<p>It&#8217;s going to be interesting how people are going to use this app on their new Nokia. The effects can be used in fun clips, but it isn&#8217;t hard to imagine an ambitious filmmaker create a short film with these effects. </p>

<p>GSM Online from Poland just published a video walkthrough of the Nokia N8 covering probably everything except the web browser and camera. You should watch it because the last segment shows Nokia Messaging breezing through emails. It&#8217;s great to preview these <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/06/15/nokia-n8-hands-on-first-impressions/" title="Nokia N8 Preview">Nokia N8</a> videos as we get closer to the release date. It seems to get more responsive in each new video that pops up.<span id="more-5796"></span></p>

<p><strong>update:</strong> GSM Online deleted the video and re-uploaded it without the Nokia Messaging segments. Here&#8217;s the new one:</p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jf2xwoznzzc&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jf2xwoznzzc&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p><a href="http://gsmonline.pl/portal/news/news.jsp?s0n_id=25967" title="Nokia N8 Preview by GSM Online">GSM Online</a> says the hardware they played with is the final retail version, but the software isn&#8217;t. They also say it acted pretty quick, but you can see that for yourself in the video. </p>

<p>We&#8217;ve seen photos and <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/06/29/nokia-rm-626-video/" title="RM-626 Video">video</a> of the prototype Nokia RM-626, but it was hard to determine the actual size of the display without a solid comparison. Thanks to <a href="http://www.technobuffalo.com/blog/mobile-devices/nokia-n9-prototype-hands-on-video" title="Prototype RM-626 video">Techno Buffalo&#8217;s</a> latest video, they confirmed it has a 4-inch capacitive multi-touch display.<span id="more-5606"></span></p>
<p>We don&#8217;t know the commercial name for this prototype yet, but my guess is Nokia N8-01. Others say N9, C7, etc, but right now, there&#8217;s no official confirmation.</p>
<p>The video is embedded below. Head to the blog if it&#8217;s not visible in your RSS reader.</p>
<p><object width="448" height="252"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=12983760&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=00ADEF&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=12983760&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=00ADEF&amp;fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="448" height="252"></embed></object></p>
<p>Some other things that are worth mentioning are the 640&#215;360 resolution, front-facing camera with LED flash (is that world&#8217;s first?), and HDMI out. </p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Nokia-N8-htc-evo-iphone-4.jpg" alt="Nokia N8 htc evo iphone 4.jpg" border="0" width="448" height="247" /><br />
<em>Nokia RM-626 next to iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G</em></p>
<p>I&#8217;m concerned that the resolution isn&#8217;t good enough for a display this size. Keep in mind the Apple iPhone 4 with a 3.5-inch screen has a 960&#215;640 resolution while a Samsung Galaxy S with 4-inch screen has 800&#215;480. Without even holding the actual device, I can tell you right now that the display on this prototype RM-626 isn&#8217;t sharp.</p>

<p>The device looks thin enough and I like the reassuring clicks when they slide the keyboard. It features dual LED camera flash, instead of the stronger xenon flash on the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/06/15/nokia-n8-hands-on-first-impressions/" title="Nokia N8 Hands-on and First Impressions">Nokia N8</a>. It seems to be running Symbian^3 as well. </p>

<p>Learning about this prototype creates a problematic question for me. Which do I want more? Xenon flash on the Nokia N8 or the Qwerty keyboard on this unnamed model RM-626? What do you think?</p>

<p><a href="http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/06/08/nokia-n8-video-walkthrough-photo-features/">Nokia</a> released a video on Tuesday showing the photo/video browser and editor on the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/04/27/nokia-n8-official/">Nokia N8</a>. I paid a lot of attention to the video editor because it&#8217;s a feature that I really want to test out. Read on for my findings.<span id="more-5421"></span></p>
<p>The Nokia N8 video editor seems easy to use. You start out with an empty Storyboard and then insert some videos and photos.</p>
<p><img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Nokia-N8-Storyboard.jpg" alt="Nokia N8 Storyboard.jpg" border="0" width="448" height="264" /></p>
<p>Notice that selecting media scrolls left and right. </p>

