The Nokia Blog’s Nokia N900 Hands-On Video

Can’t get enough of the Nokia N900? I’ve got a special Nokia N900 video walkthrough for you. Jussi Mäkinen, Marketing Manager at Maemo Devices (and a fan of The Nokia Blog), shows off the Nokia N900 for our camera. Take a look.

You can also watch this video in HD on Youtube.

In this video, you can see the how the contacts list works, the multiple home screens with Twitter and Facebook widgets, the quick and responsive transitions, and more. I don’t want to ruin it for you, so just watch the 6-minute video and let us know what you think!

It looks awesome, thanks for sharing.
I was checking functionality in the Nokia site, some drawbacks are the lack of video calling and MMS

I just can't get into it or become excited because of my N97 let down. But I'll stop pouting and watch your video now.

Can you do a video on the gaming part and ask them to run Bounce on the N900.

Also ask them if they will put gaming/n-gage on n900.

I the n900 running Bounce on another youtube video and it looks really good.

Generally it has good features but just as Jussi Mäkinen was explaining half way through , there was some connectivity problem?? Now, I am doubtful.

  • jason r. totten

note, i'll be changing service to t-mob in October if AT&T isn't going to get one :)

Didn't come to your mind, that Jussi was talking about Wifi connectivity? Lot of people using that same wifi there. So nothing to do with the device.

Please test the camera function. From the videos I've watch it seems to take a long time to save the picture into memory. Once you take a picture it said “Processing…” before letting you take another one. Also I haven't seen anyone test the video function of the phone. Also testing the on screen keyboard would be great. Without multi-touch I wonder I well it will function.

  • girish86

This phone seems to be awesome. Does anyone know whether its having kinetic scorlling??? Rest of the apps seems to be werking fine…!!!

    Hi all,
    this “mobile computer” is awesome.
I need one, I want one. I 'm really ready to change my mobile operator if mine don't get it.
at least I have one question, do you know, when the N900 is linked to a “not mobile computer (NMC as I will keep on calling PC) “, if this latter recognize the N900 as a mass storage?
as it's powered by a linux-based OS, I hope we will only have to mount the phone or even better it will automatically done as an USB key.

thanks for this blog, thanks Nokia for this Nokia World 09 and for the N900.
    b/r.

Hey Mark, the more and more I look at the N900 in stills and videos the more it strikes me just how much the ergonomics of the phone have been designed for two handed use in landscape mode… I currently have the N97 and am really impressed with how much thought Nokia put into the device's design from an ergonomics standpoint (it works great both with one hand in portrait mode and two hands in landscape mode), however looking at the N900 now I'm kind of dumb founded trying to make sense of their design decisions. Maybe the design decisions and intended usage method (due to their OS choice) are the main reason why Nokia has been hesitant to call the N900 a “smartphone” since it's announcement?

Whatever the case, looking at the N900's design I'm nonplussed to see that they moved the mini usb port from the side of the device (as in the N97) to the TOP of the device on this device (why Nokia, why? While I admit I'm occasionally bothered by the side placement of the mini usb port on the N97, I can't help but see the implementation and placement on the N900 driving me nuts!)?… Is that the power button that I've spied in various photos and videos on the side of the device in between the volume rocker and camera button? O_o Also, while I don't mind the 3.5 headphone jack on the bottom of the device (while looking at it in portrait mode), I DO kind of mind the lock/unlock key being placed on the bottom (again while in portrait mode) instead of something that makes more sense like say a MINI USB PORT. I also really personally prefer the speakers being located on the bottom on the corners of the device (in landscape mode) facing the user (ala the N97), the tilting screen of the N97 vs the vanilla slide out screen of the N900, and the Dpad on the N97 which didn't make it on to the N900 for some odd reason when you consider the design of all of the other Nseries tablets?… :(

While I understand that these phones take years and years to design and that the each phone 'in the works' has a team assigned to it, but aren't there people assigned to all of the teams that have some sort of oversight to ensure that there is some sort of design synergy between the various Nseries phones/teams? At the very least doesn't that person ensure that good design ideas that one team comes up with are implemented across the whole line on other similar models? Or, is this just a case of Nokia holding back features to differentiate two Flagship phones in a line released less than a year apart? Any of your professional insights into this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Awesome! I have included this video on my comprehensive N900 post :) Feel free to check it out as well.

