We told you about an 8 megapixel Nokia Nseries to be announced at MWC and we were right! Nokia haven’t announced it at MWC yet, but Lester Chan from Singapore has taken close-up photos of the device from Showcase Nokia 2009. It is labeled as the Nokia N86 8MP.

Let’s take a look!

  2. What in the world are they thinking!! Nokia is like 6 months behind with this phone, didnt they see the SE Ivalo (or whatever). Or the Omnia HD!!!!!!!!!!!! This phone N86 is just like my N85, pure cr**. The Dual-Slide was a hit back in the day, now people want smartphones to look interesting and more like computers.

  3. I feel physically sick, no kidding. What a let down. No Xenon, no wow factor, nothing.

Nokia is being walked all over from SE, Samsung, and now even LG have released a transparent phone, beating the Neon range Nokia was all too keen to mention ages ago.

  4. @Micky, I agree. I hope Nokia isn’t done announcing devices this week.

  5. n85+ 8mp = n86?
    its too old.. i mean..

    Sony Ericsson = 12MP Idou
Samsung = 8MP HD VIDEO OMNIA
NOKIA = Nothing but an old n85 with 8mp??!!
    wth!?!?!

btw, all of them are symbian phones!

  6. Thanks for the link =)

  7. Just seen some new phones announce by Nokia in Barcelona but the N86 was not one of them ,there was 3 new 5 mega-pixel camera mobiles an 2 new “E” series mobiles ,so will the N86 be announced later by Nokia or not,i hope it is,so Please Nokia get it announce an make sure this it not a rumour from websites

  8. Thanks but no thanks. I’ll stick with my xenon N82.

  9. Anybody saw the video release of the E75? Nokia is saying it is the NEW communicator?! Strike 2 Nokia.

  10. Is it REALLY too much to ask for a decent screen resolution, 5mp and over with a Xenon flash? Really?

  11. [...] Vía TheNokiaBlog [...]

  12. @Mark, I agree about the screen resolution, 240×320 is not enough for web browsing and especially with flash, ajax etc. Throw a fast processor in there with a higher resolution and keep some of us happy!

  13. people pulling Nokia down already,o.k 8 mega-pixel camera mobiles from Samsung an Sony Ericsson were not as good as the N95b 8gb so Nokia thought it was a waste of timing challenge the two others but now its here, people slagging Nokia down now taking them that long to release there first 8 mega-pixel mobile

  15. lol.. what a joke.. Still no replacement for my N82.. Nokia damn… whats wrong with you?

  16. so no sucessor to the n82 – what jokers – xenon flash makes the photos amazing and they’ve done it successfully before, what is the big deal?

i’m seriously considering getting a sony ericsson – i’ll just stick a nokia ringtone on there, job done lol

  19. I think that Nokia know what they do… Samsung had to bring the innov8 with 8mpx camera to take the best camera phone title of the Nokia N82 with 5mpx camera… so i think that the n86 have a good camera… but I dont know 8mpx without xenon flash??? its not good for me…
PD. Im latin-american… pls forgive my errors.. :P .. lol

  20. It will be interesting to see if this new aperture will make a big enough difference to overcome the lack of xenon flash.

  21. The problem is that Nokia is now only trying to match the competition and in doing so they are being beaten. The styling on this phone is awful – whats with the MASSIVE SPACE BELOW THE SCREEN. What we need is a cross between the n86 and the n97 with a xenon flash, hd video recording (at at least 60fps), OPTICAL ZOOM and a capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch. We also need some new cammera setting options, we been stuck with the current options for years – what about face detection, smile detection etc.

PLEASE NOKIA, WOW US WITH A PHONE LIKE YOU DID WITH THE N95 (Only with good firmware).

who told you that samasung 8mp (inov8) was not good as the 5mp n95? read some reviews my friend.. inov8 is totally better than n82/n95..
compare the pictures taken from those two phone, and you will see..

  27. Nothing can overcome the lack of xenon. The light burst that xenon creates to capture the moment without any blur is just not replacable.
I have started considering a switch from Nokia now. I have been sticking to my trusty N82 and will do so. But the moment someone comes with better screen resolution, 5MP xenon with QWERTY, they gonna have my cents.
Nokia has started stinking. How can they ignore (howsoever small this community may be) xenon lovers???

  28. Comparing Nokia with other brands as SE, LG and Samsung is quite childish.

Some comparing with SE 12mp and Omnia HD. If every phone company produce ONLY high-end phone, what will happen with middle or lower income people? And its the mid spec phone which contribute the most. Namely, nokia 6300 and n85.

