How To: Update Nokia N95 8GB Product Codes For Changing Language Packs

Update your Nokia N95 8GB to a firmware with your preferred language pack by changing the product code on your phone. Updating your Nokia N95 8GB to the latest firmware, and/or changing the language pack is similar to the guide I wrote earlier on changing the product codes in the Nokia N95-1. If you are a new Nokia N95 8GB owner, this might be helpful if you want a different language pack in your new phone.

Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.

  1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
  2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
  3. Click on the icon “Phone info”
  4. Click on “Scan”
  5. Change the product code to the one you want from the list below.
  6. Mark the case “Enable”.
  7. Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
  8. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
  9. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
  10. That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be upgraded!

Awsome stuff, this is exactly what I was looking for. One question though. What happens if I change the product code to SCANDINAVIAN but there is no scandinavian firmware released?
I dont know if the scandinavian firmware is released or not, its just the phone isn’t released in scandinavia.

You can change the code to SCANDINAVIAN, but if the Nokia Software Update doesn’t find an update, nothing will be downloaded.

“I dont know if the scandinavian firmware is released or not, its just the phone isn’t released in scandinavia.”

I live in Sweden and I’ve had my phone since last week (from the operator 3, http://www.tre.se)

Anyways… There aren’t any firmwares out yet (at all) for it so you’re stuck with your operator bundle until one is released. Right now the N95 8GB firmware seems to be v10.0.021, dated 29-09-07.

Taz: There aren’t country-specific codes, but EURO1 is probably what would be used for a phone sold in the UK.

    Hello!

First of all, thank you for great information Mark Guim regarding flashing of the N95 8GB!

Although, I do have one question for you. I’m planning to buy a Nokia N95 8GB in February when I’m going to the States on vacation. But, at the time I will buy the phone, many firmwares might have been released and there will be a long time until a new update will show up. Maybe in June?

So, if I buy the phone with the newest firmware in February and I change the product code to Scandiavian – what will happen? Will it say “no new updates” since the newest American firmware is inside the phone, or will it download the newest Scandinavian firmware right away since the product code has been changes and NSU can’t find any Scandinavian firmware in the phone?

Thanks a lot for any help here! :)

[...] There is no slip case or leather case in the package as seen with the classic N95. Notably even for the classic N95, the slip case only came with units sold in Singapore and not anywhere else in the world (to the dismay of many N95 around the rest of the world). My phone is the Singapore variant of the N95 8GB, which means it’s not a parallel imported model, etc, you can check the country codes here. [...]

Thanks for the great tutorial. Still need to figure out if it works for me. What I did find is the code for the Hong Kong version, which is #0557877. This version has the languages English, Indonesia and Pilipino built in. Now hopefully put it into the EURO1 region. Thanks once again!

    Yo!

Uk Voda 8Gb code is 0557135.

If you change it to Euro1 0549487 the update works fine. Updater quoted 11.0.026 (latest version in answer to chandru) for both current AND update (coz I already did it once before learning of NSS) but the procedure goes ahead anyway.

The result was BYEBYE logo hello unbranded!

no need to type # symbol, just the product code is ok. you can even check the code that u write by using the read button after update the product code.
should update it when the line (your internet service) when less busy. it take me almost 1 hour ++ to update malaysia version 108mb.

    I just changed my N95 8G product code from 0556218 (US) to 0557980 (Hongkong/china),
My firmware already V15.0.0.15 before I changed product code.

When I do a update in PC suite, it said that I already have latest fw though I changed product code.

I know 0557980 (Hongkong/china) also have V15.0.0.15, which include chinese language.

how can I reflash my firmware to the new Hongkong fw?

    reply to cat and mark.
    please refer the entire thread.
and cat for the n82, u might have to do a google search for “unbranded nokia n82 product codes” so that u can use them in place of the one that u already have,
similarly mark, for japanese, do a google search in a similar way to get the product code for japanese model. change to desired prod code and then update the firmware using nokia software updater.
    cheers.

