Today, we’re announcing AWS Lambda Web Functions, a new form factor that lets you run standard HTTP web applications on Lambda without rewriting your code into an event handler. You can take a standard port-listening server built with Express, Hono, Fastify, Next.js, or any Node.js framework, deploy it with a single command, and Lambda automatically handles scaling, multi-region distribution, and active CPU billing. No adapters, no infrastructure to manage, and no framework lock-in.

With this launch, AWS Lambda now offers three distinct form factors, each built on the same Firecracker isolation technology and designed for a different programming model.

Lambda Event Functions are what you already know as Lambda functions. They use the event-driven, single-concurrent handler model with wall-clock billing. We’re introducing the “Event Functions” name to highlight that programming model: your function receives an event, processes it, and returns a response. The event-driven programming model is ideal for event processing, queue consumers, and invocations triggered by other AWS services.

Lambda Web Functions use an HTTP-native programming model with multi-concurrent execution and active CPU billing. Your code listens on a port and handles standard HTTP requests. That programming model is ideal for web applications, API backends, and interactive HTTP workloads where multiple concurrent requests and I/O-heavy processing are the norm.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Lambda MicroVMs provide isolated, stateful sandbox environments with customer-managed lifecycles for running untrusted or user-generated code.

The three complement each other. An application might use Event Functions for asynchronous backend processing, Web Functions for the user-facing API and server-side rendering layer, and MicroVMs for interactive code execution features, all within the same AWS account and sharing the same operational model.

Why Web Functions
Modern web applications need to serve global audiences with fast, consistent response times while giving developers the freedom to use standard frameworks and iterate quickly. Building this today typically requires assembling multiple infrastructure components, configuring multi-region deployments, setting up latency-based routing, and tuning billing models to avoid paying for I/O wait. Developers often find themselves adapting their application code to fit a specific compute model rather than deploying the HTTP server they already have.

Lambda Web Functions removes this complexity. Each execution environment handles multiple requests simultaneously (up to 128 concurrent requests per environment), which means a burst of incoming traffic can share warm environments instead of mapping each request to a new one. Web Functions meter the CPU time your code uses, so time spent waiting on a database query or an API call consumes little CPU. Memory is metered for as long as the execution environment exists. For I/O-heavy web workloads like server-side rendering, API backends, and AI inference endpoints streaming token responses, this can reduce compute costs.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

Let’s try it out
To get started, I wrote a simple Express.js server. This is the same code I run locally with
node index.js
, no Lambda-specific adapters or wrappers required.

import express from 'express';

const app = express();
const [host, port] = process.env.AWS_LAMBDA_HTTP_ENDPOINT.split(':');

app.get('/', (req, res) => {
  res.json({ message: 'Hello from Lambda Web Functions!' });
});

app.listen(port, host, () => {
  console.log(`Server running on port ${port}`);
});

The only difference from running locally is the
AWS_LAMBDA_HTTP_ENDPOINT
environment variable, which Lambda sets to the host and port your server must listen on. To run locally, set it yourself, for example
AWS_LAMBDA_HTTP_ENDPOINT=127.0.0.1:3000 node index.js
.

With my code ready, I deployed using the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI):

aws lambda-web deploy --name my-web-app --code ./my-app

One command. No prior resource setup. The CLI bundled my source, created the Web Function, published its first revision, attached a Web Function endpoint, and returned a live HTTPS URL in under a minute.

Read moreGone Phishing | cPanel Blog

A revision is an immutable snapshot of the code I deployed. The endpoint is the HTTPS URL that routes traffic to a revision, or splits traffic across revisions. Those are the resources I use to iterate and to control how traffic moves to new code.

I tested it immediately:

$ curl https://<domain-id>.<shard-id>.lambda-web.us-east-1.on.aws/
{"message":"Hello from Lambda Web Functions!"}

Next, I wanted my application to serve users in Europe and Asia with lower latency. I redeployed with multiple regions:

aws lambda-web deploy --name my-web-app --code ./my-app
    --regions us-east-1,eu-west-1,ap-northeast-1

Lambda Web Functions replicated my code to all three regions and configured latency-based routing automatically. Each request now routes to the Region with the lowest latency for the caller, on a best-effort basis, through one global URL (
<domain-id>.lambda-web.global.on.aws
).

When I updated my code and ran the same deploy command again, the CLI detected the existing function, uploaded the new revision, and pointed the endpoint at it. Total turnaround from code change to live: seconds.