<p>We can add titles and edit its size, color, and position</p>

<p>I noticed 12 transition effects we can insert between clips.</p>

<h4>Video</h4>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AM2FTzuQfo4&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AM2FTzuQfo4&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<h4>What They Didnt Show</h4>
<p>The video did not show what happens after we&#8217;re done editing. Can we choose the export size? How long does it take to process? Can we upload to Youtube easily? We also didn&#8217;t see a demo of inserting music to the movie, but it looks like an available option. </p>
<h4>Compared to iMovie on iPhone</h4>
<p>The video editor on the Nokia N8 will be compared to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j69pZU5d2cs" title="iMovie for iPhone">iMovie for iPhone</a> by reviewers. They mostly share the same core features but I think the built-in theme transitions, texts, and music on iMovie makes it a step ahead of the Nokia N8&#8217;s video editor. There&#8217;s still time for Nokia to improve the video editor before the Nokia N8 goes on sale later this summer.</p>

<p>It briefly shows off the TV-out and video feature of the N8, but I was more intrigued whether the foosball tricks were real. If you watch the until end, you can see some behind-the-scenes and slow-mo footage.</p>

<p>The Nseries blog just released a video of the <a href="http://blogs.nokia.com/nseries/2010/05/12/introducing-the-nokia-n8-design-team/" title="Introducing the Nokia N8 design team! &#8211; Nokia Nseries">Nokia N8 design team</a> talking about the inspiration and craftsmanship behind the upcoming device. People are definitely excited, but there&#8217;s a long wait until it hits retailers&#8217; shelves. This video might help keep the excitement alive. <span id="more-5255"></span></p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lZNxaW3OJws&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lZNxaW3OJws&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p>The Nokia N8 is built with aluminum material that is light yet strong. It also allows them to create details without the need of adding another material by using diamond cutting. Perhaps what&#8217;s more visible to users is that the aluminum material gave Nokia the opportunity to add different colors: Green, Orange, Blue, Silver, Black. Which color is for you? I&#8217;m thinking orange or blue.</p>

It didn&#8217;t have the cool professional lighting from Nokia&#8217;s official videos and you had to turn your head to watch it. However, it gave us a nice little preview of the web browser for the upcoming device. Unfortunately it was immediately <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgZiql4sKXg" title="YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.">taken down</a>.<span id="more-5201"></span></p>

<p>The video started with a preloaded page from <a href="http://www.arabnokia.net/" title="">Arab Nokia</a> on the browser, then the Nokia N8 proceeded to demo kinetic scrolling, multitouch pinch-to-zoom, flash support, and the transition between landscape and horizontal orientation. Overall, it looked smooth and snappy, but zooming out seemed to be a little slow. Grey and white boxes were visible before re-rendering the page. It was a pre-production device, so I hope that gets fixed when the final version comes out.</p>

<p>In the next sample videos, I&#8217;d like to see more handheld shots and hear some actual audio from the Nokia N8. According to a recent post on Conversations about the <a href="http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/04/28/nokia-n8-and-its-hd-video-smarts/" title="Nokia N8 and its HD video smarts | Nokia Conversations - The official Nokia Blog">Nokia N8&#8217;s HD video</a>, the device sports two mics. The N8 can capture the user&#8217;s voice and ambience in a loud room with music where competitors struggle.</p>
<p>Another cool video feature of the Nokia N8 is its active hyper-focal distance. Nokia claims this technology makes subjects from 60cm up to infinity remain in focus when you’re shooting. The sample video above does indeed show the object and background in focus.</p>
<p><img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/nokia_n82.png" alt="Nokia n8" height="384" width="448"></p>
<p>I&#8217;m really liking the Nokia N8 after learning about its imaging and video capabilities. I love taking photos and videos. That&#8217;s the reason I carry my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001G5ZTLS/?tag=crvn-20" title="">DSLR</a> (it takes videos too) as much as I can. However, there are situations when it&#8217;s too big to carry around. Having a cameraphone that takes photos and videos comparable to standalone cameras makes a great backup to my DSLR. I look forward to testing it out myself.</p>

