Living in the Netherlands, I spend a fair amount of time on trains, and that is usually where I catch up on what the builder community is writing. Until now, that meant opening a laptop or squinting at a browser tab on my phone. This week I found myself scrolling through trending articles and checking a workshop from the AWS Builder Center mobile app while waiting for a delayed train, and it made those spare twenty minutes very useful. That is why I am glad to open this week with the Builder Center mobile app.

AWS Builder Center is now available as a mobile app on iOS and Android, extending the experience beyond desktop and web. Using your AWS Builder ID, you stay signed in across sessions and can browse trending articles, access 600+ AWS Skill Builder courses, and manage hands-on workshops with free sandbox environments from your mobile device. You can follow AWS Heroes, Community Builders, and User Group Leaders, check Builder Loft event calendars on the go, and receive push notifications for subscribed topics and communities. The app also supports the Wishlist feature for submitting product feedback directly to AWS teams. It is available worldwide on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Builder Center also added two features this week. Polls give you a way to ask the community a question from the Home feed: write a question, add 2 to 5 answer options, set a deadline, and people vote, with results updating live and discussion happening in the comments. Votes are anonymous, and creators see aggregate counts and percentages only. Separately, the Zero to Shipped hackathon is open from September 18 to October 2. You connect your coding agent to AWS, build a real application, and ship it live on AWS for a chance to win a share of a $28,000 prize pool. Five winning projects each receive $5,000 in AWS credits and an AWS Builder swag bundle.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Last week’s launches
Here is what else happened this week.

Amazon Connect Talent is now generally available – Amazon Connect Talent is an AI-powered hiring solution for talent acquisition teams managing hiring at scale. Informed by decades of Amazon hiring science, it uses AI agents to conduct structured voice interviews, administer evidence-based assessments, and score candidates consistently, so recruiters can focus on final decisions. Candidates interview 24/7 from any device, and recruiters review scores, transcripts, and detailed evaluations the next morning. All candidate data is anonymized during AI evaluation, each competency is scored against a rubric with every score tied to specific evidence from the interview, and recruiters keep final decision authority over every hire. General availability includes competency-based assessments, AI-led voice interviews with adaptive questioning, a brand-customizable mobile-first candidate portal, and admin onboarding tools.

Amazon Corretto 27 is now generally available – Amazon Corretto 27, a Feature Release version of the no-cost, multi-platform distribution of OpenJDK, is now available for download on Linux, Windows, and macOS, with support through April 2027. Notable features include G1 as the default garbage collector across all environments (JEP 523), post-quantum hybrid key exchange for TLS 1.3 (JEP 527), compact object headers by default for a smaller memory footprint (JEP 534), and JFR in-process data redaction to remove sensitive data from Java Flight Recorder recordings before they leave the JVM (JEP 536). It also continues previews of enhanced pattern matching, structured concurrency, and lazy constants, along with the Vector API incubator.

Kimi K3 by Moonshot AI is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock – Kimi K3 is now available on Amazon Bedrock for coding and knowledge work. According to Moonshot AI, Kimi K3 is its most capable model and the first open model to reach 2.8 trillion parameters. It combines native vision capabilities with a 1-million-token context window, making it well suited to long-running coding sessions across large repositories, multi-document analysis, and extended agent workflows. Moonshot AI reports an approximate 2.5x improvement in scaling efficiency over Kimi K2. Kimi K3 is the first open-weight model on Amazon Bedrock to support explicit prompt caching, which helps reduce latency and input costs when reusing context across model calls.

AWS reimagines the getting started experience – We announced a new simplified experience for builders starting a new project. Instead of completing configuration tasks first, you start with sensible defaults: sign up using an existing identity from providers including Google, GitHub, and Apple, and for most new customers no credit card is required, with $100 in free credits as part of the AWS Free Tier. AWS organizes your work in a project, which contains an AWS account and sharing settings, and applies security controls for you. You can invite collaborators by email without setting up IAM users, set a monthly spend limit starting at $20, and activate advanced AWS features later at no additional cost with no migration. The experience is gradually rolling out to new customers.