For production workflows that require a more gradual rollout, I can shift traffic between revisions with a single API call:

aws lambda-web update-web-function-endpoint
    --function-name my-web-app
    --endpoint-name dev
    --auto-deployment-mode Disabled
    --revision-weights '[{"revisionId": "<current-revision-id>", "weight": 90}, {"revisionId": "<new-revision-id>", "weight": 10}]'

This sends 90% of endpoint traffic to the current revision and 10% to the new one, giving me a canary deployment without additional tooling.

Better together with Amazon CloudFront
For applications that combine static and dynamic content, Web Functions works well alongside Amazon CloudFront. You can select a Web Function endpoint as the origin for your CloudFront distribution. Static assets are served from the cache while dynamic requests route to your Web Function, giving you CDN performance for static content with serverless compute for the dynamic parts.

Web Functions improves the private-origin experience with CloudFront. With this launch, you attach CloudFront origin access control (OAC) to a Web Function endpoint instead. CloudFront signs requests to the origin, and the endpoint allows only your distribution to invoke it. You get the same private-origin pattern CloudFront already provides for Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), without exposing the endpoint or adding custom authorization to your app.

Now available
AWS Lambda Web Functions is available today in US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Europe (Ireland). Web Functions run Node.js 24 (nodejs24.x) on Arm64 at launch and support Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) connectivity, allowing your function to access resources that exist within a VPC.

To get started, deploy your first Web Function in under a minute:

aws lambda-web deploy --name hello-world --hello-world

For pricing details, visit the AWS Lambda pricing page. To learn more, see the Lambda Web Functions documentation.

On May 19, 2026, Valkey 9.1 introduced a redesigned I/O threading model that improves throughput by up to 17% and reduces memory usage for strings under 128 bytes by up to 20%. Since June 23, 2026, you can run Valkey 9.1 in Amazon ElastiCache for node-based clusters, delivering higher throughput, improved memory efficiency, and stronger access control for multi-tenant workloads.

You can connect with AWS contributors at upcoming OpenSearch and Valkey community events.

Last week’s launches
Here are some launches that got my attention:

Amazon EC2 application status checks: Amazon EC2 introduces a new status check that helps you detect and respond to application-level issues on your EC2 instances. With application status checks, EC2 monitors applications to detect issues such as a web server that has stopped accepting requests, a Docker daemon that is not running, an incorrect networking configuration, or a network interface that is no longer passing traffic. To learn more, visit the Application status checks documentation.

AWS IAM role manager to set up IAM roles automatically: You can use a new role manager that automatically sets up the IAM roles your AWS services need. When you set up a supported service in the console, role manager creates a default role on your behalf, or reuses one that already exists in your account if it matches the required permissions. Role manager supports six AWS service consoles at launch. To learn more, read How AWS IAM role manager rethinks the starting point for IAM roles.

OpenAI Daybreak available to eligible customers on Amazon Bedrock: Daybreak is the cyber defense initiative from OpenAI that gives defenders governed access to frontier AI for cybersecurity work.
AWS WAF now includes AI traffic monetization capability that gives digital content owners and publishers a way to charge AI bots and agents for access to protected web content directly at the network edge. The capability helps content owners and publishers set per-request pricing by content path, bot category, or verification tier without modifying their origin infrastructure or writing application code. Content owners can define granular access policies per agent type, collect payments in stablecoins to their preferred wallet, and monitor revenue and bot activity from a single dashboard.

AI bot traffic now accounts for more than 50% of web traffic for many content providers, with AI-specific crawlers growing more than 300% year-over-year. Unlike traditional search engine crawlers, which index content and return measurable referral traffic back to publisher websites, AI bots consume the same content to generate summaries and responses in AI interfaces, with little to no traffic sent back to the original source. Publishers bear the infrastructure costs of serving that traffic without the page views, ad impressions, or subscription conversions that typically offset those costs. AWS WAF Bot Control already gives customers visibility into bot activity and the ability to block or rate-limit traffic, but setting pricing and collecting payment from AI agents has not been possible until now. AI traffic monetization is a new Bot Control capability that closes that gap, giving content owners and publishers a way to configure pricing rules directly through the AWS WAF console and collect payments from AI agents through third-party payment integrations, without building custom payment infrastructure or negotiating individual licensing agreements. Payment settlement and verification flows are provided by Coinbase’s x402 Facilitator. Integration with Stripe for direct account payments and Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) support is coming soon.

Getting Started with AI Traffic Monetization

Before configuring monetization, confirm that AWS WAF Bot Control is enabled at Common or Targeted level on the web ACL associated with your CloudFront distribution. Bot Control provides the agent classification that monetization rules depend on. If you have not set this up yet, visit Adding the AWS WAF Bot Control managed rule group to your web ACL documentation. In the AWS Management Console, go to WAF & Shield and choose Protection packs (web ACLs) in the left navigation pane to get started.