    @ kar33m

the old product code is written under the batree on your mobile phone. use the same nss system to change back to the old prod code. mostly Uk Voda 8Gb code is 0557135. (but still check under you batree.)
after changing the prod code and updating the firmware, try using the unlock code from vodafone to unlock ur phone.( and please do tell me how u got the unlock code from them?)
and then to get the firmware v 15 u can always change the prod code to 0534841 after it is unlocked and run the update again.

    cheers.
    hope i could help.

hey great news to all you vodafone users
vodafone has started giving unlocked pones since 1st march.
just give them a call and ask for a unlock code and they will give it to you.

note: debrand it only after unlocking the phone else if the product code is changed then theunlock code will not work.

    cheers junaid.

hey avi, just advising you on possible scenarios that might have happened.

u also need the software called “tnt enforcer” to be able to change the prod code in nss.

and if u have it, did u enable it?

if u enabled it, did u click “write” in the nss after u wrote the desired prod code?

if u need the tnt enforcer, mail me on jrmerchant@gmail.com and i will send it right over in a rar file.

    ok cheers.

glad i could be of help.

p.s. vodafone cs sucks, i called them up for a nuc code ( to unlock the phone from the network) and the dame says 700+ quid. mailed them on the forum and got an instant reply.
also the nuc codes for all vodafone pay monthly cust is free irrelavent of the age of the handset. the pay as u go cust can obtain the nuc code from vodafone by paaying 19.99(inc. vat)

do try the truphone applicaton, it is great for having an internet phone on ur current phone, and u can have free roaming if u just have an internet connection.
also u can call all gtalk users all over the world and vice-a-versa straight from ur phone.
    yes it is free.
    no i dont market it.
i am just freeking out wit it. lol
    bye for now.

Have any of you experience syncing problems since changing the product code and after updating the firmware.

I used euro code above to update Vodaphone, now debranded which is all fine but PC sync won’t allow install or sync in win XP ??

Should I have formated the hard disk 1st or done a hard reset which means loosing all my apps & info.

But would do it if it fixed the problem.

Are their any specific product codes for the UK N95 8Gb as their seem to be a few, which do you choose & does it matter ?

    Thanks

Sounds like you have one of the nokia clones.
My friend bought one on EBAY commonly known as NOKLA n95. not an 8gb. usually coming with about 512mb – 1gig micro sdram.
His nokla also came out with those exact three options and the MT6227 when comport was selected.
These phones are preloaded with their own chinese software. non symbian.
    n95 8gb’s are N95-2 & RM-320
The clones cannot be updated unfortunately. Nor have my attempts to find software for them been successful.
Let me know if u ever find any updates for that phone. :)

Hi, last week I bought a N95-2 8GB in the Nokia store in Heathrow terminal 5. It has product code 0558787 and I could upgrade to V20.

Seems very stable, and nice to get the “Rotate screen” function.

Changing the Produce Code some how caused the Manufacture Month to change, it changed from 48.something to 53.something. Is this normal and expected behavior? Should I bother correcting it?

    Hi,

I also have a problem with NSS. I uninstalled NSU but don’t have a cd with me to install the NSU from it. I want to use p.code 0550379 (balkans) for which v.20 is available. It’s N95 8GB. Hope it will work ’cause I’m going crazy :(

Hi, I’d like to change the language support/options of my US version N95 RM-160 into one that supports Chinese. From the tutorial in this website, it seems all so easy as long as I choose a correct product code such as the one in Hong Kong, or in Malaysia, etc, and followed by a Nokia Software update. This is really great.

Please enlighten me with one concern though. Is the hardware of my phone (as mentioned earlier) exactly the same as those in Hong Kong or Malaysia? I seem to read somewhere that not all N95 phones are equipped with identical hardwares. If not, are there dangers?

    I’ll be really grateful.

    Stone.

After reading the entire posts. I’m even more confused. I don’t really understand all the code system you’ve mentioned. I baught my N95 8GB in Canada (unlocked) it’s N95-2. what does it means? I tried to update the firmware and it says my version (15.0.015) is up to date and no other updates, as apposed to what people wrote about the new v20. in the end all N958GB owners get the same updates, right? if not, what should I do?

Guys, you have to install the older version of Nokia software suit you have on CD, preferably on a 2nd computer. After that, download and run Nemesis. When you have done that, plug in your phone on the 1st computer and reinstal Nokia software updater.

This have to be done because Nemesist does not work with the newest Nokia Software Suit

    Hi everybody
lots of product codes (thanks!) but… what languages are in each code? In my 0550798 code for Rusian phones I can choose between English, Russian, German, Bulgarian,Hungarian,Romanian and Ucrainian. Same for the writing language (that is, T9 dictonaries). I am perfectly happy with the english menu, but I write mostly in Italian, then English, Spanish and chut chut Russky. So the question is: which product code I have to use with Nemesis to flash the phone? Can live without Russian (what a waste on the keybord!) but can’t live without Italian and English. Thanks and please, as a service to fellow users/consumers, post the languages include in your own product.

