Vlog: Nokia N97 With Synchronized Contacts Using Google Sync

I told you about Google Sync with push contacts and calendar on May. I really love how I can edit my phonebook and be able to access or edit it online with any computer. You have to see it in action to really appreciate this FREE feature. Take a look.

You can also watch this video in HD on Youtube.

In this video demo, I am using the Nokia N97, but it should also work with other Nokia phones.

I noticed that whenever I make changes on Google Contacts with a computer, it automatically syncs with the phone within 10-30 seconds. Changes or additions on the phone seems to show up online within 10 minutes automatically. You can do a manual sync if you are impatient.

Want to synchronize your contacts list too? Just follow the instructions on m.google.com/sync

Can it work with multiple phones at once?
  • Yup.. I've set it up on the N97 and iPhone. Works fine.
  • Perfect. I am always screwing up when I switch handsets (losing the contacts) ... you would have thought that I would have figured it out by now! Syncing contacts is hopefully going to keep me out of trouble in the future.

Nice. I use my E71 and N97 on and off a lot, although I haven't really touched my E71 for almost 2 weeks now. I've been trying the Ovi Contacts and Calendar sync on Ovi.com. It's not bad, but I can't figure out how to get it to automatically sync. I like the fact that it syncs all my notes too with the server, but I might give this a try. I just have to wonder though; if you accidentally delete a contact from one phone, and don't have your other phone with you, Google Sync is going to delete it from the server and your other phone as well when you switch SIM cards, right?
  • Tried this on my 5800, absolutly killed the battery (less than 1/2 day without any use!) so I have had to set this to manual sync which is not so bad as your contacts and calendar don't change so much
  • you can also set it to every 12 hours so you don't have to do it manually every day.

Use Roadsync instead of MFE to sync all-day items and tasks correctly!
  • thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try

Is there a way to install Mail for Exchange on the Mass Memory and not the Phone Memory?
  • Great video, but when I go on m.google.com/sync it says that my device is not support ?
Should I use Mail For Exchange ? I cannot find any version for the N97 ?
  • There's a copy of the installer hiding in the C:/installation/ folder on your N97. Use Y-Browser (or other) to get access to the folder and run the file.
  • I think I used the one for the Nokia 5800. Try that and let us know if it works.

With Nokia Email (email.nokia.com) you can use Hotmail, Google Mail or almost whatever e-mail with push for free. And the push feature is very fast. Also folders, contacts etc. sync.

I use it to several accounts: web e-mail accounts and IMAP/POP accounts.

For some strange reason in Nokia Email app in the phone the 'roaming sync' has to be turned on for the push to work.
