Let’s Take this Outside (the USA), Apple Sues Nokia in Britain

Reuters just reported that Apple has sued Nokia in Britain, extending their patent disagreements outside the US. Their legal battle started last October when Nokia sued Apple in the United States. A spokesman for Nokia said the recent claims are based on patents already in suit between the two companies in the US.

The battle quieted down in the last few months, but Apple certainly doesn’t want it to die down. Nokia said in October that Apple owed it royalties for using Nokia technology that allows such basic mobile tasks as sending email or downloading applications. Apple countersued, saying Nokia is infringing on Apple patents. Reuters said a spokesman for Apple in Britain was not immediately available for comment.

    Apple is one of the best corporations in filing waporware bs patents. Give up Steve, it´s just money. Save your face and be once (again) a man.

    Steve Jobs is an asshole. Why doesn’t he just pay royalties like every other phone maker?

    Taking on Symbian in the home of Symbian is not gonna work out too well for him.

    what patents is Apple claiming infringed though?

    I’ve read a few stories about their spat but never read specifically what Apple is claiming to be infringed?

    these patent suits will go on for decades though… Nokia will probably have purchased Apple before these cases end

    Apple thought Nokia would let them use GSM without royalties after Nokia spend millions of dollars developing the global mobile networking infrastucture?

    Apple pissed off the wrong people. Apple must understand that Nokia or Nokia-Siemens networks basicly owns at least a part of every current mobile networking technology. Nokia has the money to spend years in the court and theyre not backing down. They know they can get percentage from every phone phone on the planet. If nokia wanted, they could probably stop the iphone deliveries and there is no easy wanted apple can go around those patents. you cant make phone with out network technology and nokia owns those network patents.

    I don’t know what patent apple is suing, but i assume those are either software or UI patents. Those are easier to avoid and harder to defend in court.