New low-cost burstable Amazon EC2 T8i instances are generally available – Amazon EC2 T8i instances, powered by custom sixth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Granite Rapids), are among the lowest-cost EC2 instances and deliver up to 30% better price performance over previous-generation T3 instances. They are designed for low-to-moderate CPU utilization workloads such as microservices, low-traffic websites, development and testing environments, and small databases. T8i instances deliver up to 70% higher compute performance, up to 1.25x higher network bandwidth, and up to 2.4x higher Amazon EBS bandwidth compared to T3, and they use the same CPU credit system, so upgrading from T3 is straightforward.

AWS Elastic Beanstalk introduces Cluster Mode – AWS Elastic Beanstalk Cluster Mode is a new fully managed option for teams running a portfolio of applications on shared infrastructure powered by Amazon EKS. Instead of operating each application in isolation, you run multiple applications through one experience with a single operational baseline, so per-application cost decreases as your portfolio grows. You can upload source code in Java, .NET, Python, Node.js, PHP, Ruby, or Go, and Elastic Beanstalk handles containerization automatically through Cloud Native Buildpacks when needed. Cluster Mode includes production-grade deployment strategies with automatic rollback, event-driven autoscaling, AWS Secrets Manager integration, native OpenTelemetry observability, and AI-powered troubleshooting. Standard and Cluster Mode environments run side by side within the same application, so teams can migrate one environment at a time.

Other AWS news
Here are some additional posts you may find useful:

Building in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud – Two new posts cover building on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, an independent cloud for Europe that runs as a distinct partition with its own control plane, IAM, billing, console, and service endpoints, and its first Region in Brandenburg, Germany. The first post walks through architecting a secure landing zone, covering account structure and governance, identity as infrastructure as code, centralized logging, data protection, and partition-aware ARN construction that works across AWS partitions. The second announces the general availability of Gemma 4 open-weight models on the Amazon Bedrock next-generation inference engine in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, with inference staying entirely within eusc-de-east-1 under a zero data retention and zero operator access model.

The new AgentCore runtime: elastic, optimized, and consistently fast starts – We announced a new version of the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore runtime, the managed compute layer for running agents. The new runtime reclaims memory as a session releases it rather than holding it at the peak, so the bill tracks real usage over the life of a session. It also delivers consistent cold start times regardless of container image size or concurrency by preparing the environment once, snapshotting it, and restoring that snapshot for each new instance. In testing with an empty echo agent, the new runtime delivered a P75 cold start of about 2 seconds from a 200 MB image up to 2 GB, compared to roughly 5.4 to nearly 30 seconds for the original runtime.

Introducing the updated AWS Well-Architected Streaming Media Lens – We published a revised Streaming Media Lens, which provides architectural best practices for video streaming workloads. The revision expands from the original 2021 version to cover five streaming scenarios, including interactive live streaming with Amazon IVS Real-Time Streaming for up to 25,000 concurrent viewers, low-latency live streaming, and ad-supported content monetization, alongside enhanced video-on-demand and live streaming guidance. It also adds new sustainability best practices focused on reducing carbon footprint, expanded observability and incident-response frameworks, and advanced content protection with multi-layered DRM and forensic watermarking. The lens whitepaper and custom lens are available now.

Last week I had the privilege of spending three days in São Paulo with technical builders from across Latin America, brought together for a regional tech event full of deep-dive sessions, hands-on workshops, and conversations with customers and partners. What struck me most wasn’t any single session, it was the energy of a technical community that so rarely gets to be in the same room. People traded architecture ideas over coffee, sketched out solutions on whiteboards, and left with a longer list of things to try than they arrived with. It’s a good reminder that, for all the tooling we build, the community around it is what makes the technology stick.

That community spirit connects nicely to the week’s biggest infrastructure news, which is all about bringing AWS closer to where builders actually are.

