In August 2025, we introduced AWS User Experience Customization (UXC) capability to tailor user interfaces (UIs) to meet your specific needs and complete your tasks efficiently. With this capability, your account administrator can customize some UI component of AWS Management Console, such as assigning a color to an AWS account for easier identification.

Today, we’re announcing additional customization capability in UXC that enables selective display of relevant AWS Regions and services for your team members. By hiding unused Regions and services, you can reduce cognitive load and eliminate unnecessary clicks and scrolling, helping you focus better and work faster. With this launch, we offer the ability to customize account color, Region, and service visibility together.

Categorize account by color

You can set a color for your accounts to visually distinguish between them. To get started, sign in to the AWS Management Console and choose your account name on the navigation bar. Your account color isn’t set yet. To set the color, choose Account.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

In the Account display settings, select your preferred account color and choose Update. You can see the chosen color in the navigation bar.

By changing the account color, you can clearly distinguish the account’s purpose. For example, you can use orange for development accounts, light blue for test accounts, and red for production accounts.

Customize Regions and services visibility

You can control which AWS Regions appear in the Region selector or which AWS services appear in the console navigation. In other words, you can set to show only the Regions and services that are relevant to your account.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

To get started, choose the gear icon on the navigation bar and choose See all user settings. If you are in an administrator role, you can see a new Account settings tab in the unified settings. If you have not configured a setting, all Regions and services are visible.

To set visible Regions, choose Edit in the Visible Regions section. Select your visible Regions to All available Regions or Select Regions and configure your list. Choose Save changes.

You can also set visible services in the same way. Search or select services from the category. I used the Popular services category to select my favorites. When you finish selection, choose Save changes.

After configuring visible services setting, you will find only selected services in the All services menu on the navigation bar.

When you search the service name in the search bar, you can only choose selected services.

The Regions and services visibility settings control only the appearance of services and Regions in the console. They don’t restrict access through the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), AWS SDKs, AWS APIs, or Amazon Q Developer.

You can also manage these account customization settings programmatically with new
visibleServices
and
visibleRegions
parameters. For example, you can use AWS CloudFormation sample template:

AWSTemplateFormatVersion: "2010-09-09"
Description: Customize AWS Console appearance for this account

Resources:
  AccountCustomization:
    Type: AWS::UXC::AccountCustomization
    Properties:
      AccountColor: red
      VisibleServices:
        - s3
        - ec2
        - lambda
      VisibleRegions:
        - us-east-1
        - us-west-2

And you can deploy your Cloudformation template.

$ aws cloudformation deploy
  --template-file account-customization.yaml
  --stack-name my-account-customization

To learn more, visit the AWS User Experience Customization API Reference and AWS CloudFormation template reference.

Give it a try in the AWS Management Console today and provide feedback by selecting the Feedback link at the bottom of the console, posting to the AWS re:Post forum for the AWS Management Console, or reaching out to your AWS Support contacts.

Summer has drawn to a close here in Utrecht, where I live in the Netherlands. In two weeks, I’ll be attending AWS Community Day 2025, hosted at the Kinepolis Jaarbeurs Utrecht on September 24. The single-day event will bring together over 500 cloud practitioners from across the Netherlands, featuring 25 breakout sessions across five technical tracks. The day will begin with virtual keynotes at 9:00 AM, followed by parallel breakout sessions focused on practical implementations of serverless architectures and container optimization strategies, providing valuable insights regardless of experience level.

Last year’s AWS Community Day Netherlands 2024 brought together a diverse group of cloud practitioners, speakers, and AWS enthusiasts who contributed to making the community-led conference a valuable knowledge-sharing platform. If you’re planning to attend, feel free to find me there to discuss AWS services or share your cloud implementation experiences!

Let’s look at last week’s new announcements.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Last week’s launches

AWS Transform assessments now includes detached storage analysis – AWS Transform has expanded its assessment capabilities to analyze on-premises detached storage infrastructure, helping customers determine migration total cost of ownership (TCO). The assessment now evaluates Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), file servers, object storage, and virtual environments, providing migration recommendations to appropriate AWS services including Amazon S3, Amazon EBS, and Amazon FSx. The tool delivers a comprehensive TCO comparison between current and AWS environments, along with performance and cost optimization recommendations. With storage accounting for up to 45% of total migration opportunities, this enhancement helps customers visualize various AWS migration options. AWS Transform assessment is available in US East (N. Virginia) and Europe (Frankfurt) Regions.

Amazon Bedrock introduces Global Cross-Region inference for Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4 – Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model in Amazon Bedrock now supports Global cross-Region inference, allowing inference requests to route to any supported commercial AWS Region for processing. This enhancement optimizes available resources and enables higher model throughput by distributing traffic across multiple Regions. Previously, you could select cross-Region inference profiles tied to specific geographies (US, EU, or APAC). The new Global cross-Region inference profile provides additional flexibility for generative AI use cases that don’t require geography-specific processing, helping manage unplanned traffic bursts and increase model throughput. For detailed implementation guidance, visit the Amazon Bedrock documentation.

