Photodriving and Geotagging with the Nokia N82

Instead of photowalking, I was photodriving using the Nokia N82. This basically means I was taking pictures while driving. With the addition of Shozu, all the pictures I took were also geotagged with the current location. What I get as a result are photos uploaded to Flickr show up as dots on a map where the pictures were taken from. If you connect the dots, you can slightly see the path taken. This is also possible with other Nseries phones enabled with GPS like the Nokia N95.

Geotagging the pictures were possible because of Shozu. Install, enable geotagging in the settings, and you’re all set. I chose to upload all my photos to Flickr because in my opinion it is the best for hosting photos. You can view the geotagged photos taken today on Flickr or view below.

Other applications like GPSed and Locr are also available for geotagging pictures but I have not tried them out yet.

  1. Hi Mark,

How reliable is the GPS reception on the N82? I’ve used a Nokia 6110 Navigator and it’s GPS reception is rubbish. It took 40 seconds to get a lock, standing outside on a property way out of the city.

Will the N82 keep a satellite lock inside the car as well? Is it as good as the SiRF star receivers?

    Thanks and love the blog!

  2. @DTM the N82 is fast locking on to location. Unbelievably fast. I took a picture, and Shozu ran in the background to take my GPS location right away to geotag the photos.

  3. I couldn’t find the n82 as an option when downlaoding Shozu. Where you using an alternative phone?

  4. for shozu and the nokia n82, you want to download the software for the n95 instead since they don’t list the n82 yet. via the phone, browse to: http://m.shozu.com.

  5. Right @nada. Thanks for the tip.

  6. hey there can you do geotagging with the 6110 navigator. the gps on this phone is the best I never have a problem getting a connection.