Now, let’s get into this week’s AWS news…

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Headlines

AWS Local Zone in Athens, Greece: AWS has opened a new Local Zone in Athens, Greece, the second Local Zone in EMEA with support for Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS Local Snapshots, so you can store and process data within Greece to help meet local data residency requirements. The Athens Local Zone supports Amazon EC2 (C7i, M7i, and R7i instances), Amazon S3 with the One Zone-Infrequent Access storage class, Amazon EBS, Amazon ECS, and more.

With this launch, you can process and store data in-country while delivering single-digit millisecond latency to your end users. AWS Local Zones place AWS infrastructure much closer to large population and industry hubs to support workloads such as financial services, healthcare, media production, and real-time gaming. For builders in Greece, this means running latency-sensitive workloads locally and meeting in-country data residency requirements, without managing your own data center infrastructure. To learn more, visit AWS Global Infrastructure and Sustainability Blog post.

Last week’s launches

Here are some launches and updates from this past week that caught my attention:

Claude Opus 5 on AWS: You can use Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5, the most advanced Opus model yet, matching Claude Fable 5’s top-tier intelligence in many domains at Opus-tier pricing. Amazon Bedrock offers Claude Opus 5 with zero data retention (ZDR) enabled by default, giving you Opus’ top-tier intelligence while meeting your data governance requirements unlike Claude Fable 5. You have two ways to access Claude Opus 5: Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS. To learn more, visit the deep dive blog post.

AWS Lambda durable execution SDK for .NET is now generally available: You can now build resilient, long-running workflows in C# using Lambda durable functions, without implementing custom progress tracking or integrating an external orchestration service. The SDK is a natural fit for multi-step applications like payment processing pipelines, AI agent orchestration, and human-in-the-loop approvals, it checkpoints progress automatically and can pause execution for up to a year. If you’re a .NET developer building serverless workflows, this removes a lot of the plumbing you used to write by hand.

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore now delivers unified observability with traces and logs in a single log group: Amazon Bedrock AgentCore now delivers agent traces and prompts to the same Amazon CloudWatch log group as your agent’s logs. Previously, telemetry was split across destinations, trace spans went to a shared log group while prompts, inputs, and outputs went to a separate one, so debugging a single agent invocation meant searching in multiple places. You can now debug an invocation in one place, and apply fine-grained access control and customer-managed key (CMK) encryption at the individual agent level.

Amazon Connect delivers more natural agentic voice experiences: Amazon Connect now supports more natural, human-sounding agentic voice experiences across 50+ languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Thai, with over 100 new voice options and conversational improvements that make AI interactions sound more fluid. Connect’s agentic self-service lets AI agents understand, reason, and take action across voice and digital channels, adapting to a customer’s tone and sentiment. You can now build contact center experiences that feel natural to callers in far more of the languages your customers actually speak.

Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports Amazon OpenSearch: You can now query and analyze your search and log analytics data from Amazon OpenSearch directly alongside other data assets in Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio. With this connection, you can combine operational search data in OpenSearch with data from sources like Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3, and relational databases, all within a single, governed environment. It’s especially useful when you need to correlate analytical and operational workloads, such as joining application logs with transactional data to uncover insights.

Amazon CloudWatch announces coding agent insights: Amazon CloudWatch now gives engineering leaders visibility into how AI coding tools are driving value across their organization. Coding agent insights integrates with the Claude apps gateway for AWS to collect telemetry from Claude Code without additional instrumentation, and also supports agents like Codex and GitHub Copilot. As teams scale AI coding adoption, you can now measure the return on that investment with metrics built on OpenTelemetry, no custom instrumentation required.

At the New York City Summit, I delivered a workshop called Building AI architectures with AWS Serverless, and it was a lot of fun watching builders wire up agents and serverless services to solve real problems in a single afternoon. This week I am heading down to the Washington, DC Summit, which always puts a spotlight on innovation in the public sector. If you are going to be there, come say hello.

A question I hear a lot at these events is how teams can put AI to work without waiting on a long engineering backlog, and this week’s biggest launch speaks directly to that, with Amazon Connect Customer introducing a no-code way for business teams to design AI powered customer experiences themselves. Now, let’s get into this week’s AWS news.