Amazon Neptune Database adds Public Endpoints support – Amazon Neptune now supports Public Endpoints, enabling direct connections to Neptune databases from outside the VPC without complex networking configurations. This feature helps developers securely access their graph databases from development desktops without requiring VPN connections or bastion hosts, while maintaining security through IAM authentication, VPC security groups, and encryption in transit. Public Endpoints can be enabled for Neptune clusters running engine version 1.4.6 or above through the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDK. The feature is available at no additional cost beyond standard Neptune pricing in all AWS Regions where Neptune Database is offered. Implementation details are available in the Amazon Neptune documentation.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

ECS Exec now available in AWS Management Console – Amazon ECS now supports ECS Exec directly in the AWS Management Console, enabling secure, interactive shell access to running containers without requiring inbound ports or SSH key management. Previously available only through API, CLI, or SDKs, this feature streamlines troubleshooting by allowing container access directly from the console interface. You can enable ECS Exec when creating or updating services and standalone tasks, then connect to containers by selecting “Connect” on the task details page, which opens an interactive session through CloudShell. The console also displays the underlying AWS CLI command for use in local terminals. This feature is available in all AWS commercial Regions and documented in the ECS developer guide.

Organizational Notification Configurations for AWS User Notifications now generally available – AWS User Notifications now supports Organizational Notification Configurations, helping AWS Organizations users centrally configure and view notifications across their organization. Management accounts or delegated administrators can configure notifications for specific organizational units or all accounts in an organization. The service supports configuring notifications for any supported Amazon EventBridge event, such as console sign-ins without MFA, with notifications appearing in the admin’s Console Notifications Center and AWS Console Mobile Application. User Notifications supports up to five delegated administrators and is available in all AWS Regions where AWS User Notifications is offered. For implementation details, visit the AWS User Notifications user guide.

Summer is well and truly here in the UK! I’m a bit of a summer grinch though so, unlike most people, I’m not crazy about “the glorious sun” scorching me when I’m out and about. On the upside, this provides the perfect excuse to retreat to the comfort of a well-ventilated room where I can focus on coding and curating the latest AWS releases to bring you the highlights.

I also managed to escape the heat for most of yesterday while recording an episode for the AWS Developers Podcast where the wonderful Sebastien Stormaq and Tiffany Souterre interviewed me about games development. If you haven’t discovered it yet, I highly recommend you give it a go as the episodes are full of interesting lessons and insights from not just AWS, but customers and community members who share their stories and expertise in a relaxed conversation.

Alright, ready to discover some of the new things we released last week? Here are the highlights.

AWS Builder Center
There is a new home for AWS builders and community members! AWS Builder Center is a new place where cloud builders can connect, share knowledge, and access resources to enhance their AWS journey. The platform enables users to join community programs, discover trending topics, access AWS Skill Builder courses, participate in technical challenges, and more, using a single Builder ID sign-in.

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

One the features that I’m personally most excited about is the Wishlist. You can now create wishes and tell AWS directly about ways to improve our products and services or share original ideas that you think could help you and your teams. You can also browse and upvote existing wishes to support any suggestions that you think should be prioritized. The AWS teams will keep an eye on this and if a wish has enough traction it may just be considered!

Read the news blog post for a quick tour through some of the most exciting features or head over to AWS Builder Center and start exploring!

AI
The world of AI keeps moving fast and changing our world, by providing new and exciting ways to do things and become more productive. Here are two releases from last week that caught my attention.

Amazon Q chat in the AWS Management Console can now query AWS service data – Amazon Q Developer expands its capabilities by enabling natural language queries of data stored across AWS services like S3, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch, directly from the AWS Console, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and AWS Console Mobile Application. This enhancement streamlines cloud management and troubleshooting by allowing users to access and analyze service data through conversational interfaces, with access controls managed through IAM permissions.

Amazon CloudWatch and Application Signals MCP servers for AI-assisted troubleshooting – AWS has released two new Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers – CloudWatch MCP and Application Signals MCP – that enable AI agents to leverage observability data for automated troubleshooting through conversational interfaces. These open-source servers allow AI assistants to analyze metrics, alarms, logs, traces, and service health data across AWS environments, streamlining incident response and root cause analysis without requiring developers to manually navigate multiple AWS consoles.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

Oracle Database@AWS
It seems like yesterday when Andy Jassy announced our partnership with Oracle to create Oracle Database@AWS, a jointly offered service that runs Oracle databases on Exadata infrastructure directly within AWS data centers, providing a unified AWS-Oracle experience. Fast forward to last week and Oracle Database@AWS has reached a significant milestone with its general availability release. It is now available in US East (N. Virginia) and US West (Oregon) regions, with plans to expand to 20 additional regions globally.

In addition, VPC Lattice has added support for Oracle Database@AWS enabling seamless connectivity between applications in VPCs and on-premises environments to Oracle database networks. The integration simplifies network management and provides secure access from Oracle Database@AWS to AWS services like Amazon S3 and Amazon Redshift, without requiring complex networking setup.

So if you’re looking to migrate your Oracle database workloads, now is a great time to explore Oracle Database@AWS as it offers a compelling path forward with minimal modifications required.

