Vlog: Nokia N96 OTA Firmware Update Walkthrough

The Nokia N96 received a firmware update to version 12.043 today and since I haven’t done an over the air (OTA) update before, I decided to capture it on video for those who haven’t seen how it works. I love it! This is how all firmware updates should be.

Note: Head to the blog if you can’t see the video below in your RSS reader.

You can try this on your FP2 phone, too. Press *#0000# at the main screen, then click on “check for updates.” Let it do its magic if it finds an update. The phone restarts with the new firmware. Simple, fast, easy.

I usually have to run Windows XP on my Mac while connected via a USB cable to do an update. Doing an upgrade just using the phone is much user-friendly, so I’m all for OTA!

    wait i dont get this
    i have the N96 NAM edition
    i bought it at Best Buys like last week
    and my version is 11.018.216.2
    and when i tried updating
    it said no updates availble
    how is that possible?
    how is it that i didnt get the updates from 11.018 to 12.04????
    is there somewhere i can get the update file???
  • @Jim, Sorry I should have mentioned this was the Euro edition, model Nokia N96-1. I don't think the NAM version (Nokia N96-3) got the update yet.

  • @Jim, you can go here europe.nokia.com/A4577224 and follow the instructions to find out if any updates are available for your phone.
  • Impressive isn't it. Did my trial N96 the other day too.

    Red Bends FOTA technology is certainly the way forward when it comes to updating your Nokia device's firmware. 120MB file voa NSU converted to around 12MB via FOTA. Impressive.

    ive got the n96 in australia and on v 10. and when i try to get updates ota it says there is none avaliable does any one know when the updates will be avaliable in australia via vodafone

    hey that was a great option.. I tried it on my new N96 and it was like a smooth operator .. I love how easy it was to update comapred to the comupter hookup method.. with this method, there were no problems, no glitches and none of my data or applications was lost.. Way to go!!!

    hi, im also using n96 and its firmware version is 11.18. but when i try to update it to the new version 12.043, its saying no update available!!

    please advice me how to update my unit.........

    try changing product key but the only thing is you will lose the guarantee but you will be able to update then

    I have the N96-1 Full black edition one even the side of the phone is black & I have the firmware 11.018 & i'm in India it's saying I have no updates. Anybody has any info