Swisscom product code for the N95 8GB seems to be 0557802 – just to update the list.

Both Swisscom and Nokia here seem to think it’s the other side’s responsibility to fix the phone to get the latest updates.

    unlocking and debranding are different,
no it will not unlock your phone for other networks; for that u need a bb5 unlocker, or call up orange and ask them for a nuc (network unlock code)

I did this last year with my Orange branded N95. I am currently considering the N95 8GB but I have a problem with the product codes that have been shown.

I currently use the Orange “line 2″ facility. When I went to “Euro1″ with my N95 I lost that facility. I subsequently changed the product codes to a “Carphone Warehouse” product code. This brought back line 2.

Does anyone know whether “Line 2″ (ALS) is supported in the “Euro 1″ product code in the 8GB handset? If not, is there an equivalent “Carphone Warehouse” product code for 8Gig N95?

For the N95 8GB from Rogers the code for the update to work is “0561948″.I have try it and
it work very good.It updated from 11.2.011 to
20.2.005 and also debranded the phone.

    N95-8GB has diferent versions

    N95-1
    N95-2
    N95-3
    N95-4

For the updater to work you need a product code
that matchs your version of N95-8GB.Codes from the tree first version are Maybe interchangable
i dont know but i know that the N95-4 is the NORTH AMERICAN version and the code starts with
“056″ and all the other versions with “054″ or “055″.

If anywone has a N95-4 please post your product code.

    N95 8GB(N95-4)

    “0564753″ english,francais,portugues and espanol.

I have N95-4 8G RM-421 and I bought it from Rogers , I unlocked to work in UK. the orignal prodcut code is #0564753 with firmware version 11.2.011 and I the only possible change I could use to update to 20 is to use product code #0561948 but unfortunatly it added new language which chinese.

With orignal firmware , I was able to read Arabic SMSs not with new firmware (20) I can’t..

Does anyone have any idea how to go back to original firmware ? or to add Arabic language support ?

Local Nokia retailer could not help me !

    You help is much apperciated.

    hello there,

yesterday i wanted to install dutch language to my UK bought n95 8GB.
i installed nemesis and latest software updater.
when i plugged in the phone windows did not ask me to install new drivers.
it took me several attempts to read the language code on my phone and i managed to change it to EURO2 : #0550359

I then looked for update but it told me that there were no updates available.
the problem is that there is still no dutch language and i can’t reflash my phone to reset it as it keeps telling me that there is no update(before changing the code i could reflash my phone even if there were no updates)
i have several applications(Nokia Maps for example) that are not functioning properly and I really want to reflash my phone.
I have also tried to rechange the language code but nemesis does not see my phone anymore.
If there is anyone that can help me that person will be put on my christmas card list for this year :D .

    @nossy,
firstly you have to understand this is a debranding process not a flashing proces.

and please any one before getting into the same issue that nossy has got into,
i strongly suggest that you check if there are updates for the present product code or the one that you wish to change to.
    use the links below.

    http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014?N95_8GB
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/link?cid=EDITORIAL_799358

in case there are no updates available, you can always “reinstall” the same firmware again with the new product code. and get your desired debranded language and a phone that does not have the operator customisations.

    now back to nossy.

try pinging your phone that is to run the NOKIA software updater(this is only if it does not detect your phone)and with your phone connected via USB keep pressing the power switch multiple times(do not hold lng enough to make the phone start) press and release and press and release
i hope it is understood that the “pinging” process is used by nokia in their workshops.
and it is something that needs patience and has to be done really quickly till the nokia software updater discovers your phone in recovery mode and updates it

now what you have to do is reinstall the firmware if there is no update.
after doing all this if you so desire to roll back to the old product code, it will be possible.

    i hope i could help.

    cheers

Hi. I have a N95-2 Vodafone UK that was at current firmware. I successfully changed the location id to 0549487 and then installed the NSU … everything was going fine, until 7 minutes left, communications to phone lost… i thought maybe my battery (but it was showing full bars before I started…) so I plugged it in, and have been removing and replacing the battery as per instructions, but so far, all I have is a brick…. :’( any suggestions?

    hello Junaid,

thanks for your poste but I already managed to get the software to recognize the phone, your part about checking for updates helped a lot though.I also found out that the original productcode is on the sticker underneath the battery.
I managed to change the productcode back to the original one but I have a question:

Is it possible to manipulate the phone so u can downgrade the firmware and then upgrade again(with the language of choice?).

now that I have the original productcode again whenever i look for an update it tells me that I already have the latest update but that I can reinstall my phone if I want.

