How To: Update Nokia N73 Firmware to Internet Edition
The Nokia N73 Internet Edition Firmware 3.0638.0.0.43 update is now available. The Nokia N73 Internet Edition was only announced in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but anyone with the N73 can change their firmware to take advantage of the new firmware’s features by tricking Nokia Software Update. How is the Internet Edition different from the recently released Music Edition? Find out now as well as the instructions on how to update your Nokia N73 firmware.

The Nokia N73 Internet Edition contains all of the features of the Music Edition, but the multimedia key in the Music Edition goes straight to the music player. The Internet Edition retains the function of the original multimedia key where you can configure your own shortcuts to applications. They also included Windows Live Messenger and a few shortcuts to popular websites in the Internet folder. Otherwise, same as the Music Edition.
Updating to the Internet Edition is similar to the guide I wrote earlier on updating to Nokia N73 Music Edition.
Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.
- Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
- Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
- Click on the icon “Phone info”
- Click on “Scan”
- UPDATE Change the product code to
0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)
0539364 (Taiwan’s language pack: English + Traditional Chinese)
0539295 (Arabic, French, English)(People say it is ME edition)
0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, English)(People say it is ME edition) - Mark the case “Enable”.
- Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
- Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
- Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
- That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be the Nokia N73 Internet Edition!
You may also want to change for black Nokia N73 faceplate housing to black to make it look more like the real Nokia N73 Internet or Music Edition. You can read more about how to change the Nokia N73 faceplate guide that I wrote previously.

Rcadden on 8 December 2006:
You say it retains everything the Music Edition has, does this include the improved Music Player software?
Mark Guim on 9 December 2006:
Yes…. a few people who have done it already reports that it is the same thing as the Music Edition plus shortcuts, multimedia key, and MSN Messenger.
Han on 9 December 2006:
It working fine, i have successfully update my N73 ME to internet edition. It rocks and those feature in ME remains, now the media key with not bring u to music player anymore. Thanks…

I just tried on my 1 day old N73. Download follow the instruction closely but somehow it fail! I upgraded to IE version but cant see the internet folder.
lafiel on 10 December 2006:
question for hk firmware
when taking photo, can the shuttle noise be turn off?
Mark Guim on 10 December 2006:
Internet folder should be in the main menu.
Roderick on 10 December 2006:
Damn… I was kind of hoping they would’ve included the Orb application they are offering now in the N80 internet edition.. (..or perhaps even Skype that Three delivers on their x-series > http://www.three.co.uk/xseries/index.omp )
Guess we’ll have to wait for those. Maybe on the european firmwares?
Ashok on 10 December 2006:
If we update to internet edition. can we chnage it back to the normal edition
hanz on 10 December 2006:
Hai,

Any vodafone users had any success?
Patrick R on 13 December 2006:
Now here’s a strange one for you all…
I have two UK Nokia N73’s, with O2 firmware inside (code 0539976)
A while ago, I changed the code on one of them to the generic European code, to allow me to update the old 2.0628.0.0.1 O2 operater firmware, to the newer version 3 software.
Doing this, you get all the bug fixes, but NOT the Music Edition new player, and stereo widening etc. (I know this, as I did exactly this).
BUT… you also keep the original fonts throughout the phone, which to me are MUCH BETTER - the fonts that come when you flash to the M.E., or the I.E. N73, are old fashioned looking, and jaggy to me.
I later again updated this phone from Music Edition, to Internet Edition, but like many others found that whilst it changes the nature of the Media Key back to how it used to be (that is, can be configured, not specific only to the music player), I found however that it did NOT install Windows Live Messenger, Gmail, etc etc. it is meant to.
So I have happily been running an N73 Internet Edition with the newer (worse) fonts, and the new music features etc, for the last few days, alongside my original O2 firmware 2.0628.0.0.1 Nokia N73 handset with the older better fonts, but old music player too.
Today, I decided to update this other phone slightly too, but NOT to the ME or IE edition as I dislike the fonts so much.
So I used Nemesis to change my product code to 0537289 (Euro 1).
I connected to Nokia Software Updater, it downloaded and installed the update (by my reckoning, this code should allow an update of the STANDARD firmware, not any special edition?)
And when my phone was re-booted, I found I was using the nice new “Stave” theme, but with my original, preferred fonts.
Cool. But wait… I loaded up my music player… and lo and behold, I have the new player, complete with album art, and stereo widening!
But with my ORIGINAL, better fonts!
I have no idea how I have managed this, but it’s the truth.
My version numbers now show as:
‘none’ M.E./I.E. edition handset with the original style fonts-
V 3.0638.0.0.30
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (01)
And for the Internet Edition handset with larger jaggy fonts -
v 3.0638.0.0.43
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (10)
Strange indeed.
Can anyone else yet to update, let me know how they get on too.
For me though, I am over the moon to find I have the best of both worlds - New Music Player and Stereo Widening, but with the original, and IMHO better screen fonts.