<ins>Headlines

</ins>
Amazon Connect Customer launched the Agentic CX designer (NLX) in preview, a no-code canvas for designing and deploying AI powered self service experiences. Business teams can build and launch voice and digital experiences that bring agentic and deterministic AI together in one governed flow, going from design to testing and simulation to production ready experiences in weeks rather than months. The launch also includes Live Sync in preview, a patented technology that drives a customer’s web or mobile experience in real time as they speak or type. A caller can complete a form or pull up the right product page without ever leaving the conversation. To see how this reshapes who designs customer experience, read the blog post on how the business user is the new architect of customer experience.

<ins>Last week’s launches

</ins>
Here are some launches and updates from this past week that caught my attention:

AWS Lambda MicroVMs – A new serverless compute primitive that gives each user or job VM level isolation with near instant launch and resume speeds, plus the ability to suspend and resume execution for up to 8 hours. Built on Firecracker, it is made for running user or AI generated code in multi-tenant applications without managing virtualization infrastructure or trading off isolation, speed, and state.

Amazon EC2 AMI Watermarks – Lets you embed custom identifiers in your private AMIs that automatically carry forward to every derived AMI across copies, Regions, and account shares. You can combine watermarks with Allowed AMIs and Declarative Policies to restrict launches to approved images, available at no additional cost in all AWS Regions.

AWS Outposts self-service lifecycle management – Adds self service configuration, quoting, ordering, subscription management, renewal, and decommissioning directly from the console, CLI, and API. A new quoting tool generates real time cost estimates in seconds and surfaces account and regional constraints before you submit an order.

Amazon MSK AI Agent Skills – Gives AI coding assistants like Kiro, Claude Code, and Cursor expert, up-to-date guidance for operating Amazon MSK, covering troubleshooting, sizing, configuring, monitoring, and migrating external Kafka clusters to MSK Express. Tasks that once required specialized knowledge become a guided experience developers can complete on their own.

Amazon OpenSearch Service AI-assisted migrations – Migration Assistant now includes an agent guided experience that helps you move self managed Apache Solr, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch deployments to OpenSearch Serverless or Managed Clusters using tools like Kiro and Claude Code, with new live traffic capture and replay support for Solr.

Amazon GuardDuty AI-powered investigations (preview) – Automatically analyzes findings and accounts to help you separate true threats from benign activity, examining context and related activity from the last 90 days with knowledge graphs and threat intelligence. Each investigation returns a disposition assessment with confidence scoring, MITRE ATT&CK classification, and actionable recommendations in minutes.

         <ins>Other AWS news

</ins>
Here are some additional posts and resources that you might find interesting:

Open Governance for MySQL – Oracle announced a community governance model for MySQL that gives organizations outside Oracle a defined role in the project, including four non Oracle seats on a new Steering Committee and a public GitHub presence. AWS holds a seat and shares why it supports the move and how it already contributes fixes upstream for everyone running MySQL.

A new way to keep your AWS Certification current -You can now maintain an eligible AWS Certification for an additional year by completing curated training and hands on labs on AWS Skill Builder instead of retaking a full exam. The option is available today in open beta for several Associate and Professional certifications, with more coming later this year.

The All Builders Welcome Grant insider’s guide for 2026 applicants – A community guide on AWS Builder Center that walks early career builders through applying for the grant, which covers a full conference pass, airfare, and hotel for AWS re:Invent 2026. Applications are open now and close on July 14.

Last week, I took some time off in York, England, often described as the most haunted city in the country. I wandered through the ruins of abbeys that have stood for nearly a thousand years, walked along medieval walls, and spent an evening on a ghost tour hearing stories passed down through centuries. There’s something grounding about standing in a place that has witnessed so much history. Now I’m back at my desk, and the contrast is hard to miss: those abbey stones have stood for a thousand years largely unchanged, while in the span of a single week away, the pace of technological change has moved forward yet again.

