Nokia to Release 7 or 9-inch Meego Tablet 4th Quarter 2010?

A research senior analyst at Digitimes reported that Nokia is currently preparing to launch a tablet with the Meego OS. The analyst believes that it will be released during the fourth quarter of 2010. He added that 100 engineering samples were already completed for testing.

Can the Meego tablet compete with Steve “Moses” Jobs’ iPad?

Other technical details include that the Meego tablet will be ARM-based and that the display panel will be manufactured Foxconn. Pricing was not mentioned.

Mobile insider Eldar Murtazin added to the speculation by tweeting, “Nokia Tablet Z500 is out to the world, nothing special or great.” Hmm… Z500? Tell me more!

Here's the problem Nokia will have taking on the iPad….they'll also be competing against the iTunes content store (including the App Store).

You can watch a Season pass of a TV show from iTunes or read, say, the latest Stephen King e-book, using the Kindle app, on an iPad.

Without content, the Meego tablet will sell as well as the Joojoo or any of the other tablet competitors, i.e. not very well.

Jimbo has it spot on. Nokia is lagging competition mostly due to its lack of content available. Plus the ease of the itunes experience is critical. Nokia's management are misguided to have thought Symbian will be a success in smartphones for them and now Meego which is just as crappy on the app storefront side at the very least. My recommendation is get the iphone4 and experience a true, enlightening smartphone experience and sell your Nokia stock via your iphone e*trade app!

apple genius. I have been on the IT side, probably longer than u ever used any computer or gadget.
Apple did inovate certain fronts in its own way. But there is no doubt about the darkness lying ahead if such a one-sided, hypocrit, cash-centered, disrespectful and narcisit company were to flourish as our future solo number 1.
If u are as open as I am and test a little of everything… U will notice they have a real wrong perception of things!
I have used an Iphone (2 versions of it) and loved it up until the point I noticed how selfish and limitating the device is… compared to its potential.
The same goes unfortunately for the rest of the apple soft/hardware…

and exactly what precludes Nokia or MeeGo from also having the same content? As far as I know, Hulu can come to any OS it likes, as can Kindle, etc. They seem intent to proliferate across many OSes, and MeeGo's Nokia/Intel connection are pretty compelling as far as reach.

I think people want MeeGo tablets as laptop replacements, while Apple isn't as good in that respect.

Define “lag”. Selling more devices? Inventing the smartphone OS? Being the standard Apple and Android use as their benchmark (remember, they improved UI/UX, but not Symbian's feature set)?

iTunes isn't as loved as you may imagine, and Nokia is actually trying to avoid needing to use PCs at all, and when necessary, not requiring a special software front end.

There are no MeeGo apps, since MeeGo is still in development, but Maemo, MeeGo's father, has plenty of useful apps. There may not be the SAME apps, but the same functionality. I'd say with MORE functionality.
