Finnish Union Demands EUR 100K to Each Nokia Employee Laid Off From Strategy Overhaul
Chairman of a large Finnish trade union, Antti Rinne, told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday it will demand Nokia to pay EUR 100,000 to each employee it lays off as part of its strategy overhaul. The union represents 5,000 Nokia employees. Rinne says the lump sum in addition to their severance payment will pay for their reeducation.
Nokia’s Symbian Heading Towards Extinction

Nokia Explains Strategy for MeeGo and Symbian After Microsoft Partnership
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop did not explain what Nokia’s doing with MeeGo and Symbian in his open letter, but they were outlined in a following press release. Symbian becomes a franchise platform, while MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating system project. Details after the jump.
