Symbian UI Overhaul & Phones with Optical Zoom Expected Next Year
Senior Manager Gunther Kottzieper shared some of Nokia’s plans for 2011 at the International Mobile Internet Conference in Beijing on Tuesday. According to Kottzieper, first quarter of 2011 will include more than 50 enhancements to Symbian, including an updated browser with a more intuitive user interface. The second and third quarter will bring “a new look and feel for the UI. The fourth quarter will introduce more powerful CPU and graphics processors and last but not least, a “true zoom camera.”
This news from Computerworld echoed what we’ve heard before about the upcoming updates heading to Symbian, but we haven’t heard about the “true zoom camera” bit before. It could mean the re-introduction of smartphones with optical zoom. The last Nseries devices with that kind of zoom were the Nokia N93 and N93i. I’m definitely interested, but might have to wait a while.