A protection pack is the core configuration unit for AI traffic monetization. It defines which content paths are monetized, what each agent verification tier is charged, which payment methods you accept, and what license terms apply. To create one, choose Create protection pack (web ACL).

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

In Tell us about your app, select one or more app categories that describe your content (for example, Content & publishing systems, E-commerce & transaction platforms, or Enterprise & business applications), and choose an App focus. AWS WAF uses these selections to recommend suitable security protections for your configuration.

In Select resources to protect, choose Add resources to associate regional or global resources such as CloudFront distributions with this protection pack. You can skip this step and add resources later.

In Choose initial protections, select from AWS WAF managed rule packages based on your app category and resource selections. You can also choose individual rules instead of packages.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

In Name and describe, provide a name and optional description for the protection pack.

Optionally, expand Customize protection pack (web ACL) to configure additional settings including pricing tiers, payment methods, content scope, and license terms.

When finished, choose Create protection pack (web ACL).

Once your protection pack is in place, review the AI traffic analysis dashboard to understand the impact of AI bot traffic on your content before setting your pricing strategy. In the WAF & Shield console, go to AI traffic analysis in the left navigation pane. Select your protection pack (web ACL) from the dropdown to populate the dashboard.

Read moreGone Phishing | cPanel Blog

The AI traffic analysis dashboard breaks down traffic into four categories visible in the bot traffic overview panel: All bot requests, AI bot requests, Verified AI bot traffic, and Unverified AI bot traffic. The dashboard surfaces infrastructure impact metrics including bandwidth consumed, estimated monthly cost, and peak request rates. A per-path heatmap shows which content paths receive the most AI bot activity by hour, giving you the data you need to make informed pricing decisions.

AWS WAF Bot Control classifies over 650 distinct AI bot and agent types including GPTBot, Claude-Web, and Perplexity-Bot, and assigns each a verification tier:

Verified — Agent identity confirmed through Web Bot Auth (WBA) Ed25519 cryptographic signature, or sourced from a documented IP range with a known set of user-agents and domain names.

Unverified — Agent recognized through user-agent matching, behavioral fingerprinting, and IP reputation, but identity not cryptographically confirmed.

Once you have reviewed your traffic patterns, return to Protection packs (web ACLs), select your protection pack from the list, and choose Configure AI monetization from the right panel to set pricing and access policies. Each protection pack defines the pricing, agent policies, accepted payment methods, and license terms that apply to a defined set of content paths. You can create multiple protection packs and apply different pricing to different content zones within the same distribution. Once created, associate the protection pack with your web ACL by opening the web ACL and choosing Add protection pack.

For each agent verification tier within the pack, you can assign one of six actions: Monetize (return a 402 with pricing), Allow (grant free access), Block (deny access entirely), Count (log without charging), CAPTCHA (present a puzzle to verify a human sender), or Challenge (run a silent check to verify the client is a browser, not a bot).

In the Edit monetization configuration page, configure the following:

Under Payment settlement, select one or more blockchain networks for stablecoin payments. Any wallet address on the supported networks is accepted, whether self-managed or hosted by a wallet provider such as Coinbase. For each network, provide your wallet address and set a Base price per page in USDC. You can add multiple networks using Add network. AWS does not process payments or take a fee on content revenue; disbursement is self-managed or managed by your wallet provider.

When a Monetize rule matches an incoming request, AWS WAF returns an HTTP 402 Payment Required response. The response body contains a machine-readable price manifest in JSON format using the x402 open protocol for machine-to-machine payments. The manifest includes the content price in USDC, accepted blockchain networks such as Base and Solana, the destination wallet address, the maximum payment timeout, and the payment scheme.

Any x402-compatible agent runtime can complete this flow autonomously. The client submits a signed payment authorization on their payment network of choice. AWS WAF verifies it, fetches the content, integrates with third-party facilitator services for settling the payment on-chain, and serves the response.

Note that the Monetize action is supported exclusively for web ACLs associated with Amazon CloudFront distributions. Adding a Monetize rule to a regional web ACL is not supported.