Hello! I’m Daniel Abib, and this is my first AWS Weekly Roundup. I’m a Senior Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS, focused on the generative AI and Amazon Bedrock. With over 28 years of experience in solution architecture, software development, and cloud architecture, I help Startups & Enterprises harness the power of generative AI with Amazon Bedrock. I’ve been at AWS for more than six and a half years, working closely with customers across Latin America, and I’m also passionate about Serverless technologies.

Outside of work and endurance sports, I’m a dedicated father to Cecília (7) and Rafael (4), who keep me busier—and happier— than any distributed system ever could. I’m based in São Paulo, you can find me on LinkedIn and X (@DCABib), where I share insights about generative AI, Amazon Bedrock, AWS serverless services, and the occasional Ironman throwback.

Now, let’s get into this week’s AWS news…

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Last week’s launches

Here are some launches and updates from this past week that caught my attention:

Amazon Redshift increases performance for new queries in dashboards and ETL workloads by up to 7x — Amazon Redshift now delivers up to 7x faster performance for new queries in dashboards and ETL workloads. Queries you run for the first time — without cached results — now execute significantly faster, reducing wait times for interactive dashboards and accelerating your ETL pipelines. This is particularly impactful for workloads with high query variability where cache hits are less frequent.

NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super now available on Amazon Bedrock — NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super is now available in Amazon Bedrock, expanding the lineup of foundation models you can access through the unified Bedrock API. Nemotron 3 Super is a high-performance language model optimized for tasks such as text generation, complex reasoning, summarization, and code generation. You can now invoke Nemotron 3 Super alongside other foundation models in your existing Bedrock workflows, without managing any infrastructure.

Introducing Nova Forge SDK, a seamless way to customize Nova models for enterprise AI — Nova Forge SDK provides a streamlined way to fine-tune and customize Amazon Nova models for enterprise use cases. You can adapt Nova models to your domain-specific data and deploy them directly within Amazon Bedrock, reducing the complexity of building tailored AI solutions. The SDK handles the heavy lifting of model customization, letting you focus on your business logic rather than the underlying infrastructure.

Amazon Corretto 26 is now generally available — Amazon Corretto 26, the latest long-term support (LTS) release of the no-cost, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK, is now generally available. Corretto 26 includes the latest Java language features, performance improvements, and security patches, all backed by long-term support from AWS. You can use it across development and production environments on Amazon Linux, Windows, macOS, and Docker images.

AWS Lambda now supports Availability Zone metadata — AWS Lambda now provides Availability Zone metadata for your function invocations. You can now identify which Availability Zone your Lambda function is running in, enabling better observability, more informed architectural decisions, and simplified troubleshooting for latency-sensitive and multi-AZ workloads. This is particularly useful when correlating Lambda execution with other AZ-aware services in your architecture.

Amazon CloudWatch Logs now supports log ingestion using HTTP-based protocol — Amazon CloudWatch Logs now supports ingesting logs using an HTTP-based protocol, making it simpler to send logs from applications and services that use standard HTTP endpoints. You can now route logs to CloudWatch Logs without requiring custom agents or additional SDK integrations, lowering the barrier to centralized log management across your workloads.

Amazon EKS announces 99.99% Service Level Agreement and new 8XL scaling tier for Provisioned Control Plane clusters — Amazon EKS now offers a 99.99% Service Level Agreement (SLA) for clusters running on Provisioned Control Plane, up from the 99.95% SLA offered on standard control plane. EKS is also introducing the 8XL scaling tier, the largest available Provisioned Control Plane tier, which doubles the Kubernetes API server request processing capacity of the next lower 4XL tier — ideal for large-scale workloads like AI/ML training, high-performance computing (HPC), and large-scale data processing.

Other AWS news

Here are some additional posts and resources that you might find interesting:

Kiro for students — Kiro is now available for students, giving the next generation of builders access to AI-powered development tools at no cost. As Swami Sivasubramanian shared on LinkedIn, “Students are the future decision-makers shaping technology” — and Kiro gives them hands-on experience building with AI from day one. If you’re a student or know someone who is, this is a great opportunity to start building with AI-assisted development.