Its easy to say if you got the money right?

Personally, i really like the design and spec of this n86, even i do own an n85 now. This is what you say originality.

Nokia users will understand, and tell me any other brand can provide service and software such as OVI, Nokia Maps, better or as good as NOKIA?

Nokia really keeping their play close to the chest.

  30. the n86 is nice but not an n82 replacement. xenon flash would have been perfect, but they didn’t. it kind of resembles the n97 but dual slides like the n95. now sony ericsson’s 12.1mp shooter is a charm. i love nokia because of s60, but the new sony ericsson is running it, so i might just pick that baby up when released.

    time to step up NOKIA.

  31. I am really deceived with Nokia. It does not take into consideration the suggestion of users like SE & Samsung does! They released an “8MP Cameraphone” that lacks a Xenon flash which is a basic thing in any cheap camera. The reason is the same as in Nokia N97.They are going to use the flash as video light. If they really wanted to to that ,they could have put the LEDs along with a Xenon flash like Sony Ericsson did in K850i & C905i!Now we wont be able to get neither a good photo nor video in the dark.It will still have the blueish tint that we get when using LEDs in the dark. The photos in the dark are going to su#* even if the phone has a 3rd generation dual LED flash.Dual LEDs can’t be compared to a Xenon which is way brighter than LEDs.

They could also have increased the resolution of the OLED screen from a standard QVGA(320×240) which is already outdated to atleast one like in the new Nokia 6260s which has a HVGA(320×480).At 2.6in”,it does make a difference when seen with the naked eyes. The 6260s screen has doubled the number of pixels N86 8MP has!The images looks finer on that display.

Nokia is no more what it was 3 years ago, when it released the Nokia N95.They can no more impress us.They just make the same phones with minors changes in functions & change in its design.Nokia then sells it at almost double the price! They rely on their diminishing brand name for charging high price!

At this rate,it wont be long before seeing Nokia losing its first place to Samsung,HTC & Sony Ericsson who innovates all the time with novelties.Nokia is lagging behind in all departments.Be it camera, design, innovation, hardware, etc…If Nokia doesn’t do anything right now, they are going to lose lots of Nokia hardcore fans and I am one among them….

  33. Ok, we heard you the first time.

Nokia’s argument, and reasoning behind NOT using Xenon, is in actual fact, new technologies being used in the N86 lens. Its the widest lens in any of Nokia’s handsets, it’s also been discussed in the Q&A today by Igor that these new technologies, increase the quality of low light conditions, thus the reason to no longer use the Xenon, asd the dual led has been proven in tests to perform just as well.

That being said, i would like to see proof of this myself, side by side shots in the same conditions for example. We have already see marks own photo case studies here with single, dual led’s, and Xenon, but we really need to see some examples from this N86 before we can dismiss Xenon.

    just my 2 cents

  34. Like many people, I’m holding out for a N82 replacement with a xenon flash. If Nokia want to convince me that the new lens on the N86 combined with their latest 3rd gen LED flash is as good as xenon, I’m going to have to see some pretty conclusive proof.

Also, as according to the Nokia road that surfaced a while back, this is the N85 revamp. If that’s so, then have we still got a 8mp, 3″ screen, candybar Nokia to come too?….

  35. The N86 in White looks Brilliant an will definetly be my next mobile i will be getting,o.k Samsung started the 8 mega-pixel race, but the software on Samsung mobiles is not on Par with Nokia,Samsung make good looking mobiles but the features on there mobiles do not match Nokia anyway,

  36. Hi,

    1st time poster here!

Im kinda confused, nokia have boosted up a n85 (good starting point) and turned it into highly polished product but why the heck did they leave the screen the same size??

Surely alot of peeps use the pics catpured with the phone as a wallpaper??

And with every other company and its aunt currently increasing screen size this looks kinda half assed by by our Finnish friends

    WHAT GIVES NOKIA?

This is really infuriating as i currently have a N95 (was a proud owner since day of release) and have been waiting with Zen like patience for a decent upgrade but the N86 (loooove the 8MP) is already starting to look kinda flawed!

Im just gona wait on the N97 now (im praying that by time of release they give it the N86 camera!)

    Peace!

  38. As a nokia fan, I’m sure I’m not the only one, to say – WTF?!!!

This should have been the n85 – what a joke, no xenon and 8gb is standard – we should be looking toward 32gb. Nokia is really lagging behind.

I won’t be upgrading to a Nokia anytime soon.

I can only hope they sort out their act and have a surprise on the way, but I highly doubt it.