Igonore last post - That’s easily changed!
However; I really don’t like the fonts on my updated N73 IE. Is there anyway to change back to the original Euro ones? Gutted I didn’t read Patrick R’s post earlier.
Bring me back my old fonts please!

Updated my Three branded N73 to 0537289 (Euro1) ME and it rocks. Music player is great (why not have this in the normal version????) and the whole thing runs faster. Also goto the Download! app in Applications and you can download a free Zip Manager, Barcode Reader, YahooGO and Wireless Keyboard.
Now have X-Series and only thins I can’t download from the three internet site are MSN Messenger and Mobilcast. Got the MSN 1.0 version downloaded from elsewhere and its been working fine (Also looks better). Mobilcast was crap, just download S60 Internet Radio and have any shoucast radio station play on it.

I updated my phone to Music Edition , the only reason being that I wanted the newer Music Player.
But , once I updated my phone , Music Player does not refresh the library ( Options > Refresh Music Library ) , It gives an error message saying ” Music: Already in use ” . Assuming that it was because Music Player was already open , I closed all other programs ,including Music Player and again tried it , yet the error keeps coming up .
It doesn’t even find any songs on searching ( I let it search for 5 hours ).
Anyone know what to do ?
Please help !!!!

Hey guys hows it going, hope everythings good. I just wanted to run something by you guys; i’ave upgraded my N73 to Music Edition quite a while ago around there, four weeks and i love it and just yesterday i was just browsing the net after a while and i saw that a new firmware Internet Edition is avaiable so i decided to update it and i know all the product changing codes thing, so i changed my product code to “0539295 (Arabic, French, English)” cause i live in Saudi Arabia and if the phone does’t have Arabic then i can’t sell it, now i know i’m gonna keep the phone for a while but just incase i’d rather have Arabic, ok so i changed the code and the ran the Nokia Software updater and it detected my phone but said that it was already upto date and no updates are avaiable but my is the Music Edition in which the firmware is .30 at the end, so i then changed the code to “0539364 (Taiwan’s language pack: English Traditional Chinese)” and the same no updates and its the same for the “0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, English)” but when i changed it to “0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)” the Nokia software updater said that an update is avaiable, could someone please tell me whats happening cause i really miss the Multimedia Key and i wanna upgrade the phone to have Arabic, Thanks
Mark Guim on 30 December 2006:
Hmm..so it looks like the Internet Edition is just made for Asia.
SpenZ on 30 December 2006:
just changed product code to 0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, English) and updated, but got music edition firmware v3.0638.0.0.30 changed product code again to 0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese) and update is available, but battery nearly dead (will do in a bit0. so i say use 0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)
Saad on 30 December 2006:
Thanks for you replies guys, i indeed used all the product codes and only on the “0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)” i was allowed to update so i trid it and it said that it was updating but then at around half way it stoped and said update failed and just below it said that there are no updates for my phone, i just thought that maybe it lost connection from the server or something so i tried again and the same, i did it a couple of times but still however MikeMaMan said that if you keep trying then maybe it’ll update, but Mark you could have a point saying that it may only be for Asia and SpenZ please do try posting the results after you update your phone. Theres just one other thing that i think could be a possiabality but this is just a theory of mine; you know each different product code gives a different number next to the “Nokia N73 (01)” here in the Euro2 product code its 01 however for the gulf one its (08) when i bought my phone (i live in Saudi Arabia so its most prob gulf one) i had (08) mine is just the regular Nokia N73 however i upgraded it to the Music Edition (this was when the Music Edition firmware was just newly announsed) using the Euro2 product key and so i then got a (01) after the Nokia N73 and i no longer had Arabic (which sort of scared me), but yesterday i saw a list of product codes for the N73 Music Edition and i saw that there was a Gulf region one so i changed my original product code to that and the ran the Nokia Software Updater and it said that my phone is fully upto date however i can chose to reinstall it so i did and now i got the (08) back as well as Arabic and its Still a Music Edition so in a way i’m really happy and kinda relieved cause i got Arabic back. Ok after i update my phone i change the product code back to the original one i had when i bought my phone (i don’t know why it just makes me feel better) and now if i run the software updater it says my phone is upto date but i don’t have the option to reinstall, Now when i try chinging the code to one of the Internet Edition codes the software says that my phone is upto date and i also can reinstall but no uodate to the Internet Edition,…Now Sence people have successfully updates their phones to Internet Edition i have a few questions for them: Did you update your regular N73 to MI and then IE or did it just go stright to the IE and this question is for people like me who have upgraded their regular N73 to ME and now to IE: Could anyone who has successfully updated their Music Editon N73 (and by Music Edition i mean preveously ugraded from regular N73 not the off the self N73 ME) could you please give the product codes that you used to upgrade your phone and what was their firmware version (i mean the number after Nokia N73) before they upgraded it, I think that, that number after the Nokia N73 has something to do weather you can upgrade your phone or not, Thanks again
Saad on 30 December 2006:

dulber on 5 January 2007:
Hello, I’m located in the Philippines.
I just completed a successful firmware flash from N73(1) to N73(14) Hong Kong product code 053966. Very nice. I also have the jaggy font but the music player is better. I just have to figure out how to get the album art to transfer from CD to phone.
Thanks for the information.
It was a smooth process, all 73.5Mb download & software upgrade.
I didn’t get to check out all options before restoring my back-up through PC Suite. I don’t have MSN Messenger but I suppose this is provider dependent. I got a dictionary and modem. Dictionary doesn’t work yet and I haven’t tried the modem.
More as I tinker with this new firmware…
Floydian1 on 5 January 2007:
The update always stops at around 80% says connection the phone is lost, I can restart the phone by removing the battery when it restarts I seem to end up with a cross between the music edition & the internet edition, ie. I get the update player which is on all the time but can still use the media key to select various apps and don’t get any of the msn messenger stuff, firmware reports itself as the current uptodate. Also some software like XpressPrint is missing, any links to redownload this?
The firmware version is now:
V 3.0638.0.0.43
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (14)
Everything seems to work okay so far (apart from some missing apps like xpressprint) I can also shutdown the music player by selecting exit in the equaliser settings.
dulber on 5 January 2007:
Hello Floydian1,
Where are you located?
It seems the extra applications are location/operator dependent.
I didn’t encounter the error at 80% during the update though.
Floydian1 on 5 January 2007:
I’m in the UK on the o2 network, I must have done it at least 20 times and it stopped at 80% in on every attempt, the phone is stuck in testmode when it stops and you have to remove the battery to reboot it. On rebooting the phone seems fine and reports the above firmware version.?
dulber on 5 January 2007:
Is it possible that something is interfering with the update procedure? Check to see that the anti-virus in your PC is disabled.
Monitor your PC resources while the update process is ongoing to see where the hang-up could be at. It’s a good thing the phone is still alive after an incomplete update. Have you restored your backed-up data to the device yet?
The update was a one time, no frills affair for me. Thank goodness.
I regret not fiddling longer with the default settings before restoring my backed-up data. I should have taken down the new things available after the flash. Oh well, I’ll find a “victim” who’d be willing to flash their “virgin” device here and make sure to take down notes, he heh…