Since the Currency mode toggle is available directly in the monetization configuration page, you can switch between Real and Test mode at any time. Before going live, use test mode on non-production traffic to validate pricing, wallet configuration, and x402 payment flows. Note that test mode still enforces x402 payments, but those payments can be made on testnets such as Base Sepolia or Solana Devnet using test funds obtained from faucets such as faucet.circle.com. To activate test mode, toggle Currency mode to Test in your protection pack configuration. AWS WAF returns real price manifests and runs the full payment flow identically to production on the configured test chain. All events are logged with
CurrencyMode: TEST
. When satisfied with the configuration, toggle Currency mode back to Real to begin processing real payments.

Once you have switched Currency mode to Real, navigate to AI access monetization in the left navigation pane to track monetization outcomes in real time. Note that the AI access monetization dashboard only reflects activity from real currency mode and does not display test transactions.

The Revenue dashboard shows Total revenue, revenue broken down by Verified bots and Unverified bots, and Avg. per request. The Top revenue sources panel groups earnings by bot category, and the AI access patterns panel ranks content paths by revenue generated. Use the Settlements tab to reconcile payments by provider and review payment method distribution and failed payment attempts.

Now Available

AI traffic monetization is available now for Amazon CloudFront customers at no additional charge beyond standard AWS WAF pricing. The capability is available in all edge locations where AWS WAF web ACLs are associated with Amazon CloudFront distributions.

As many of you are, I’m a parent. And like you, I think about the world I’m building for my children. That’s part of why today’s launch matters for many of us. I’m excited to announce the launch of the AWS Sustainability console, a standalone service that consolidates all AWS sustainability reporting and resources in one place.

With the The Climate Pledge, Amazon set a goal in 2019 to reach net-zero carbon across our operations by 2040. That commitment shapes how AWS builds its data centers and services. In addition, AWS is also committed to helping you measure and reduce the environmental footprint of your own workloads. The AWS Sustainability console is the latest step in that direction.

The AWS Sustainability console builds on the Customer Carbon Footprint Tool (CCFT), which lives inside the AWS Billing console, and introduces a new set of capabilities for which you’ve been asking.

Until now, accessing your carbon footprint data required billing-level permissions. That created a practical problem: sustainability professionals and reporting teams often don’t have (and shouldn’t need) access to cost and billing data. Getting the right people access to the right data meant navigating permission structures that weren’t designed with sustainability workflows in mind. The AWS Sustainability console has its own permissions model, independent of the Billing console. Sustainability professionals can now get direct access to emissions data without requiring billing permissions to be granted alongside it.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

The console includes Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions attributed to your AWS usage and shows you a breakdown by AWS Region, service, such as Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). The underlying data and methodology haven’t changed with this launch; these are the same as the ones used by the CCFT. We changed how you can access and work with the data.

As sustainability reporting requirements have grown more complex, teams need more flexibility accessing and working with their emissions data. The console now includes a Reports page where you can download preset monthly and annual carbon emissions reports covering both market-based method (MBM) and location-based method (LBM) data. You can also build a custom comma-separated values (CSV) report by selecting which fields to include, the time granularity, and other filters.

If your organization’s fiscal year doesn’t align with the calendar year, you can now configure the console to match your reporting period. When that is set, all data views and exports reflect your fiscal year and quarters, which removes a common friction point for finance and sustainability teams working in parallel.

You can also use the new API or the AWS SDKs to integrate emissions data into your own reporting pipelines, dashboards, or compliance workflows. This is useful for teams that need to pull data for a specific month across a large number of accounts without setting up a data export or for organizations that need to establish custom account groupings that don’t align with their existing AWS Organizations structure.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

You can read about the latest features released and methodology updates directly on the Release notes page on the Learn more tab.

Lets see it in action

To show you the Sustainability console, I opened the AWS Management Console and searched for “sustainability” in the search bar at the top of the screen.

It shows the emissions by scope, expressed in the MBM and the LBM. On the right side of the screen, you can adjust the date range or filter by service, Regions, and more.

For those unfamiliar: Scope 1 includes direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (for example, data center fuel use); Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from the production of purchased energy (with MBM accounting for energy attribute certificates and LBM using average local grid emissions); and Scope 3 includes other indirect emissions across the value chain, such as server manufacturing and data center construction. You can read more about this in our methodology document, which was independently verified by Apex, a third-party consultant.

I can also use API or AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI) to programmatically pull the emissions data.

Here are the notable launches and updates from last week that can help you build, scale, and innovate on AWS.

Last week’s launches

Here are the launches that got my attention this week.

Let’s start with news related to compute and networking infrastructure:

Introducing Amazon EC2 C8id, M8id, and R8id instances: These new Amazon EC2 C8id, M8id, and R8id instances are powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors. These instances offer up to 43% higher performance and 3.3x more memory bandwidth compared to previous generation instances.

