Victor Saeijs, Vice President of Nokia Europe, carries an early prototype of their first Windows Phone, but he can’t show it off yet. He told the audience at the 2011 Mobile Telecompaper conference they would launch the first handsets this year in Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Spain and Italy. What a tease!

Nokia Connection 2011, Nokia’s Biggest Event of the Year
Mark your calendars! Nokia is planning their biggest event of the year on June 21st. The Nokia Connection 2011 website claims a solid strategy is in place and the event is where the new Nokia ecosystem will be introduced first-hand to the world. We’ll assume they’re going to show their first Nokia Windows Phones.
Confirmed: First Nokia Windows Phone to Run Mango
Today Microsoft shared some details about the latest ‘Mango’ release of Windows Phone. The official Nokia Conversations blog confirmed the software will be used on the first Nokia device with Windows Phone. There are a couple of videos you might want to watch.
Nokia Windows Phones to Use ST-Ericsson U8500 Dual Core Chips
Carlo Bozotti, the Chief Executive of European semiconductor maker STMicroelectronics, told Forbes that ST-Ericsson will be one of two chip suppliers for Nokia’s upcoming Windows Phones. The other supplier is Qualcomm. The first ST-Ericsson chipset that will appear in a Nokia Windows Phone is the U8500. More details of the chipset after the jump.
Nokia to Release 12 More Smartphones in 2011
A Nokia Exec told Hindustan Times (HT) that Nokia is planning to release 12 more smartphones in 2011. We could even see some of these phones this month. Don’t expect any Nokia Windows phones, though. Those devices probably won’t come out until next year. Nokia expects to sell millions of Symbian devices in years to come, so I’ll assume most of the 12 upcoming smartphones this year will be running that OS.
Developers Getting Free Nokia E7, Windows Phone, Admission to Nokia World
To assist with development activities, Forum Nokia Launchpad members received an email today saying they are to receive a Nokia E7, a Windows Phone device, and admission to the next Nokia World/Nokia Developer Summit free of charge. Launchpad is designed to help accelerate development and elevate business visibility through Ovi store.

The Nokia Press event is still happening as I’m typing this. They’ve just showed off a photo of a Nokia Windows Phone prototype in several colors. It looks a lot like the leaked images from yesterday. Take a look.