Hi, I just had upgraded my phone recently
im from the philippines
I selected Hongkong’s variant, upgrade last for 2 hours.
It is the first time for me to upgrade my phone’s firmware.
And I wanna thank you for this ….
- my phone works faster
- characters on my oggplay is now coming up with fonts
- better battery management
and a lot more
but there are still some bugs remained on my phone
- cant zoom a 3Mp image to more than 50%
- still can’t delete themes
- some installed themes disappeared on application manager
- image viewing on gallery has changed … now new image will appear counter clockwise
also i don’t have any msn messenger installed
but im quite satisfied … since upgrading isn’t that difficult …
Now i love my phone more … the sound is great, compared to n93, I would still choose this phone …

yeah it happens to me too, what you have to do is go to “now playing”>then options>then equalizer>then exit, ill close your music player then once you go in, ill get your songs and that’s it
To sidseimer:
i think you can zom, its on the options>digital zoom > then you put it on i think, works for me
to all people who try to use this, beware since it’s 100% working in asia phones, not really shure bout US i upgraded mine and works flawlessly(*except the fact bout 2gb’s bug, its kinda pissed me but everything’s well)
and one thing i notice, if you put a new theme on your internet edition, it takes off your internet folder, which is okay for me but not to others
and about the themes, its not that it cannot delete the themes, its just something is missing on the theme that makes it undelete, just download sysexplorer at m420 forum and you’ll find it there or use your mass storage and delete it at sys folder (*i dont know the folder number but you’ll find it by using search>type the name of the theme>viola once you find the file delete the whole folder with it)
and to my pinoy people, kamusta haha gleng ng n73 haha

coz im planning to buy a 2gb mini sdcard, currently im using 1 gig , , ,
and about the themes, im still trying to find out how to uninstall it hahah
yeah, ur right, n73 is simply amazing. . . its almost perfect. . .
to rockafeller, hi din, im from marilao, bualcan, im working here in makati, a tech support in a callcenter
for oggplayer users, at first Im having some problems using the sound widening on the music player,
coz equalisers in the music player are functioning well while im playing my ogg files on the oggplayer,
just find out that you need to play a music on the music player (with the sound widening and loudness turned on) and then pause it, open oggplayer and play music
you will hear the difference and the effects of the audio effect coming from the music player
i really love this phone, the best music player so far

RE: 2Gb Mini-SD storage.
There’s a bug? What’s the bug about?
I’m using a Kingston Mini-SD 2Gb card and it’s working fine.
RE: 3MP image zooming
Correct me if I’m wrong.
The bug reported is the inability to zoom in on a 3MP image?
I’m doing it right now and it’s working without a problem.
All my photos are taken in this resolution and so far no problems encountered. I get a memory warning after using the phone applications for sometime indicating too many applications active and to close some to enable zooming in again. I just turn off the power. It’s probably a memory resource handling issue. I have the F-Secure mobile security program always running in the background.
I always try to disabled the music player also.
By the way, my F-Secure trial period is expiring in 9 days.
I haven’t decided to renew yet, one year subscription is 34USD .
RE: For changes in fonts go to http://www.symbian-freak.com and check out the modding thread. You have to be a registered member to access it though. I’m fine with the fonts for now.
Has anyone tried aftermarket Nokia audio adapters for their other brand headsets? I tried an AD-41 yesterday from a friend but it didn’t work. I can’t source Nokia audio adapters from Nokia Care at the moment to try out their “original” Nokia accessories.

Hi there ,
Just been reading all your post’s , and after some heavy thought decied to take the plunge in to the unknown , After getting my n73 four days ago & seeing this guide on how to change to Music edition or Internet Edtion , went ahead and did the firmware update.
All went according to plan and the phone is now a nice shiny internet edition in vanilla ( which i am planning to change , thanks to the gudie that you gave ha ha ).
Well i got to say the only thing i regret is the font that the internet edition has is pooh ! i dont like it at all , is there anyway of changing back to the Standard n73 or getting to fonts changed on the handset , its not that i dont like the Internet Edition its just that the fonts are killing me and i am very happy with how much quicker the handset works.
Would it be a case of changing the handset back to the euro 1 standard code and would this include the updates.
Well again thanks for all the help and will speak to you soon hopefully !
Get back to me guys