<p>Video feeds, podcasts, or vodcasts, tv show episodes, blog videos, news and much more can be downloaded and managed directly on your Nokia phone. In this guide, I&#8217;ll show you three ways you can add these video content to your Symbian^1 devices like the Nokia N97 or the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2009/12/01/nokia-n97-mini-review/" title="Nokia N97 mini review">N97 mini</a>.<span id="more-5021"></span></p>
<h4>Podcasting</h4>
<p>The Podcasting app can play audio and video files. The first thing you need to do is find your favorite podcasts and subscribe to it. You can either do this in the directories or the featured podcasts on your phone. Another option is to use the search feature. If you can&#8217;t find the podcasts of your favorite site, you can manually enter the address, too.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/ba00e47ef508473faa492335c6f1017f.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
<em>Podcasts Directories</em></p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/70b3d4d21dd740558e880d15cb8d92a2.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
<em>Search Feature</em></p>
<p>To update your podcasts, I recommend that you go to the settings and tweak in accordance to your desired setup. You can choose to manually or automatically update your list.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/a27c27c875b84c88bda0fdce7ce734ac.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="384" /> <img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/1c05a6e3db86450088b1f2bfebbb2189.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="384" /><br />
<em>Settings for Download and Connection</em></p>
<p>In the podcast list, you can see its percentage of downloaded portion or a check when completed. You can also open the web page link of the corresponding item.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/e83d080eb8df4825b4636c237bec7851.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="384" /> <img class="aligncenter" src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/531433be5fcc42a4babbb3dea40704c9.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="384" /><br />
<em>Podcasts Status</em></p>
<p>Note that you cannot watch video files that in your Music Player Podcasts library because only MP3s are transferred. You go to Videos &#038; TV for the downloaded video podcasts.</p>
<p style="center"><object width="448" height="336"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1YIetnt04MA&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1YIetnt04MA&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="336"></embed></object></p>
<h4>Web Feeds</h4>
<p>Web feeds can be found in the web browser where you can manage your XML files such as RSS. Unlike the Podcasting app, it downloads the articles or headlines which contains vodcast links for streaming or direct download in your phone.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/75fc71c9a5394a18a471e9e9f2466d96.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
<em>Web Feeds Library</em></p>
<p>To add feeds, you need to visit the web page of your favorite sites then you can subscribe on their RSS. The hard things to find are the Vodcasts of your favorite sites or media groups and I suggest that you use the search engine for that.</p>
<p>Feeds which contain vodcasts can be downloaded directly to your phone and viewed in your gallery.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/4798489f14fb490c9c4b7795c32c2472.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
<em>Headline and Download Link</em></p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/5668e2aa5ada4ed7a912256dd982265f.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
<em>Video Feeds Episodes</em></p>
<p>For YouTube feeds, you can only see the links in your web feeds library and stream from your web browser.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the link on how can you setup and add more RSS feeds from YouTube. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/rssls">Click here.</a></p>
<p class="center"><object width="448" height="336"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/reBLEH8vS1Q&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/reBLEH8vS1Q&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="336"></embed></object></p>
<h4>Videos &#038; TV</h4>
<p>You can also add video feeds in the Videos &#038; TV application. You can add the RSS or any XML file of your favorite blog shows or news.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/3c46c1352e1d433a8b65ed126e0392e1.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
 <em>Videos &#038; TV</em></p>
<p>Adding video feeds can be done through manual typing the url address of your favorite shows. The video directories that Nokia included only link you to Audio &#038; Video of Ovi Store.</p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1930/a386a19c10fa4cc28c2977e5a8af477d.jpg" alt="" width="384" height="216" /><br />
	<em>Video Feeds Library</em></p>
<p>Both MP4 and WMV files can be played on your Nokia N97 and N97 Mini so all iPods &#038; PSPs videos can be added in your feeds.</p>
<p class="center"><object width="448" height="336"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8akufZzHwQc&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8akufZzHwQc&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="336"></embed></object></p>

<h4Gravity Updated to Build 6365</h4>
<p>In related news, build 6365 update was just released for Gravity. One of the many reasons we like this app so much is that it is constantly updated for new features and bug fixes. It was just a few days ago when <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/03/30/gravity-symbian-build-6358-changelog/" title="Gravity for Symbian Updated to Build 6358. Here&#8217;s the Changelog">build 6358</a> was released.</p>
<p>New to 6365:</p>
<ul>
<li>Foursquare: Badges, history, silent check-in</li>
<li>Read it Later</li>
<li>Google Reader cached</li>
<li>User Profile image upload</li>
<li>Fixed: GPS handling: several crash-bugs</li>
</ul>

<p>Here&#8217;s a video demo from Sygic:</p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2HWs4nAJaiM&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2HWs4nAJaiM&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p>So far, only the US and Europe are supported, and it appears you have to purchase them separately if you want both. It costs EUR 50 and 60 for US and Europe respectively. Sygic says on their website that further regions will be added and announced gradually.</p>
<p>I think it is a little expensive considering that Ovi maps for Symbian provides <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/21/nokia-free-worldwide-walk-drive-navigation-ovi-maps/" title="Nokia Gives Away Free Worldwide Walk &amp; Drive Navigation For New Ovi Maps">free worldwide navigation</a> as well as Android offering free navigation in the US.</p>

