How To: Hack S60 Nokia Phones

This guide will be referenced to many times in the future, so I am posting the instructions to hacking your S60 Nokia phones now. Hacking your S60 phone will let you install unsigned applications without a hassle and even apply some patches if you like. It’s much easier than I thought!

Steps To Hack Nokia S60 Phone

  • Install freeware X-plore, a file manager from Lonely Cat Games. Run X-Plore, press 0 and check first 4 boxes. Don’t exit.
  • Install and run HelloCarbide by FCA00000.
  • Switch to X-plore and check if you can see the contents of C:/sys/. If you can, then you are halfway done. If not, try step 2 again.
  • Download CapsOnOff.rar by FCA00000.
  • Copy CProfDriver_SISX.ldd from RAR downloaded above into C:\sys\bin of your phone. You can do this with X-Plore.
  • Install CapsOn.sisx and CapsOff.sisx. Run CapsOff application to turn on the hack.
  • Download SIS installer mod for Symbian 9.2 and copy installserver.exe file to c:\sys\bin\ so you can install unsigned applications
  • Install ROMPatcher by Zorn.
  • Whenever you need to install an unsigned application or patch your phone, just run the CapsOff application first. CapsOn brings it back to normal state.

If I see any useful patches that interests me, I’ll make sure to mention it. There really isn’t much right now. Take a look at the SF modding forums for new patches. They were the source of these instructions.

Now that you have a hacked Nokia S60 phone, try installing some unsigned applications! I recommend MagicKey for remapping buttons or the latest version of S60 Screenshot v3.03 to take screenshots from your phone.

What an excellent post, I will try this when I'm back home, maybe I can figure out a way to hack my phone so my GPS works better also.....
    Thanks!
  • a bit outdated... there's an all-in-one .sis that install everything needed in one step now :-)

    google for drakkarious.sis
  • CapsOn will not stop you from being able to install unsigned apps with this method. When using this, there's no way to turn off the ability to install unsigned apps without removing installserver.exe.

Why not just use Symbian Signed?

    https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/page/public/o...

I've found it to always work for me & doesn't require 50 wackadoo steps to get going.
  • @Anthony not all apps can be signed with opensigned.
  • is there possibility to disable and enable capabilities ?

    Hello Pal

Great Job!!! Its exactly what I've been waiting for a long time.
  • Nitrius
Worked for me. But i don't quite understand what CapsOn and CapsOff is supposed to do, whatever i use, i can always seem to install unsigned applications.
  • CapsOn and CapsOff is just for activating or DEactivating the access to the system files. no matter if you have them activated, you'll always be able to install unsigned apps! :)
  • Thanks Michael (beerbong!) for clearing that up. I don't exactly know how all of it works, but I'm glad it does.
  • it's my pleasure marc! ;)
many people find capson/off easier to use, but ROMPatcher, used in this Guide (http://www.symbian-freak.com/quides/hack/s60_3r...) does the job as well and will activate/deactive the 3rd ed measures in it's menu! Capson/off is additional so to say .. drop me a mail or leave a comment here if you have any further questions!
    Cheers
  • Nitrius
    Thanks for the answer.

Got another question here, what are "SIS installer mod for Symbian 9.2" for? or what does it do?
  • the sis installer mod actually contains the installserver.exe. if this file is placed in C:/sys/bin, you're able to install unsigned Applications!
  • dany
    what's ROMPatcher for?
  • ROMPatcher is the Programm that let's you enable/disable the security measures (like Caps On/Off), but also let's you apply some handy little Patches, which you can also find at the Symbian Freak Forum Section!

If Mark is cool with it, i can link you directly to the Patches Index! ;)

@ Mark: i hope you don't mind that i take over the Comments! haha .. ;)
  • @michael lol not at all. Thanks for being helpful. I provided a link to the SF Modding forums in the article for those who were curious to find out more about the hacks. I go there daily to find anything new.
  • That's just great!! :)
    Take Care my Friend

Does this hack work on new Nokia E71 ? BinPDA's rootsign does not, so my only hope is if anyone has actually used this method, mentioned here, on their Nokia E71 ?
  • I'd like to remind you all about one little thing; When Capabilities Checking are disabled (Caps Off), the phone's security is pretty much down aswell, so i recommend having Caps On all the time and use Caps Off when you actualy need it. However, so far its not possible to get viruses without installing them, so there is not a big danger, but I still recommend being carefull, and installing software only from trusted sources.

  • Hacking a phone wont affect the ability of Upgrading firmware
  • Freddy