Dammit. I leave T-mobile and this happens. Was going to get an iPhone, but if Nokia comes out with an AT&T version, I will never ever buy an iPhone, because this looks to be the total, complete device I've been wanting for years.

    Nokia, are you listening?

I’m confused. In what sense is this an internet tablet, rather than a smartphone? Is it because of the size?

  • Sakastik

    i wanna hear the sound/volume of N900..

is there anyone could post a video that plays music by N900?

    thanks

nokia please PORTRAIT mode I want to buy this phone please do it write dont mes soooooo good device

  • http://www.totten.org/ jason r. totten

you really want to talk to the team at Maemo then – they write the OS – I'm sure Nokia has pitched in, but to be honest, I don't mind the lack of portrait mode for now. I guess it's because I've had several internet tablets and I'm used to it. The phone dial pad works in portrait mode, and I imagine other apps will in time. Don't count on it for the launch though.

  • http://www.totten.org/ jason r. totten

I'll let you know when I get mine :) I was always pleasantly impressed with my N810, if that helps.

  • http://www.totten.org/ jason r. totten

See N770, N800, N810 – all internet tablets, this is the evolution of them adding mobile capabilities.

  • http://www.totten.org/ jason r. totten

ditto. of course, since T-Mobile treats Indianapolis, IN like a hill-jack cesspool and they don't have 3G here yet, I'll probably just stay with AT&T and use EDGE for now.

  • http://www.totten.org/ jason r. totten

Have you read any of the arguments on Cap vs. Resistive? Cap sucks in colder environments, even in Indiana for 3 months out of the year. Taking your gloves off to answer the phone is dumb. This is supposed to be a more sensitive resistive screen – I'm looking forward to testing it out.

  • cyl

is there a portrait mode? specially when texting….?

kind of used to one hand texting…
    specially when im busy….
i hope a portrait mode would be available as an option….

Nokia needs to come up with some features like Multi touch (as available in Iphone), digital compass, a better camera like 8 or 10 or 12 Mega pixel, a sleek design with a good typing key pad and not the different one like they had it on N97 or N900 a better than those ones, more memory and a wide screen than N900 or Iphone. With the above specifications Nokia surely will be a market leader in Mobile Industry.

  • Mike

    I have a boner

  • Mikki Hiiri

Better camera is on your opinion more pixels? Learn some photography. What you ever have done with digital compass. If i go to the forest i ll take real compass for sure.Wider screen? For what? I have laptop or like for bigger screens but i cannot put that i my pocket. N900 keypad is really good. Multitouch? Nice but not elementary… and maemo 6 will have it. And i thougt that Nokia is already market leader in mobile industry.

  • Name

Digital compass can be used for augmented reality apps

  • breathoffire

Have knowledge of what you're talking about before you speak ;) it has the full qwerty keyboard so the need for multi-touch is unecessary.
Also, if you did your homework, you would understand that after around 5 megapixels nothing else can possible change in the quality of a picture except the size. Anything above 5 megapixels just increases the size. More memory!?! and you dare compare this to the iphone!?! The n900 has a 32 GB hard drive, plus it can hold Micro-SD card up to 16GB – The iphone, only has 16 GB, No Memory Card support>.> As for the screen, t's the exact same size as the iphone. You noob, You and your entire comment have just been owned. You Fail.

  • HoOn

Nokia is already a Mobile Industry in the world. I don't think iPhones can compare on how many Nokias are being sold outside the United States alone.

hi can anyone tell me how you can change the size of the digits

  • Axella

I was very upset to lose the functionality of my calendar alarms! It’s the feature I used the most on my N95 8gb. I loved being reminded when I had an event coming up on the day. I knew the N900 came with a calendar – it simply didn’t occur to me that this phone would lack such an important feature. It’s a big backward step, to me. One of a few (like a crappy phone, and no MMS capability).

I tried inputting all of my ‘reminder” events via PC Suite, but the alarm didn’t sound on the phone (and we know we can’t input those things via the N900 itself).

Seriously, this phone has been a huge letdown to me, but then again, I’m not a programmer. There are nearly NO decent apps for it, and Nokia has been just awful in providing info on it or responding to people’s queries.

Does anyone know if there’s a calendar in the works like the old symbian-based one on the N95 8gb?
