The Unofficial, Unannounced Nokia X7 No Longer Heading to AT&T

How could a device not officially announced by neither Nokia nor AT&T get cancelled? Today’s rumor is the Nokia X7 is no longer heading to AT&T. Someone familiar with the matter told us the X7 is indeed no longer heading to AT&T, but an unlocked version will still be released in several markets. I wonder how this affects their joint announcement during CES that a Qt-enabled Symbian smartphone is coming to AT&T in the first quarter.

Nokia x7

Contrary to Pocketnow’s report, we were told it was Nokia who decided not to release the Nokia X7 for AT&T. Any guesses on what the disagreement was about?

Calling bullshit, seeing how AT&T is still with Nokia on the innovation contest.

    • Viipottaja

Exactly. A very strong stench of BS on this rumor, I would say.

I wish it weren’t true either, but our trusted source says otherwise. No
        more x7 for at&t.

And this trusted source is? Certain source disagrees.

Given your connections/sources with nokia its hard not to believe you. however, any indication as to why?

also, perhaps it is being replaced by another model? delayed?

This seems like an interesting device. i hope it’s penta band radio like the other Symbian 3 devices. i’d rather use it on T-Mobile anyway. Perhaps they want to come with something stronger for the US like a Meego device?

Mark, I have a feeling that Nokia held off the launch to wait for their big UI update with everything re-written in Qt. They can’t afford to release a device in the US with the same Symbian UI that many Americans already despise. We may not see the X7 after-all, but SOMETHING will be coming from Nokia to AT&T. Just a matter of getting the software figured out. And I can’t wait for it on my N8!

  • Viipottaja

Oh and _IF_ it is cancelled and Nokia cancelled it, it was probably because AT&T had, as usual, unreasonable demands, such as removing Ovi or Maps or some such nonsense. But, I am fairly sure this rumor will turn out to be not true.

    • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

At&t had unreasonable demands and Nokia didn’t think the device would sell
well if they agreed to them.

  • Korumbooru

we hope it’s cancelled for something better ..!!

  • Johnny99

I suppose it didn’t meet the quality standards required for AT&T release.

  • Paul

Yes this was supposed to be announced day after tomorrow! But as said, is now cancelled. Reason being that it would have not made profit i.e. Nokia would have lost money.

    • Viipottaja

Bummer if true. Perhaps Nokia should have accepted that and use this is a loss leader.

They (nokia) need to release more phones in the USA, to the major (at&t and verizon) in order to gain track there