Ok I upgraded to IE with HK language and noticed there is a dictionary but it cant be used. Is there a way to get rid of it as I noticed there there was a europe code that I want to use. Can I do this to change hk fw to eyrope fw?. Also y cant I close the music player it always runs in the backgorund
joncom on 15 January 2007:
@mahal:
You can close the music player by playing a song, then go to equaliser and cancel. This closes the music player. I always do this when I first boot my phone since I use LCG Jukebox as a MP3 player instead.
mahal on 16 January 2007:
Thanks joncom but I want it to always exit when I stop playing and I dont really want to use a 3rd party app to play. Does the ME edition allow u to exit? I wanna try and go back to ME now from IE if its possible and also can I change the language code to Europe with the 5 european language files.
dulber on 16 January 2007:

I see. The vanilla N73, mine, at least, used to have memory problems when zooming into images. It said low memory or something.
After the flash to IE I didn’t experience it anymore.
I use a Kingston 2Gb MiniSD and it’s working flawlessly.
My only gripe is after flashing to IE I restored data from a full back-up I ended up with a couple of themes I can no longer un-install (they came with the back-up).
By the way, I flashed without the MiniSD card.
I’m going to re-flash to vanilla flavor later after I get off work.
Then re-install apps from scratch. This time around no data restore to make sure the version I get is “pure”.
Like mahal posted I also have a dictionary that doesn’t work.
I believe it’s an English to Simple Chinese version and a modem app that only connect via infrared. Go figure.
Mark Guim:
I suppose no matter how much we thank you it won’t net a new N73
How are service providers in your location? Maybe they can offer you something irresistible for less quid?
VaguelyAmused on 16 January 2007:
Hi Mark,
Sorry to ask a slightly unrelated question - but the picture of the N73 you show on your blog has black side shortcut keys, IMHO that looks really nice with only the top navigaton keys in silver. I’ve looked everywhere for a replacement keypad like that and although I can find “black” keypads they still have silver side shortcut keys - does you, or anyone else, know where you can get a keypad that looks like the one in the picture on your blog??
mahal on 16 January 2007:
I think his 1 is original ME Model which comes in black.
Ok so I found this 0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, English)So can I flash this agin on my IE version to change the language and will it get rid of the useless dictionary?
Mark Guim on 16 January 2007:
Vaguely, the phone above with the black keypads is the actual Internet Edition phone being sold in Asia. Right now, the only way you can that color keypad is by buying/trading it off from an N73IE phone owner in Asia.
tron on 16 January 2007:
The upgrade worked for me! I went from 0539297 to 0539366 with Nokia updater version 1.2.3. It did stay at 80% upgraded for a few minutes, but I just waited and it eventually finished.
I do have the new music player and internet folder, but no msn, gmail or other internet links or icons. The new music player was worth the upgrade, and yes it is runningin the background all the time. Stereo widening does sound better. The phone is faster. Camera still makes shutter sound in silent mode. The fonts don’t look that bad, although the original fonts were chubbier and anti-aliased.
Rex on 17 January 2007:
Ok so it worked for me-on the second try. The first time I tried, my computer rebooted due to a power surge. Result- RIP N73.
After a week chasing the care center folks, they reflashed it to a newer bios. Once again I changed the code to Hongkong and tried it. It failed at 80%..then I retried, and it worked!
Now here’s the weirdness…I changed the theme to a custom theme and the phone crashed. On rebooting-the ‘Internet’ folder had vanished, and its contents (downloads, search and Web) were in the main applications folder!!
The function key works normally, the music player is the same updated one (with balance, stereo widening and loudness, and album art support).
Firmware version is now the same as other IE-

mahal on 17 January 2007:
To mark Guim or any expert here can I reflash my N73 IE with this code 0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, English) to chage it from the HK code? As I think that will get rid off the unuseable dictionary. I found an Oxford concise dictionary which is awesome. Also is it me or does the battery seem to run out faster with a custom theme installed?
ores on 17 January 2007:
i think you can download the chinese english dictionary in nokia website… it’s the simplified dictionary for it… the one installed in IE is an empty dictionary… just like the F-secure antivirus which u have to download first… so, it’s just an installer…