Additional highlights
Here are some other releases that I think many people will be happy about.

AWS Config now supports 12 new resource types – AWS Config has expanded its monitoring capabilities with support for 12 new resource types across services including BackupGateway, CloudFront, EntityResolution, Bedrock, and more. These additions are automatically tracked if you have enabled recording for all resource types, enhancing your ability to discover, assess, and audit AWS resources.

Amazon SageMaker Studio now supports remote connections from Visual Studio Code – Amazon SageMaker Studio now supports remote connections from Visual Studio Code, allowing developers to use their familiar VS Code setup while leveraging SageMaker’s scalable compute resources for AI development.

AWS Network Firewall: Native AWS Transit Gateway support in all regions – AWS Network Firewall now offers native integration with AWS Transit Gateway across all supported regions, enabling direct attachment and simplified traffic inspection between VPCs and on-premises networks. This integration eliminates the need for managing dedicated VPC subnets and route tables while providing multi-AZ redundancy for improved security and reliability.

Last week, AWS hosted free half-day conferences in London and Paris. My colleagues and I demonstrated how developers can use generative AI tools to speed up their design, analysis, code writing, debugging, and deployment workflows. These events were held at the GenAI Lofts. These lofts are open until October 25 (London) and November 5 (Paris). They will be packed with events, conferences, workshops, and meetups. If you’re around, be sure to check the agenda (London, Paris).

Our well-known AWS News blog co-author Veliswa did an amazing demo. She live-coded a Duolingo-like app from scratch, just using suggestions and reviews from Amazon Q Developer.

Now, let’s turn to other exciting news in the AWS universe from last week.

Last week’s launches
Here are some launches that got my attention:

Read moreHTML Element: select | Envato Tuts+

Bring your conversations to WhatsApp — AWS has added support for What’sApp to AWS End User Messaging, so developers can reach users on WhatsApp with multimedia and interactive messaging options. This feature integrates with SMS and push notifications already available. Developers can get started quickly using AWS Management Console.

Amazon Redshift data sharing with data lake tables — This offers a secure and convenient way to share live data lake tables across different Amazon Redshift warehouses. Data sharing of data lake tables in AWS Glue Data Catalog provides live access to the data, so you always see the most up-to-date and consistent information as it’s updated in the data lake.

Zonal shift and zonal autoshift for cross zoned Network Load Balancer — Network Load Balancer (NLB) now supports the Amazon Application Recovery Controller zonal shift and zonal autoshift features on load balancers that are enabled across zones. With Zonal shift, you can quickly shift traffic away from an impaired Availability Zone and recover from events such as bad application deployment and gray failures. Zonal autoshift safely and automatically shifts your traffic away from an Availability Zone when AWS identifies a potential impact to it.

Console to Code to generate infrastructure as a service code — This is by far my favorite launch of the week. Console to Code makes it simple, fast, and cost-effective to move from prototyping in the AWS Management Console to building code for production deployments. You can generate code for their console actions in their preferred format with a single click. The generated code helps you get started and bootstrap your automation pipelines for tasks. Console to Code is powered by Amazon Q Developer.

Read moreSkipping the WHM Getting Started Wizard | cPanel Blog

A new getting started experience for AWS CodePipeline — AWS CodePipeline introduces a simplified and new getting started experience so you can quickly create new pipelines. When you create a new pipeline using the CodePipeline console, you can now select from a list of pipeline templates across build, automation, and deployment use cases. After selecting a pipeline template, you will be prompted to enter values for the action configuration fields in the pipeline definition, and completing the process will render a fully configured pipeline that’s ready to run.

AWS Lambda detects and stops recursive loops between Lambda and Amazon S3 — Lambda recursive loop detection can now automatically detect and stop recursive loops between AWS Lambda and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Lambda recursive loop detection, which is enabled by default, is a preventative guardrail that automatically detects and stops recursive invocations between Lambda and other supported services, preventing unintended usage and billing from runaway workloads.

Amazon MemoryDB for Valkey — Amazon MemoryDB is a fully managed, Valkey– and Redis OSS-compatible database service, which provides multi-AZ durability, microsecond read and single-digit millisecond write latency, and high throughput. It is ideal for use cases such as caching, leaderboards, and session stores. With MemoryDB for Valkey, you can benefit from a fully managed experience built on open-source technology while using the security, operational excellence, and reliability that AWS provides. MemoryDB for Valkey also delivers the fastest vector search performance at the highest recall rates among popular vector databases on AWS.

Amazon Polly adds four new English voices for the generative engine and expands to three Regions — Polly is a managed service that turns text into lifelike speech, so you can create applications that talk and to build speech-enabled products depending on your business needs. The generative engine is the most advanced Amazon Polly text-to-speech (TTS) model. With this launch, we add a variety of new synthetic generative English voices to the Amazon Polly portfolio: an Australian English voice Olivia and three US English voices Joanna, Danielle, and Stephen. These voices have more natural pronunciation and prosody. You can use this high-tier product in various industries and for different purposes such as education, publishing, or marketing.