This was not working when I changed the productcode though.(is it possible to change the codes and then reinstall the phone with the language that comes with that productcode?)

cheers for replying, christmas card will be sent out on 22nd of decembre ;)

After doing much research, i think there aren’t much solutions to what i can do about my n95-4.

what i did was, starting with a v10.xxx, NSS-ed it to hongkong/china, then upgraded fw to v20.2.005 (which was for the american n95-4). but apparently, the emerging asia and hongkong/china product codes only support fw up to v20.0.016.

so for a few months now, thinking my phone is bricked, wifi doesn’t work and buggy services (i don’t even subscribe to 3g)..

btw, i can’t NSS it because the firmware is too new, so it’s not recognized, giving me error in what seems like hex or memory

all i can hope for are just a few solutions that i conclude can be possible:
-nokia releases firmware for the asian product codes that will update my phone and *magically* fix everything.
-a new version of NSS that allows me to swap product code back, hopefully enabling lost services
-i haven’t read too much on the phoenix stuff (essentially nokia engineer/technician way), but it seems like i might totally brick it if i try.
-since i debranded (although i bought it from dell w/o a branding), hopefully i can email and send it in to nokia, altho warranty is voided, they’ll either fix it (for a low cost) or some solution that doens’t require me to pay too much

I apologize if any of the above info is incorrect.

    Anyone, please adivse, please help

i apologize in advance for the long posts…

some maybe interested in this link if they haven’t seen it elsewhere
    http://iunlock.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=23_40&products_id=866

also, I seemed to have used NSS wrong..
    check it here
    http://www.howardforums.com/printthread.php?t=1384454

basically, install NSS as #1 virtual usb device, not the other choices…

i reinstalled my fw, (i guess that could be called a flash… to the same version), i didn’t lose all data though, so i guess it’s not a flash either, lol. my problem remains though, can’t uninstall certain 3rd party apps that are on the memory card portion of the phone, and can’t connect to the internet… will do more research to find out…

If you installed Nokia PC Suite (http://europe.nokia.com/pcsuite) you can just connect your N95 to your PC and click on Software Updater on the Nokia PC Suite main menu. This should automatically check for the latest firmware available for your phone and install it.

I am pretty sure if you have a Rogers Nokia N95 8GB it should display the Arabic text fine. If you’re talking enabling writing in Arabic then I think you might be heading for a brick wall. I suggest buying an N95 8GB from the Middle East as they come equipped with a special firmware that takes Arabic input into consideration.

I have noticed a problem on my nokia n95-8gb. Sometimes when i slide it upwards to take a call I have to hit the green answer key. It should automatically go into answer mode…but sometimes it still shows its ringing in the slide up mode, and I have to hit the answer button …. Was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem …. nothing major but was wondering if its a bug in the software or Interfering application… also my phone is hacked.

the nokia n95 8gb should answer the call if the slider is pushed up.

unless ofcourse u have installed third party applications that manupilate the slider.
(there are certain 3rd party programms that actually manupilate the slider function. i.e/- make the phone goes silent on slide up, reject call on slider down)

in case if you have installed(or not fully uninstalled) these 3rd party programms they could intefere with your phone slider.

furthermore, i dont understand when u say “also my phone is hacked.” do u mean unlocked?
or have u changed the product code or …..???

any way do take a lok at this site for getting your slider corrected in case the above dont work.
but be careful as it involves a lot of patience and a steady hand.

Hacked meaning running a Trk application on my handset that allows me to root sign applications and put them on my phone.

The thing is if I take a call and slide it up, sometimes I have to hit the green answer key.

I also think its a 3rd party application…but am not sure.

I am Currently running Garmin mobile xt and slide helper which end calls with a slide down … as well as rotate me.

Also wondering if I can update my phone to the ver 30.0.018 … I’m using the standard product code at the moment 0561948 which only gives me ver 20.2.005 … my phone is a Rogers model Rm421.

    Thanks

    @Aruna,

I also have a T-mobile UK N95 8gb. I am going to get pay to get it unlocked as T-mobile UK wanted to me write a hand letter to them in the UK and wait 28 to 32 says to receive my code. I want to know if I were to change the product code after its unlocked so that I can remove the Tmobile software, will it damage the phone? It is UK, I heard that you cant debrand a US n95. But is the UK okay to debrand? Thank you.