<p>Power users can drain their devices of battery life within a couple of hours if they wanted to. One solution from Nokia that can help extend the battery life of your devices is the Nokia DC-11 Extra Power charger. Not only does it provide up to one charge, but its slim design and rugged build quality make it really easy to carry in your other pocket or just throw in the bag.<span id="more-4795"></span></p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FxNnkNdIgQw&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FxNnkNdIgQw&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p>You can also <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxNnkNdIgQw" title="Nokia DC-11 Review: Extra Power Charger">watch this video in HD</a> on Youtube. <a href="http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thenokiablog">Subscribe to the channel</a> to preview the latest videos before they get published on the blog.</p>
<p>The DC-11 has a capacity of 1500mAh and recharges for about two and a half hours. If you&#8217;re at home, it is recommended to connect the AC adapter to the DC-11 and then the DC-11 to your device so that both gets charged at the same time. Since the DC-11 has both the 2mm and micro-USB connector, you can even charge an additional device.</p>
<p><img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/nokia_dc_11.jpg" alt="Nokia dc 11" height="302" width="448"></p>
<p>Charging the DC-11 itself requires the 2mm connector. The sales package does not come with it so this could be a problem if you don&#8217;t have this type of power adapter lying around already and if you have newer devices like the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/go/nokia-n900/" title="">Nokia N900</a> and the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/go/nokia-n97-mini/" title="">N97 mini</a> that came with microUSB chargers.</p>
<p>The Nokia DC-11 can be found online for <a href="http://nokb.ly/dc11" title="Amazon.com: DC-11 Extra Power Charger Amer: Electronics">about $45 USD</a>. I think power users and people who travel frequently will find it really handy.</p>

<p>A couple of bookmarklets I use a lot are the <a href="http://bit.ly/pages/tools" title="bit.ly, a simple url shortener">Bit.ly sidebar</a> and<br />
<a href="http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2008/08/14/press-this-bookmarklet/" title="Press This&nbsp;Bookmarklet &#8212; Blog &#8212; WordPress.com">Wordpress Press This</a>. <p>You can also <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4-jSJWT550" title="Nokia N900 and Bookmarklets">watch this video in HD</a> on Youtube. <a href="http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thenokiablog">Subscribe to the channel</a> to preview the latest videos before they get published on the blog.</p>
<p>To save a bookmarklet on the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/go/nokia-n900/" title="">Nokia N900</a>, long-press on the link and add as a bookmark. You can access it later by clicking on the bookmarks button on the lower left corner. That&#8217;s it! </p>
<p>It&#8217;s not that easy on other devices. Saving bookmarklets on the iPhone requires syncing with a computer. There are other ways, but again, it&#8217;s not as intuitive as the N900. I also tried saving a bookmarklet on the Nexus One and the Nokia N97 mini, but failed.</p>

The Nokia X6 was spotted in Kesha&#8217;s music video of her latest single, Blah Blah Blah featuring 3OH!3. I&#8217;m not sure, but I think they made the Nokia logo bigger for the video. The on-screen qwerty and camera were shown off. Check it out.

<p>The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition got a firmware update to software version 40.2.005, but it feels incomplete. Kinetic scrolling is not applied everywhere like in the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2009/12/01/nokia-n97-mini-review/" title="Nokia N97 Mini Review">Nokia N97 mini</a> and the original N97. The new <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/21/nokia-free-worldwide-walk-drive-navigation-ovi-maps/" title="Nokia Gives Away Free Worldwide Walk &amp; Drive Navigation For New Ovi Maps">Ovi maps with free navigation</a> isn&#8217;t included within the new firmware either, so you have another download to take care of if you haven&#8217;t installed it previously.<span id="more-4670"></span> </p>
<p>Heres a quick video of the firmware on the Nokia 5800 Nav edition. Some areas in the interface have kinetic scrolling like the phone settings. It could be confusing how to scroll through lists. </p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_YDVIlo6YEw&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_YDVIlo6YEw&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p>You can also <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YDVIlo6YEw" title="YouTube<br />
				- Nokia 5800 Navigation Ed. Firmware v40">watch this video in HD</a> on Youtube. <a href="http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thenokiablog">Subscribe to the channel</a> to preview the latest videos before they get published on the blog.</p>
<p>The Nokia 5800 Nav is just like the regular version I <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2009/03/19/nokia-5800-review-of-hardware/" title="Nokia 5800 Review of Hardware">reviewed</a> previously, with the addition of a car mount and car charger. It initially came out with a lifetime license for navigation, but the newer version of Ovi Maps gave <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/21/nokia-free-worldwide-walk-drive-navigation-ovi-maps/" title="Nokia Gives Away Free Worldwide Walk &amp; Drive Navigation For New Ovi Maps">all supported models free navigation</a>. You can watch the <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/22/nokia-5800-navigation-edition-unboxing-video/" title="Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition Unboxing Video">unboxing</a> to see the contents.</p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t found any changelogs yet, but I&#8217;ll assume the new firmware also fixed some bugs and improved stability.</p>