AWS Network Firewall announces new price reductions: The service has added the hourly and data processing discounts on NAT Gateways that are service-chained with Network Firewall secondary endpoints. Additionally, AWS Network Firewall has removed additional data processing charges for Advanced Inspection, which enables Transport Layer Security (TLS) inspection of encrypted network traffic.

Amazon ECS adds Network Load Balancer support for Linear and Canary deployments: Applications that commonly use NLB, such as those requiring TCP/UDP-based connections, low latency, long-lived connections, or static IP addresses, can take advantage of managed, incremental traffic shifting natively from ECS when rolling out updates.

AWS Config now supports 30 new resource types: These range across key services including Amazon EKS, Amazon Q, and AWS IoT. This expansion provides greater coverage over your AWS environment, enabling you to more effectively discover, assess, audit, and remediate an even broader range of resources.

Amazon DynamoDB global tables now support replication across multiple AWS accounts: DynamoDB global tables are a fully managed, serverless, multi-Region, and multi-active database. With this new capability, you can replicate tables across AWS accounts and Regions to improve resiliency, isolate workloads at the account level, and apply distinct security and governance controls.

Amazon RDS now provides an enhanced console experience to connect to a database: The new console experience provides ready-made code snippets for Java, Python, Node.js, and other programming languages as well as tools like the
psql
command line utility. These code snippets are automatically adjusted based on your database’s authentication settings. For example, if your cluster uses IAM authentication, the generated code snippets will use token-based authentication to connect to the database. The console experience also includes integrated CloudShell access, offering the ability to connect to your databases directly from within the RDS console.

Then, I noticed three news items related to security and how you authenticate on AWS:

AWS Builder ID now supports Sign in with Apple: AWS Builder ID, your profile for accessing AWS applications including AWS Builder Center, AWS Training and Certification, AWS re:Post, AWS Startups, and Kiro, now supports sign-in with Apple as a social login provider. This expansion of sign-in options builds on the existing sign-in with Google capability, providing Apple users with a streamlined way to access AWS resources without managing separate credentials on AWS.

AWS STS now supports validation of select identity provider specific claims from Google, GitHub, CircleCI and OCI: You can reference these custom claims as condition keys in IAM role trust policies and resource control policies, expanding your ability to implement fine-grained access control for federated identities and help you establish your data perimeters. This enhancement builds upon IAM’s existing OIDC federation capabilities, which allow you to grant temporary AWS credentials to users authenticated through external OIDC-compatible identity providers.

AWS Management Console now displays Account Name on the Navigation bar for easier account identification: You now have an easy way to identify your accounts at a glance. You can now quickly distinguish between accounts visually using the account name that appears in the navigation bar for all authorized users in that account.

Amazon CloudFront announces mutual TLS support for origins: Now with origin mTLS support, you can implement a standardized, certificate-based authentication approach that eliminates operational burden. This enables organizations to enforce strict authentication for their proprietary content, ensuring that only verified CloudFront distributions can establish connections to backend infrastructure ranging from AWS origins and on-premises servers to third-party cloud providers and external CDNs.

Claude Opus 4.6 now available in Amazon Bedrock: Opus 4.6 is Anthropic’s most intelligent model to date and a premier model for coding, enterprise agents, and professional work. Claude Opus 4.6 brings advanced capabilities to Amazon Bedrock customers, including industry-leading performance for agentic tasks, complex coding projects, and enterprise-grade workflows that require deep reasoning and reliability.

Structured outputs now available in Amazon Bedrock: Amazon Bedrock now supports structured outputs, a capability that provides consistent, machine-readable responses from foundation models that adhere to your defined JSON schemas. Instead of prompting for valid JSON and adding extra checks in your application, you can specify the format you want and receive responses that match it—making production workflows more predictable and resilient.

Upcoming AWS events

Check your calendars so that you can sign up for this upcoming event:

AWS Community Day Romania (April 23–24, 2026): This community-led AWS event brings together developers, architects, entrepreneurs, and students for more than 10 professional sessions delivered by AWS Heroes, Solutions Architects, and industry experts. Attendees can expect expert-led technical talks, insights from speakers with global conference experience, and opportunities to connect during dedicated networking breaks, all hosted at a premium venue designed to support collaboration and community engagement.

If you’re looking for more ways to stay connected beyond this event, join the AWS Builder Center to learn, build, and connect with builders in the AWS community.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

The loft is open in Tel Aviv until Wednesday, November 19. If you’re in the area, check the list of sessions, workshops, and hackathons today.