  39. @k,

lol the same comment as on gsm arena!

    same here!

  41. @nkav,

Yup, I felt the need to spread my disappointment lol

Here is something I added on another site.

It is just an n85 rehash – there are loads of solid, reliable nokia models.

It’s not just about pushing the specs – having an n82 successor and xenon flash is not a big ask. We should have seen this ages ago.

It is disappointing because we know Nokia can make amazing phones and they are resting on their laurels. Fans are usually harsh on companies (like Nintendo) because they don’t meet the high standards they themselves set.

Like Wesker from Resident Evil 5 says – Poor performance indeed!

  42. @k,
    lol @ spreading the disappointment!

Wat do you think the chances are the new camera will make it into other nokia handsets?? (namely the N97)

Talking of fans being harsh, it was the reason that alot of peeps gave sony the finger for the bs around the ps3

So nokia kinda needs to pull its head outta its ass!

  43. although nokia is late still the taste and glamour for a Superb Camphone is still at for nokia becoz of the big focal view for cam. goodjob!

  44. Everyone is Slagging Nokia down for just upgrading the camera on the N85 to call it the N86,but they might be think of people budgets nowdays, an they would have got slagged down more releasing an mobile to expensive for most buyers, but this will show the C905 an i8510 up,but with June the release date another late release time from Nokia which seems odd from them again,Why? do the announce phones to early then 6 months before they are released

  45. Actually I found this link where it says that 3rd gen dual-led flash or those with supercapacitors are more efficient and can provide brightness equaling or surpassing xenon
    here’s the link

    http://www.philipslumileds.com/pdfs/CS09-xenon_vs_LED_flash.pdf

  46. I read this too about the Flash, be interesting to see how good it is in the flesh. Just doesn’t make sense that a LED flash could be better than a xenon flash.

  47. I’ve been saying this for a while now, same phone slightly different specs. 8 megapixels on virtually the same phone is silly. Its nice to see they stepped up their camera game, but why the same cruddy resolution on the screen.

    http://thenokiablog.com/2008/10/14/to-nokia/

  48. @Edward,

hey bro..nokia is consist of thousands of workers and hundreds of big person who decides. compare the 8mp of some company to the 8mp of n86.. lets see who will beg mercy.

dude the best 8mp coz of wide cam view(aperture) and an amazing OLED for a phone like that

  49. @Micky, review the 3rd Gen dled dude.

  50. @n82isgreat, dont judge the book by its cover hehe. Idou is still a prototype dude. lets see how the 3rd gen dled works dude

  51. @Eric, still no n82 successor..but an n85 successor

  52. @jam, hmm ur ryt no n82 successor but n86 is awesome for me ^^

  53. @DanielN82, dude we are not looking for a big xenon party 3rd gen dled is d best dled for both video and for Camera. A little difference between 3rd gen dled and a Xenon. 3.5meters for dled and about 4-5meters for xenon.

  54. @James, with a price that 2million people can afford?

we are talking here business not a phone only

  55. @Ashu, we are talking also of video capturing not only in a picture taking table.

we haven’t tried the 3rd gen dled so lets w8

  56. @Cornelius, your ryt bro….email me so we can combine forces heheh.

some people cant understand how n85 is doing and how hundreds of people from nokia form this beautiful product. n86 is the beast for 8mp.

Idou is still a CONCEPT and a prototype. lets see how the ball will bounce when all phones are get laid.

  57. @bradley, n86 is awesome but for some reason they made an n85 successor not an n82 successor. the spec for n86 is best. Nokia has a reason for everything

  58. @Xpress0705, reason dude… nokia consist of many people not only one.

creating a phone then who will buy? 2million people?

its a fact that nokia is still the best.

Iduo is still a prototype!

  59. @Micky, ryt bro

  60. @Jambo, price does matter..what if they create a 2.8″ phone? then who will buy? 2millions only?

price, eco, suitability, usability, innovations and some sorts of specs for n86

  61. @Andy Burgin, ryt choice bro

  62. @Nkav, bro phone for all not phone for riches.

also the standard screen size is now 2.4″

2.6″ is quiet a difference

  63. @k, hays…price does matter..why d heck nokia make a phone that only few people can buy it.

  64. @Andy Burgin, ryt dude

  65. @nics, ryt bro..tnx..once again 3rd gen DLED is superb..better in many ways than Xenon

  66. @Nokia N86 Review, your wrong..

dled generation is now starting its battle. hehe

  67. @Andrew Leung, becoz of many reasons. one of them is that the innovations for the nseries with the line of n81, n85, n86 is just starting.
