Firefox Release Candidate 1 Now Available for Maemo – Nokia N900 & N810

Mozilla just released the first release candidate (RC1) of Firefox for Maemo. The Nokia N900 and N810 are supported devices. If you’ve been running the beta, they say RC1 is more polished and that text rendering has improved. You can download it now at firefox.com/m.

Firefox Mobile brings the Awesome Bar, add-ons, Weave, and location-aware browsing according to the Mozilla FAQs page. I just installed it, so I will report what I think in the next post. In the meantime, download and check it out yourself if you have a Nokia N900 (or the N810). The team is asking for feedback or bug reports as well, so head over to bugzilla.mozilla.org if you find any.

    Its great. There is only one reason why I wont use it – it dont supports the zooming capability via finger circling like the original Maemo browser in N900 :(

    Its as slow as hell. Much slower than the built in browser. Not ready for prime time yet.

    Funny. Why N810 but not N800?
    WIshing it for a N770 its too much, I know – and Im quite happy to use MicroB, but the N810 and N800 are quite similar to each other…

    it is slow…i've gone back to the regular built in browser on my n900 for now. I also noticed the swirl zoom and volume rocker zoom don't work as they do with the native browser…and did I mention it's really slow?!?

    it is, but it's so much faster. it seems fennec is focused on the awesome bar, weave and tabs, but not so much on browsing speed. it was slower on both 3G and WiFi compared to the native mozilla browser.