Hey guys how’s it going? Hope everything’s fine, You Are Not Gonna Believe This;
Now I;m the guy who asked about the Internet Edition and upgrades and all that stuff quite a while ago just for the record I’ll introduce myself again, I’m Saad, I live in Saudi Arabia but originally Pakistani and Damm…Proud, I got my N73 around 4 months ago and I’m one of those Nokia Frantics who likes to keep his cell tweaked to the max, I;m sure you all know what I’m talking about.
Any way, Heres My Story:
My N73 is just the regular one it came with the firmware:
V2.0628.0.01
10.07.2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (8)
I then used Nemesis Software Suite to change the product code to the Euro2 one and then upgraded my regular N73 to the Music Edition (which by the way I love!!!) and this was when the Music Edition firmware was just newly announced. My Firmware then Became:
V3.0638.0.01
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (1)
Now after awhile the gulf Music Edition came out which contained Arabic, so I changed it my product code to the gukd music edition and reinstalled the Music Edition firmware this time with Arabic, my firmware then became
V3.0638.0.01
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (1)
( Only difference is that the (1) became (8), that’s cause the Euro 2 is (1) and Gulf is (8) )
That was enough for me I was really happy with the Music Edition. After a while I read about the new Internet Edition out in Hong Kong and I was interested in upgrading it for the Multimedia key but as I posted before it never happened with my phone. Now each time I flashed my phone using a different product code I always changed my product code back to the original one that my phone came with, I don’t really know why, I just did.
Now Comes the Weird Part;
Today I just wanted to reinstall the Music Edition firmware on my phone for no particular reason but just to make it sort of ‘Brand New Again’ and theres two product codes for the Gulf N73;
1. 0529785 GULF (Deep Plum) this is the regular N73
2. 0539295 Gulf, this is for the Music Edition
Now I said that I change my code back to the original one which is “0529785 GULF (Deep Plum) and so I ran the Nokia Software updater with my original code just to see what happens (cause I should really change my code to the Gulf N73 ME code which is number 2 so that I get a reinstall) but to my surprise it said that a new upgrade was available and I thought well maybe they allowed upgrades to the regular N73 to become the ME so I allowed it to.
I noticed that it only had to download 53MB as compared to the ME which is around 70MB and so I let it. Now after it finished , You wont believe it, My N73 Music Edition had become a regular N73, YES you heard me A REGULAR N73 , nomore music edition, the music player was back to the regular N73 one with the bubble like play, pause etc.. nomore audio settings nomore album art, even the icon was 2D again and most of all The Fonts All Returned!!!!!!, thin fonts for the active standby and alittle bold for the menu, OK that’s weird!! With everyone saying that its complicated and almost impossible to downgrade here I am with a original N73 again from a Music Edition, I even got my multiamedia key back!!, Now that’s not All the firmware, Man its some alien firmware, its;
V3.0649.0.01
30-11-2006
RM-133
(c) Nokia N73 (8)
Yes guys that’s it, some weird version, I don’t think anyones heard of it!!!, look its Version 3 on a regular N73 with normal fonts and regular music player!!! And “.0649” never herad of it and now theres a “©” before the Nokia N73, what the hell!!!
You know guys I think theres a loop hole in the firmware stuff, theres a possibility to bring your upgraded N73 back to the normal one by basically upgrading it to some other one
Let Me Explain;
Now guys if you notice that the weird alien firmware is actually newer then the Music Edition one see its 30-11-2006 and the Music edition is 30-10-2006 a months difference so that means I actually upgraded my phone, you see what these nokia guys probly did was make an upgrade for the regular Gulf N73 which is newer from the Music Edition so that practly means that if someone wanted there upgraded N73 Back to a regular one they just have to upgrade it to the Saudi Gulf Regular N73 Edition
I really have no idea what the Hell is going on, Man why can’t we all just upgrade to a normal upgrade that contains everything!!!
Bye, Guys
Saad

Hey, Guys its me again and its back man this is bad, i can’t upgrade my N73 to either the music edition of the internet Edition cause that alien firmware is newer then both of them man!!!!!!!!!

