XpressMusic Media Bar Unofficially Ported to Nokia N900

Nokia XpressMusic devices such as the Nokia 5800 or 5530 have a touch button on the top corner to bring up shortcuts to core apps. This functionality has been introduced to the Nokia N900 thanks to MohammadAG from the Maemo forums. The shortcuts are activated by holding the proximity sensor on the Nokia N900.

Nokia has partnered with Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) and Universal Music Group International (UMGI) to launch Nokia Play 2010 to deliver unique and exclusive music content to fans around the world. It will kick off with a streamed concert from Rihanna on November 16th 2009. This announcement coincides with the global availability of the Nokia X6, an S60v5 device that Comes With Music.

You’ve seen the Nokia 5530 hands-on photos. Now it’s time for the video! I had a couple of days with it, so I have initial impressions to share. I was surprised that navigating through the menus feel better on the 5530 versus the Nokia N97. Nokia uses kinetic scrolling on the 5530 already while N97 users currently have to wait for the update. The Nokia 5530 Xpressmusic arrived at The Nokia Blog for review. It’s the same device that was uncovered from Nokia Conversations’ Pass the Parcel game. Briefly, its got a 2.9in touchscreen, runs on S60v5, 4GB microSD card included, contacts carousel in the homescreen, and no support for 3G. That’s enough specs for now. Check the photos.
