I know it’s not out yet, but you can prepare by creating your own loopable wallpapers for the Nokia N900. Sometimes visuals are better than words, so I created this video to show you how to do it.

Quick steps

  • Get equirectangular photos
  • Crop it to 3200 x 480
  • Slice it into 4 images of 800×480 images
  • Create a .desktop file to group the images
  • Transfer the 5 files to N900/images folder

  • Great way of creating your own backgrounds!

Would be cool to share them.. btw, do you know how to do the same in Gimp?
  • Gimp?
    Simple -
    1. Crop to 3200x480
    2. Select from 0,0 to 800, 480 - copy, paste as new image.
    3. Invert selection
    4. Crop to selection
    5. Rinse and repeat until you do #4 and are left with a 800x480 portion.
    5. Save the images with useful enough names.
    6. Enjoy.
  • Sorry, but I don't have any experience with Gimp