For about two hours; I thought I had a toaster but I kept at it. Taking the battery out, back in; memory card out, back in; battery and mains power. Didn’t matter, it kept throwing the update out at 80%. Guaranteed.
Until suddenly it decided it can’t take any more punishment from me and went through.

i have a plain n73 and i have successfully updated it to music edition last december. i’ve been trying like crazy to update it to internet edition (using nss and nsu, firewall off, etc) but it always fails!!! the ugly part is that i am on dial-up and it takes 6-7hours only for it to fail on me so it’s really really frustrating. does someone know where i can download the n73ie firmware? i will try installing it using phoenix. it sounds complicated but i think i will give it a shot. i’m racking up a huge bill in my internet but the nsu update is not working. can someone help? would be appreciated. thanks!
jean on 30 January 2007:
by the way, do i have to stay up for this update? i mean befire with the n73me i’d just wake up and reboot my phone in the morning and that’s it. is this the same? or do i have to keep my eyes peeled for a particular time when it asks me to reboot and i am sleeping coz it’s 4am in the morning that’s why it fails??? i’m confused. please help. thanks!

Saad: hahaha, alien-firmware, lol
It is only an upgrade to the basic N73 firmware, and I’m sure lots of people have heard of it: http://hunajatehdas.net/nokia/firmware/index_en.php?model=N73&variantsof=2.0628.0.0.1#
There is nothing “alien” about it.

The vanilla flavor N73 is alreayd able to handle a 2Gb mini-SD out of the box. I use a 2Gb Kingston mini-SD myself and had no problems with access in the vanilla N73(1) or the IE version N73(14).
Of course, the more applications you use and leave open the slower your phone’s system will become. The phone only has 47MB at most of shared memory and I suppose even less cache. If you run out of memory or receive any message to the same effect just cycle the phone’s power and you should be fine.
I wish these units come with more cache and memory to work with in the first place.
By the way, to refresh your firmware you can re-flash to the same version if no upgrade exist. I’ve already done it and now I have the 50% max photo magnification issue. I didn’t have that before and could zoom to 100%. Silly!
I haven’t tried re-flashing back to vanilla N73(1) version.
Good luck.

@tickal
Thanks for the info.. this my third update since i bought my N73
….I beg to dissagree that the Internet edition is “sucks”….I should say that internet edition has a stable firmware since there is no available new firmware. Can you imagine from the day the N73 released from the market i think 5 updates has been release by nokia because of some bugs and complaints from the consumer….
..I want to try to update my N73 ME to N73 IE.. im longing for the released of new firmware for Internet edition
DarKmaN on 15 February 2007:
Hi Guys!
Was able to update my firmware to Internet Edition. My original product code was 0539335 (don’t know for what region but my phone is made in Finland). I changed the code using NSS to 0539366 (HK) first then proceeded with the update, which took about an hour to finish. Now its working perfectly BUT:
1.i can’t find the gmail, yahoo, etc. links in the internet folder
2. No real significant increase in speed
3. Only additions i noticed are the 2 new themes
I have 2 questions for you guys please:
1. Can i change my code back to the original one using NSS without any adverse effects?
2. I’m also Filipino! Where in Metro Manila can I buy a cheap black FULL housing with keypad coz mine is color plum/grey. I need a black full housing, notes the Class A ones sold right now that deteriorate easily!
MARAMING SALAMAT SA INYO.
Wilmar on 16 February 2007:
@ Darkman
You can see the difference in music player.. i can say that the IE music player is much better than the normal N73.
You didn’t mention your N73 model
Yes you can change back to either normal N73 or N73 Music edition without any adverse effect.. Here’s the product code.
N73 normal>>>0529816 APAC version including filipino language
N73 music edition>>>0539346 APAC version
Enjoy!!