Strands Steering Hooks achieved 100% agent accuracy — The Strands Agents team published results showing that Steering Hooks can achieve 100% agent accuracy, outperforming both prompt engineering and rigid workflow approaches for controlling agent behavior. As Swami highlighted on LinkedIn, building reliable AI agents often means rethinking how we guide model behavior — and Steering Hooks offer a compelling new path to agent reliability.

Introducing Badges on AWS Builder Center — AWS Builder Center now features badges that recognize your contributions and achievements within the builder community. You can earn badges by sharing solutions, participating in challenges, and engaging with fellow builders. It’s a great way to showcase your expertise and track your growth.

Keep Building Together: The Power of Community — A thoughtful read on the power of community-driven learning and collaboration in the AWS ecosystem. Whether you’re just getting started with AWS or you’ve been building for years, the builder community is a place to connect, share knowledge, and grow together. I highly recommend checking it out.

This week started with challenges for many using services in the the North Virginia (us-east-1) Region. On Monday, we experienced a service disruption affecting DynamoDB and several other services due to a DNS configuration problem. The issue has been fully resolved, and you can read the full details in our official summary. As someone who works closely with developers, I know how disruptive these incidents can be to your applications and your users. The teams are learning valuable lessons from this event that will help improve our services going forward.

Last week’s launches

On a brighter note, I’m excited to share some launches and updates from this past week that I think you’ll find interesting.

AWS RTB Fabric is now generally available — If you’re working in advertising technology, you’ll be interested in AWS RTB Fabric, a fully managed service for real-time bidding workloads. It connects AdTech partners like SSPs, DSPs, and publishers through a private, high-performance network that delivers single-digit millisecond latency—critical for those split-second ad auctions. The service reduces networking costs by up to 80% compared to standard cloud solutions with no upfront commitments, and includes three built-in modules to optimize traffic, improve bid efficiency, and increase bid response rates. AWS RTB Fabric is available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore and Tokyo), and Europe (Frankfurt and Ireland).

Read moreAWS Weekly Roundup: Passkey MFA, Malware Protection on Amazon S3, and more (June 17, 2024) | Amazon Web Services

Customer Carbon Footprint Tool now includes Scope 3 emissions data — Understanding the full environmental impact of your cloud usage just got more comprehensive. The AWS Customer Carbon Footprint Tool (CCFT) now covers all three industry-standard emission scopes as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This update adds Scope 3 emissions—covering the lifecycle carbon impact from manufacturing servers, powering AWS facilities, and transporting equipment to data centers—plus Scope 1 natural gas and refrigerants. With historical data available back to January 2022, you can track your progress over time and make informed decisions about your cloud strategy to meet sustainability goals. Access the data through the CCFT dashboard or AWS Billing and Cost Management Data Exports.

Additional updates

I thought these projects, blog posts, and news items were also interesting:

AWS Secret-West Region is now available — AWS launched its second Secret Region in the western United States, capable of handling mission-critical workloads at the Secret U.S. security classification level. This new region provides enhanced performance for latency-sensitive workloads and offers multi-region resiliency with geographic separation for Intelligence Community and Department of Defense missions. The infrastructure features data centers and network architecture designed, built, accredited, and operated for security compliance with Intelligence Community Directive requirements.

Read moreSecure EKS clusters with the new support for Amazon EKS in AWS Backup

Amazon CloudWatch now generates incident reports — CloudWatch investigations can now automatically generate comprehensive incident reports that include executive summaries, timeline of events, impact assessments, and actionable recommendations. The feature collects and correlates telemetry data along with investigation actions to help teams identify patterns and implement preventive measures through structured post-incident analysis.

Amazon Connect introduces threaded email views — Amazon Connect email now displays exchanges in a threaded format and automatically includes prior conversation context when agents compose responses. These enhancements make it easier for both agents and customers to maintain context and continuity across interactions, delivering a more natural and familiar email experience.

Amazon EC2 I8g instances expand to additional regions — Storage Optimized I8g instances are now available in Europe (London), Asia Pacific (Singapore), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo). Powered by AWS Graviton4 processors and third-generation AWS Nitro SSDs, these instances deliver up to 60% better compute performance and 65% better real-time storage performance per TB compared to previous generation I4g instances, with storage I/O latency reduced by up to 50%.

