Is this the Nokia 801?

Here’s an alleged photo of the Nokia 801, a Nokia Belle phone, according to SmartPhoneGeeks and mobile insider Eldar Murtazin. I am very skeptic about this rumor, but I think it’s worth sharing and discussing. It looks a lot like the Nokia Lumia 900 and 800 with the unibody polycarbonate material. Specs after the jump.

Nokia Killing Symbian Earlier Than Planned, Only One More Device

Nokia is killing off Symbian earlier than planned, according to The Register. Only one new Symbian model is expected to reach the market which is the successor to the Nokia N8. The Nokia Belle update is still planned to roll out to existing customers.

Swype for Symbian got updated to 2.0 and it’s available now at Nokia Beta Labs. The most obvious change is support for portrait and split-screen for devices with Symbian Anna. Here’s a demo of this awesome keyboard on my Nokia N8.

The Favourite Apps widget extends the default shortcut widget by providing total of 15 spots for your favorite applications. The default widget only gives users 4 shortcuts. In addition, the widget shows the names of the applications. The default widget has no names under the icons. Video after the jump.

Symbian Anna Now Live in More Countries, USA Still Missing

Nokia told us the Symbian Anna update was going to roll out for three weeks after its announcement. Today, the update went live in France, Spain, Latin America, Ireland, Hong Kong, Romania, and Ukraine. Unfortunately, US-based Nokia users like me still have to wait.

Symbian Belle Video Walkthrough

Symbian Belle OS gets an official walkthrough directly from Nokia. This update will be available to current devices in coming months. It will bring an improved status bar, modernized navigation and options bar, and free-form resizable widgets. Read on for more details.

Something New on Symbian Expected Aug 24th

If you head over to the Nokia Facebook page, there’s a countdown for something new on Symbian. It reaches zero on August 24th. We notice a squircle object in the background. Who knows… maybe we’ll be seeing some Symbian Belle devices.

The long-awaited Symbian Anna update is now available for the Nokia Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, and the E7. The update includes new icons, portrait QWERTY keyboard (yay!), faster web browser, and other minor improvements. I recorded a video to show Anna for those who haven’t updated yet.

Polar to Launch 300 Apps for Nokia Phones, First 50 on Symbian

Nokia partners up with Polar Mobile to launch over 300 mobile apps for major media brands over the next 12 months. The apps will be made available to Nokia devices running Symbian, MeeGo, and Windows Phone. The first 50 will be available for Symbian through the Nokia Ovi Store in the next two months.
