of Stephen Elop’s keynote speech from the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. You might remember that Stephen Elop previously described MeeGo as their “future disruption in mobile ecosystem.” That makes us assume we’ll be seeing a Nokia MeeGo device next week.
Apple Pays Up in Patent License Agreement With Nokia
This is probably the first positive Nokia news I’ve seen in a while. Nokia just announced that Apple will be giving a one-time payment and on-going royalties due to a recently signed patent license agreement. The specific terms of the contract are confidential, but intellectual property expert, Florian Mueller, says that there’s serious money in this for Nokia.
Jan 4th, The Day Stephen Elop Realized MeeGo Was Not Enough
Bloomberg has a nice lengthy article on Nokia CEO Stephen Elop’s Nokia Adventure that I suggest you go read right right now. One part I’d like to point out is when Nokia decided to put MeeGo in the backseat in favor of Windows Phone. It was when they realized MeeGo would not be able to keep Nokia in the game.