AWS Location Service adds enhanced map styling — Developers can now incorporate terrain visualization, contour lines, real-time traffic overlays, and transportation-specific routing details through the GetStyleDescriptor API. The new styling parameters enable tailored maps for specific applications—from outdoor navigation to logistics planning.

Read moreAWS Weekly Roundup: Amazon ECS, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon Cognito and more (December 15, 2025)

CloudWatch Synthetics introduces multi-check canaries — You can now bundle up to 10 different monitoring steps in a single canary using JSON configuration without custom scripts. The multi-check blueprints support HTTP endpoints with authentication, DNS validation, SSL certificate monitoring, and TCP port checks, making API monitoring more cost-effective.

Amazon S3 Tables now generates CloudTrail events — S3 Tables now logs AWS CloudTrail events for automatic maintenance operations, including compaction and snapshot expiration. This enables organizations to audit the maintenance activities that S3 Tables automatically performs to enhance query performance and reduce operational costs.

AWS Lambda increases asynchronous invocation payload size to 1 MB — Lambda has quadrupled the maximum payload size for asynchronous invocations from 256 KB to 1 MB across all AWS Commercial and GovCloud (US) Regions. This expansion streamlines architectures by allowing comprehensive data to be included in a single event, eliminating the need for complex data chunking or external storage solutions. Use cases now better supported include large language model prompts, detailed telemetry signals, complex ML output structures, and complete user profiles. The update applies to asynchronous invocations through the Lambda API or push-based events from services like S3, CloudWatch, SNS, EventBridge, and Step Functions. Pricing remains at 1 request charge for the first 256 KB, with 1 additional charge per 64 KB chunk thereafter.

Upcoming AWS events

Keep a look out and be sure to sign up for these upcoming events:

AWS re:Invent 2025 (December 1-5, 2025, Las Vegas) — AWS flagship annual conference offering collaborative innovation through peer-to-peer learning, expert-led discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. Registration is now open.

Wow, can you all believe it? We’re nearing the end of the year already. Next thing you know, AWS re:Invent will be here! This is our biggest event that takes place every year in Las Vegas from December 1st to December 5th where we reveal and release many of the things that we’ve been working on. If you haven’t already, buy your tickets to AWS re:Invent 2025 to experience it in person. If you can’t make it to Vegas, don’t worry, make sure to stay tuned here on the AWS News Blog where will be covering many of the announcements as they happen.

However, there are plenty of new exciting new releases between now and then, so, as usual, let’s take a quick look at some of the highlights from last week so you can catch up on what’s been recently launched, starting with one of the most popular services: Amazon S3!

S3 updates
The S3 team has been working really hard to make working with S3 even better. This month alone has seen releases such as bulk target selection for S3 Batch Operations, support for conditional deletes in S3 general purpose buckets, increased file size and archive scanning limits for malware protection, and more.

Last week was another S3 milestone with the addition of a preview in the AWS Console for Amazon S3 Tables. You can now take a quick peek at your S3 Tables right from the console, making it easier to understand their data structure and content without writing any SQL. This viewer-friendly feature is ready to use across all regions where S3 Tables are supported, with costs limited to just the S3 requests needed to display your table preview.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Other releases
Here are some highlights from other services which also released some great stuff this week.

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore expands enterprise integration and automation options — Bedrock AgentCore services are leveling up their enterprise readiness with new support for Amazon VPC connectivity, AWS PrivateLink, AWS CloudFormation, and resource tagging, giving developers more control over security and infrastructure automation. These enhancements let you deploy AI agents that can securely access private resources, automate infrastructure deployment, and maintain organized resource management whether you’re using AgentCore Runtime for scalable agent deployment, Browser for web interactions, or Code Interpreter for secure code execution.