If you are a serverless developer, last week was really rich with news. Let’s start with these.

Last week’s launches

Here are the launches that got my attention this week:

AWS Lambda officially supports Rust , AWS Lambda supports Java 25, and AWS Lambda adds an experimental runtime interface client for Swift – What a busy time for the Lambda service team! The support for the Rust programming language is now generally available. Although the runtime interface client existed for years, it has just been graduated to version 1.0.0. My colleagues Julian and Darko wrote a blog post to showcase the benefits of using Rust for your Lambda functions. Java 25 also has changes that make Lambda functions written in Java more efficient. My colleague Lefteris wrote a blog post to describe these benefits.

AWS Lambda announces Provisioned Mode for SQS event source mapping – This provides you with the benefits to optimize throughput and handle traffic spikes by provisioning event polling resources.

Amazon EventBridge introduces enhanced visual rule builder – The Amazon EventBridge enhanced visual rule builder simplifies event-driven application development with an intuitive interface, comprehensive event catalog, and integration with the EventBridge Schema Registry.

AWS Service Reference Information now supports SDK Operation to Action mapping – Besides the serverless news, this is the biggest announcement of the week in my opinion. The service reference information now includes which operations are supported by AWS services and which IAM permissions are needed to call a given operation. This will help you answer questions such as “I want to call a specific AWS service operation, which IAM permissions do I need?” You can automate the retrieval of service reference information through a simple JSON based API.

AWS Network Load Balancer (NLB) now supports QUIC protocol in passthrough mode – This provides ultra-low latency traffic forwarding with session stickiness using QUIC Connection IDs. This capability reduces application latency by 25-30% for mobile-first applications through minimized handshakes and connection resilience. NLB operates in passthrough mode, forwarding QUIC traffic directly to targets while maintaining customer control over TLS certificates and end-to-end encryption. The blog post has the details.

Application Load Balancer (ALB) support client credential flow with JWT verification – This one is important for API developers too. This simplifies the deployment of secure machine-to-machine (M2M) and service-to-service (S2S) communications. This provides ALB with the ability to verify JWTs, reducing architectural complexity and simplifying security implementation.

AWS KMS now supports Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EdDSA) – This capability provides 128-bit security equivalent to NIST P-256 with faster signing performance and compact sizes (64-byte signatures, 32-byte public keys). Ed25519 is ideal for IoT devices and blockchain applications requiring small key and signature sizes.

Amazon DCV now supports Amazon EC2 Mac instances – This provides high-performance remote desktop access with 4K resolution and 60 FPS performance. You can connect from Windows, Linux, macOS, or web clients with features including time zone redirection and audio output.

Amazon Linux 2023 version 2025110 is released – It now includes packages for Mountpoint for Amazon S3, the Swift 6.2.1 toolchain, and Node.js 24. Installing Swift on Amazon Linux 2023 virtual machines or containers is now as easy as
sudo dnf install -y swiftlang
.

Additional updates

Here are some additional projects, blog posts, and news items that I found interesting:

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service gets independent affirmation of its zero operator access design – Amazon EKS offers a zero operator access posture. AWS personnel cannot access your content. This is achieved through a combination of AWS Nitro System-based instances, restricted administrative APIs, and end-to-end encryption. An independent review by NCC Group confirmed the effectiveness of these security measures.

Make your web apps hands-free with Amazon Nova Sonic – Amazon Nova Sonic, a foundation model from AAmazon Bedrock, provides you with the ability to create natural, low-latency, bidirectional speech conversations for applications. This provides users with the ability to collaborate with applications through voice and embedded intelligence, unlocking new interaction patterns and enhancing usability. This blog post demonstrates a reference app, Smart Todo App. It shows how voice can be integrated to provide a hands-free experience for task management.

AWS X-Ray SDKs & Daemon migration to OpenTelemetry – AWS X-Ray is transitioning to OpenTelemetry as its primary instrumentation standard for application tracing. OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation solutions are recommended for producing traces from applications and sending them to AWS X-Ray. X-Ray’s existing console experience and functionality continue to be fully supported and remains unchanged by this transition.

Powering the world’s largest events: How Amazon CloudFront delivers at scale – Amazon CloudFront achieved a record-breaking peak of 268 terabits per second on November 1, 2025, during major game delivery workloads—enough bandwidth to simultaneously stream live sports in HD to approximately 45 million concurrent viewers. This milestone demonstrates the CloudFront massive scale, powered by 750+ edge locations across 440+ cities globally and 1,140+ embedded PoPs within 100+ ISPs, with the latest generation delivering 3x the performance of previous versions.