<p>Fierce Wireless uploaded a couple of videos from Symbian showing a <a href="http://www.fiercewireless.com/first-glimpse-nokias-symbian-4-operating-system" title="First glimpse: Nokia&#039;s Symbian^4 operating system - FierceWireless">preview</a> of the Symbian^4 UI. One is for the homescreen and the other for the photos album. They&#8217;re not the usual flashy marketing videos, but it gives you an idea of what to expect.<span id="more-4633"></span></p>
<p class="center"><img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/symbian_4_photos.jpg" alt="Symbian 4 Photos" height="385" width="215"> <img src="http://thenokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/symbian_4.jpg" alt="Symbian 4" height="385" width="215"></p>
<p>From what I see, Symbian^4 looks like a combination of Maemo and Android UI. For example, the exit button on the upper right corner is replaced by a &#8220;back&#8221; or &#8220;previous&#8221; button that Android users are familiar with. The photos demo looks nice. I like the scrolling thumbnail below the larger photo.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s sad is that it will be a while until we see a Symbian^4 device. According to the <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/Roadmap_for_the_Symbian_Platform" title="Roadmap for the Symbian Platform - Symbian Developer Community">Symbian roadmap</a>, S^4 won&#8217;t be code complete until Q3 2010 and we won&#8217;t see any handsets until the first half of 2011. </p>

<p>I noticed a <a href="https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7285">bug report</a> about portrait mode on the Nokia N900&#8217;s web browser. Wait&#8230; there&#8217;s portrait view now? It seems this hidden feature can be enabled on the web browser by pressing Ctrl-Shift-o. This works on the latest <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2009/11/13/nokia-n900-review/" title="Nokia N900 Review">Nokia N900</a> firmware <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/14/nokia-n900-firmware-updated-to-2-2009-51-1-changelog-included/" title="Nokia N900 Firmware Updated to 2.2009.51-1 &#8211; Changelog Included">2.2009.51-1</a> and seems to be an undocumented feature. I made a video to show you how it looks.<span id="more-4263"></span></p>
<p><object width="448" height="277"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t77yb6xj_TQ&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t77yb6xj_TQ&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="277"></embed></object></p>
<p>You can also <a title="Nokia N900 Web browser Portrait Mode" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t77yb6xj_TQ&#038;hd=1">watch this video in HD</a> on Youtube. <a href="http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thenokiablog">Subscribe to the channel</a> to preview the latest videos before they get published on the blog.</p>
<p>Pressing the three buttons toggle it on and off, maintaining the setting even after rebooting the Nokia N900. The screen automatically rotates when the keyboard is closed and the device is held upright. It goes back to landscape view if keyboard is slid open. The on-screen keyboard also appears in landscape view only. </p>
<p>Despite some of the drawbacks I mentioned above, it&#8217;s cool that Nokia left this &#8220;hidden feature&#8221; to be found by its users. I believe this option was hidden because it is simply not finished yet. </p>
<p>I actually prefer to use browser in landscape view, but some websites appear better in portrait mode. For example, my favorite <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/go/nokia-n900/" title="">Nokia N900</a> Twitter web app, <a href="http://hahlo.com/">Hahlo.com</a>, looks great in that view.</p>

<p>Simply go to <a href="http://www.google.com/maps/m" title="Google Maps">google.com/maps/m</a> on the Nokia N900&#8217;s web browser. The browser have the <a href="http://maemo.nokia.com/features/maemo-browser/gestures/" title="Maemo software | Nokia &rsaquo; Maemo Browser Interactive mode">Hover and Manipulation modes</a> that are handy on the Google maps mobile website. You can use these modes in order to move and zoom on the map.</p>
<p>The Google Maps mobile website allows users to search, view traffic, satellite view, and even call places. This solution isn&#8217;t perfect and a proper application should make the experience better.<del datetime="2010-01-13T05:24:36+00:00"> The web browser does not know your current location, so you have to double tap many times to zoom in from world view to to street.</del> Have a <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/go/nokia-n900/" title="">Nokia N900</a>? Go check it out and let us know what you think.</p>
<p><strong>Update: </strong>Thanks to a tip by <a href="http://twitter.com/dsawhney/statuses/7697663200">@dsawhney</a>, installing the <em>maemo-geolocation plugin</em> from Application manager enables the web browser to find my location for Google Maps! Awesome!</p>