I’m from Australia bought this phone locked to 3 & it stopped at 80%.
Wouldn’t work after that.
Had to plug in a new N73, then plug in the old one when flashing.
Any ideas?

Hi, how do you use this nemesis thing, it does not find my phone!!!Is it coz Im using Vista??? Please Help
Sidmeier22 on 22 February 2007:
to Berty Bassey :
yes its possible, coz there are only few compatible softwares that run on Windows Vista . . . i guess less than 100 or 50 . . .
Sidmeier22 on 22 February 2007:
to DarKmaN :
hi, its nce to know that youve tried to upgrade to IE, well upgrading to Ie will have the benefits of the new updates from the old firmware of the normal n73
if u cud check whats new in ur phone
the music player is really better as it acquired the n73 ME player with stereo widening, extra loudness, album art and visualizations, new 3d sound tones, an internet folder includes some addtional apps . . .
theres really no yahoo or gmail links there but an email setup wizard that can configure the yahoo and gmail email account of yours on ur phone,
plus the media key function will still be the same unlike the Music Edition,
plus bugs fixes of some known issues on the n73 firmware
actually im also looking for a black faceplate on the market . . . not yet tried in greenhills
Im from Makati, nice to know youre here. Thanks!

Got my n73 flashed to n73 IE already…
All perfect except for the phone font….
Don’t like that font at all…
Saad on 3 March 2007:
Hey guys hows it been going, nice to see everyones still at it,. LOL! and Yea JBL168, HANZ is right if you want the latest firmware : V3.0705.1.031 (Which is a Music Edition) than you’ll have to change your product code to a Music Edition product code i did the same as when i upgraded my N73 (which is just the standard one) using its original product code it upgraded to : V3.0704.1.0.1 (Which is just an upgrade for the standard N73, no new Music player…) so i changed the product code to a Music Edition one and ran Nokia Software Upgrader and it upgraded to : V3.0705.1.031 a Music Edition! and i’m happy again as my phone finnaly a Music Edition again!
My phones upgrades:
From original N73:
V2.0628.0.0.1
10.07.2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (8)
To a Music Edition:
V3.0638.0.0.1
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (08)
Then for some reason i upgraded it using its original product code and it became a regular N73 again:
V3.0649.0.01
30-11-2006
RM-133
(c) Nokia N73 (8)
Lol! Nituspar you’ll right its not an alien firmware LOl! but sence it came back to the original N73 i became sad and was egarly awaiting a new upgrade for the Music Edition and Thank God it came, but again i almost made the same mistake again and i upgraded using its original product code! Stupid me and it upgraded to:
V3.0704.1.0.1
so than i changed it to a ME product code and thank God again the ME firmware is newer and so finnaly it upgraded to a ME! this happened just yesterday..can’t wait to tell my friend who all have original ME’s and payed a whole lot! LOL when we all just upgraded oue regular N73’s to ME!:
Now my firmware is:
V3.0705.1.0.31
26-01-2007
RM-133
(c) Nokia N73 (08)
I don’t know why i wrote all that but it might help someone, Bye guys
Saad on 3 March 2007:
Hey i just noticed 2 new things, in the new ME V3.0705.1.0.31 , the font in the active standby is not bold like the standard N73 and now you can’t exit the Music Player, theres no exit in the Equalisers man who told nokia, Later

Im from Phil too. My phone is an N73 standard edition, updated to V3.0704.1.0.1 19-01-2007. When I used NSS to change the product code to an IE version, it did but when i run the NSU, it says that my firmware is currently up to date. And it stops there.
Can u or anybody here help me with this?
Thanks.
wilmar on 6 March 2007:
@gary
you have to wait for the latest version of IE edition,
Why dont you upgrade it to Music Edition? which is far better than your regular N73.
JBL168 on 6 March 2007:
Hi guys,
i updated my standard n73 to latest update of a standard n73 then after installing it, it w=cant play mp4 anymore. why is that? did anyone encounter the same problem w/ mine?

i did as what you suggested. So im now using an N73ME 3.0705.1.0.31, works fine as of the moment. I just miss the multimedia key shortcuts.