AWS X-Ray brings smart sampling for better error detection — AWS X-Ray now offers adaptive sampling that automatically adjusts trace capture rates within your defined limits, helping DevOps teams and SREs catch critical issues without oversampling during normal operations. The new capability includes Sampling Boost for increased sampling during anomalies and Anomaly Span Capture for targeted error tracing, giving teams better observability exactly when they need it while keeping costs in check.

AWS Clean Rooms enhances real-time collaboration wilth incremental ID mapping — AWS Clean Rooms now lets you update ID mapping tables with only new, modified, or deleted records through AWS Entity Resolution, making data synchronization across collaborators more efficient and timely. This improvement helps measurement providers maintain fresh datasets with advertisers and publishers while preserving privacy controls, enabling always-on campaign measurement without the need to reprocess entire datasets.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

Short and sweet
Here are some bite-sized updates that could prove really handy for your teams or workloads.

This week brings an array of innovations spanning from generative AI capabilities to enhancements of foundational services. Whether you’re building AI-powered applications, managing databases, or optimizing your cloud infrastructure, these updates help build more advanced, robust, and flexible applications.

Last week’s launches
Here are the launches that got my attention this week:

Amazon DocumentDB – Amazon DocumentDB Serverless is now available offering an on-demand, fully managed MongoDB API-compatible document database service. Read more in Channy’s post.

Amazon Q Developer CLI – You can now create custom agents to help you customize the CLI agent to be more effective when performing specialized tasks such as code reviews and troubleshooting. More info in this blog.

Amazon Bedrock Data Automation – Now supports DOC/DOCX files for document processing and H.265 encoded video files for video processing, making it easier to build multimodal data analysis pipelines.

Amazon DynamoDB – Introduced the Amazon DynamoDB data modeling Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool, providing a structured, natural-language-driven workflow to translate application requirements into DynamoDB data models.

AWS Lambda – Response streaming now supports a default maximum response payload size of 200 MB, 10 times higher than before. Lambda response streaming helps you build applications that progressively stream response payloads back to clients, improving performance for latency sensitive workloads by reducing time to first byte (TTFB) performance.

Powertools for AWS – Introducing v2 of Powertools for AWS Lambda (Java), a developer toolkit that helps you implement serverless best practices and directly translates AWS Well-Architected recommendations.

Amazon SNS – Now supports three additional message filtering operators: wildcard matching, anything-but wildcard matching, and anything-but prefix matching. SNS now also supports message group IDs in standard topics, enabling fair queue functionality for subscribed Amazon SQS standard queues.

Amazon CloudFront – Now offers two capabilities to enhance origin timeout controls: a response completion timeout and support for custom response timeout values for Amazon S3 origins. These capabilities give you more control over how to handle slow or unresponsive origins.

Amazon EC2 – You are now able to force terminate EC2 instances that are stuck in the shutting-down state.

Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling – You can now use AWS Lambda functions as notification targets for EC2 Auto Scaling lifecycle hooks. For example, you can use this to trigger custom actions when an instance enters a wait state.

Amazon SES – You can now provision isolated tenants within a single SES account and apply automated reputation policies to manage email sending.

AWS Management Console – You can now view your AWS Applications in the Service menu in the console navigation bar. With this view you can see all your Applications and choose an Application to see all its associated resources.

Amazon Connect – Amazon Connect UI builder now features an updated user interface to reduce the complexity to build structured workflows. It also simplified forecast editing with a new UI experience that improves planning accuracy. The Contact Control Panel now features an updated and more intuitive user interface. Amazon Connect also introduced new actions and workflows into the agent workspace. These actions are powered by third-party applications running in the background.

AWS Clean Rooms – Now publishes events to Amazon EventBridge for status changes in a Clean Rooms collaboration, further simplifying how companies and their partners analyze and collaborate on their collective datasets without revealing or copying one another’s underlying data.

AWS Entity Resolution – Introduced rule-based fuzzy matching using Levenshtein Distance, Cosine Similarity, and Soundex algorithms to help resolve consumer records across fragmented, inconsistent, and often incomplete datasets.

Additional updates
Here are some additional projects, blog posts, and news items that I found interesting:

Upcoming AWS events
Check your calendars so that you can sign up for these upcoming events:
