Video: Nokia N81 Commercial The Next Episode
Here is the Nokia N81 commercial dubbed, The Next Episode. This 1 minute clip is dark and mysterious, making me curious about the phone, unlike the Nokia N95 8GB commercial, where it directly gives you the features and specifications. I like both styles. Take a look.
Since the Nokia N81 is certainly not for the power-users, I think it was a good decision not to place emphasis on its features. It doesn’t really tell you much about the Nokia N81 until the end where it briefly shows that you can play movies, play music, and play games.
I listened to the dialog to see what they’re talking about. Read the excerpt below.
Are you sitting comfortably? The next episode is about to begin. The next episode takes place in the street, in the middle of an ocean. In the next episode, nobody will talk; everybody will sing. In the next episode, 60 minutes takes 60 seconds. You can score from anywhere. It’s being written while you’re asleep. The next episode will not return after this commercial break. In the next episode, we all have the same voice. One person takes on the world. Its the remix of the remix. It’s the greatest, smallest show on earth. A little hush please… the next episode is about to begin.
What you think the guy is trying to say?

The audio sync is wrong. I fixed it and uploaded a newer video. Youtube is taking a while to encode.
Mark Guim on 19 September 2007:
It’s back up.
NET9 on 19 September 2007:
How ironic. The Next Episode was having some technical difficulties.
Thushara on 20 September 2007:
Nokia is greatest.

The slogan of the Go Play was something like “Entertainment. Next Episode”. So this add is building on that theme: N81 is the next episode of entertainment, and the references to N-Gage gaming are fairly explicit as well.
Ninong Brown on 20 September 2007:

Is it just me, or does that sound like Brad Pitt’s voice on the commercial?? I’d nearly swear it is!
Greg on 6 November 2007:
What is the name of the music in the ad? I can’t find it anywhere.
If commercials put or sold these tunes on their website they would find a nice market out there!

It seems to be Philip Glass music..

Nela on 7 February 2008:
can someone please tell me who’s the guy in the end of the commercial?
Leong Keat Mun on 7 March 2008:
Wonder what will happen when this catches on with the celebrities? Maybe they’ll have their own rendition of the background music (Japura River by Philip Glass) and a little chat on how mobile entertainment has helped them closing of with a sentence that goes: “In the next episode…”.
Gurningbadger on 21 March 2008:
Yep your right. The Nokia N81 song is by Philip Glass called Japura River. You can find it on the album Aguas da Amazonia (feat. Uakti)
Taz on 4 May 2008:
can someone tell me if the voice on the add is brad pitt??
Peter Gransden on 31 May 2008:
Philip Glass - Japura River was a bit disappointing, the Nokia remix was better, check out Cliff Martinez - Don’t Blow It if you want that buzz.