Kia ora! Today, I’m pleased to share the general availability of the AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region with three Availability Zones and API name
ap-southeast-6
. With the new Region, customers can now run workloads and securely store data in New Zealand while serving end users with even lower latency.

The new AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region will help organizations run their applications and serve end users while maintaining data residency in New Zealand. The NZD $7.5 billion Amazon Web Services (AWS) investment to establish an AWS Region in New Zealand is expected to contribute NZD $10.8 billion to New Zealand’s gross domestic product (GDP) which is estimated to create 1,000 new jobs annually and will enable Kiwi organizations of all sizes to innovate and scale faster using the most secure and resilient infrastructure.

AWS in New Zealand
Since we opened our first office in New Zealand in 2013, we’ve been continuously expanding our infrastructure to better serve Kiwi customers:

Amazon Prime Day 2025 was the biggest Amazon Prime Day shopping event ever, setting records for both sales volume and total items sold during the 4-day event. Prime members saved billions while shopping Amazon’s millions of deals during the event.

This year marked a significant transformation in the Prime Day experience through advancements in the generative AI offerings from Amazon and AWS. Customers used Alexa+—the Amazon next-generation personal assistant now available in early access to millions of customers—along with the AI-powered shopping assistant, Rufus, and AI Shopping Guides. These features, built on more than 15 years of cloud innovation and machine learning expertise from AWS, combined with deep retail and consumer experience from Amazon, helped customers quickly discover deals and get product information, complementing the fast, free delivery that Prime members enjoy year-round.

As part of our annual tradition to tell you about how AWS powered Prime Day for record-breaking sales, I want to share the services and chart-topping metrics from AWS that made your amazing shopping experience possible.

Prime Day 2025 – all the numbers
During the weeks leading up to big shopping events like Prime Day, Amazon fulfillment centers and delivery stations work to get ready and ensure operations run efficiently and safely. For example, the Amazon automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) operates a global fleet of industrial mobile robots that move goods around Amazon fulfillment centers.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

AWS Outposts, a fully managed service that extends the AWS experience on-premises, powers software applications that manage the command-and-control of Amazon ASRS and supports same-day and next-day deliveries through low-latency processing of critical robotic commands.

During Prime Day 2025, AWS Outposts at one of the largest Amazon fulfillment centers sent more than 524 million commands to over 7,000 robots, reaching peak volumes of 8 million commands per hour—a 160 percent increase compared to Prime Day 2024.

Here are some more interesting, mind-blowing metrics:

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) – During Prime Day 2025, AWS Graviton, a family of processors designed to deliver the best price performance for cloud workloads running in Amazon EC2, powered more than 40 percent of the Amazon EC2 compute used by Amazon.com. Amazon also deployed over 87,000 AWS Inferentia and AWS Trainium chips – custom silicon chips for deep learning and generative AI training and inference – to power Amazon Rufus for Prime Day.

Amazon SageMaker AI — Amazon SageMaker AI, a fully managed service that brings together a broad set of tools to enable high-performance, low-cost machine learning (ML), processed more than 626 billion inference requests during Prime Day 2025.

Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) and AWS Fargate– Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) is a fully managed container orchestration service that works seamlessly with AWS Fargate, a serverless compute engine for containers. During Prime Day 2025, Amazon ECS launched an average of 18.4 million tasks per day on AWS Fargate, representing a 77 percent increase from the previous year’s Prime Day average.

AWS Fault Injection Service (AWS FIS) – We ran over 6,800 AWS FIS experiments—over eight times more than we conducted in 2024—to test resilience and ensure Amazon.com remains highly available on Prime Day. This significant increase was made possible by two improvements: new Amazon ECS support for network fault injection experiments on AWS Fargate, and the integration of FIS testing in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

AWS Lambda – AWS Lambda, a serverless compute service that lets you run code without managing infrastructure, handled over 1.7 trillion invocations per day during Prime Day 2025.

Amazon API Gateway – During Prime Day 2025, Amazon API Gateway, a fully managed service that makes it easy to create, maintain, and secure APIs at any scale, processed over 1 trillion internal service requests—a 30 percent increase in requests on average per day compared to Prime Day 2024.

Amazon CloudFront – Amazon CloudFront, a content delivery network (CDN) service that securely delivers content with low latency and high transfer speeds, delivered over 3 trillion HTTP requests during the global week of Prime Day 2025, a 43 percent increase in requests compared to Prime Day 2024.

Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) – During Prime Day 2025, Amazon EBS, our high-performance block storage service, peaked at 20.3 trillion I/O operations, moving up to an exabyte of data daily.

Amazon Aurora – On Prime Day, Amazon Aurora, a relational database management system (RDBMS) built for high performance and availability at global scale for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DSQL, processed 500 billion transactions, stored 4,071 terabytes of data, and transferred 999 terabytes of data.

Amazon DynamoDB – Amazon DynamoDB, a serverless, fully managed, distributed NoSQL database, powers multiple high-traffic Amazon properties and systems including Alexa, the Amazon.com sites, and all Amazon fulfillment centers. Over the course of Prime Day, these sources made tens of trillions of calls to the DynamoDB API. DynamoDB maintained high availability while delivering single-digit millisecond responses and peaking at 151 million requests per second.

Amazon ElastiCache – During Prime Day, Amazon ElastiCache, a fully managed caching service delivering microsecond latency, peaked at serving over 1.5 quadrillion daily requests and over 1.4 trillion requests in a minute.

Amazon Kinesis Data Streams – Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, a fully managed serverless data streaming service, processed a peak of 807 million records per second during Prime Day 2025.

Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) – During Prime Day 2025, Amazon SQS – a fully managed message queuing service for microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications – set a new peak traffic record of 166 million messages per second.

Amazon GuardDuty – During Prime Day 2025, Amazon GuardDuty, an intelligent threat detection service, monitored an average of 8.9 trillion log events per hour, a 48.9 percent increase from last year’s Prime Day.

AWS CloudTrail – AWS CloudTrail, which tracks user activity and API usage on AWS, as well as in hybrid and multicloud environments, processed over 2.5 trillion events during Prime Day 2025, compared to 976 billion events in 2024.

Amazon DocumentDB – Amazon DocumentDB Serverless is now available offering an on-demand, fully managed MongoDB API-compatible document database service. Read more in Channy’s post.

Amazon Q Developer CLI – You can now create custom agents to help you customize the CLI agent to be more effective when performing specialized tasks such as code reviews and troubleshooting. More info in this blog.

Amazon Bedrock Data Automation – Now supports DOC/DOCX files for document processing and H.265 encoded video files for video processing, making it easier to build multimodal data analysis pipelines.

Amazon DynamoDB – Introduced the Amazon DynamoDB data modeling Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool, providing a structured, natural-language-driven workflow to translate application requirements into DynamoDB data models.

AWS Lambda – Response streaming now supports a default maximum response payload size of 200 MB, 10 times higher than before. Lambda response streaming helps you build applications that progressively stream response payloads back to clients, improving performance for latency sensitive workloads by reducing time to first byte (TTFB) performance.

Powertools for AWS – Introducing v2 of Powertools for AWS Lambda (Java), a developer toolkit that helps you implement serverless best practices and directly translates AWS Well-Architected recommendations.

Amazon SNS – Now supports three additional message filtering operators: wildcard matching, anything-but wildcard matching, and anything-but prefix matching. SNS now also supports message group IDs in standard topics, enabling fair queue functionality for subscribed Amazon SQS standard queues.

Amazon CloudFront – Now offers two capabilities to enhance origin timeout controls: a response completion timeout and support for custom response timeout values for Amazon S3 origins. These capabilities give you more control over how to handle slow or unresponsive origins.

Amazon EC2 – You are now able to force terminate EC2 instances that are stuck in the shutting-down state.

Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling – You can now use AWS Lambda functions as notification targets for EC2 Auto Scaling lifecycle hooks. For example, you can use this to trigger custom actions when an instance enters a wait state.

Amazon SES – You can now provision isolated tenants within a single SES account and apply automated reputation policies to manage email sending.

AWS Management Console – You can now view your AWS Applications in the Service menu in the console navigation bar. With this view you can see all your Applications and choose an Application to see all its associated resources.

Amazon Connect – Amazon Connect UI builder now features an updated user interface to reduce the complexity to build structured workflows. It also simplified forecast editing with a new UI experience that improves planning accuracy. The Contact Control Panel now features an updated and more intuitive user interface. Amazon Connect also introduced new actions and workflows into the agent workspace. These actions are powered by third-party applications running in the background.

AWS Clean Rooms – Now publishes events to Amazon EventBridge for status changes in a Clean Rooms collaboration, further simplifying how companies and their partners analyze and collaborate on their collective datasets without revealing or copying one another’s underlying data.

AWS Entity Resolution – Introduced rule-based fuzzy matching using Levenshtein Distance, Cosine Similarity, and Soundex algorithms to help resolve consumer records across fragmented, inconsistent, and often incomplete datasets.
