Otterbox has a reputation for being high quality and immensely protective yet they are also extremely fiddly and notoriously difficult to take on and off. 

Today, we’ll be showing you the process on some of the latest smartphones on the market but this case is also available for a variety of makes and models, making this a very versatile, must have product. 

Installation

To begin with, we’re going to take you through the installation steps. It’s very quick and easy and only takes 2-3 steps to complete. Before we start, I’m going to lay out all the sections clearly so we know what we’re working with. As you’ll see, there are 3 parts, the outer rubber shell and the 2 part inner frame that houses the phone. 

Step one

Start with the bottom half of the frame lying flat on the table and place the phone in the tray facing up. Now take the top part of the frame and place it over the top of the phone. As you’ll see along the sides, the frame has a series of clips along the edges indicated by the arrows on the back. Each clip matches up with the upper frame to lock the phone in place. 

Working your way around the edges, push each clip into place making sure they are all locked down. 

Step Two

Take the outer rubber shell and place the phone inside the casing, starting with the top end first before pushing the bottom half into place. To seal the outer shell around the inner frame, push the phone into the base from the bottom first before gently pushing the edges in and over the lip around the screen. 

Step Three

Check all buttons and ports are positioned correctly inside the rubber casing, pushing all dust caps in to finish the process. Now you have a completely protected phone that gives the ultimate 360 protection from anything life throws at it. 

Removing the Case

But if there comes a time where you need to remove the case, it’s just as simple as putting it on but in reverse order. 

Step One

Use your finger to pry away the outer shell along the seam that runs the length of the screen. It’s best to start from the bottom near the ports and work your way around it, pulling it away bit by bit. If you struggle to get under the outer shell, you can always pop out the charging port dust cover and use this to lift it away as a starting point. 

Step two

Now you have the outer shell off, you need to undo all the catches along the edge. To do this, start on one side and begin lifting the catch from the bottom to release the top frame using a finger or a coin to help ease it apart. 

Step three

Once the frame is loose, lift it away and take the phone from the bottom tray, clipping the frame back together and re-attaching the outer shell for easy storage. 

So there you have it, 3 easy steps to installing and removing the Otterbox Defender to give your phone the best complete protection. The Defender series comes in various styles depending on which phone you have but the installation process is the same from phone to phone.

Taking the case out of the box, you’ll find it ready assembled so you’ll need to take it apart before you begin. The Defender comes in 3 sections, the flexible rubbery outer shell and the two part interlocking inner frame. 

Taking off the outer shell requires peeling away the edges to get to the frame underneath. There’s a seam that runs along the entire edge of the screen. Using your fingernail or a thin object, pry the outer layer off starting at the bottom and working your way to the top. If you can’t find a tool suitable for this then you can lift out the rubber cap over the lightening port and use it to pull at the outer shell until it separates from the inner casing. 

Now you’ve removed the outer layer, you need to separate the two halves of the inner shell. Along the edges, you’ll find a series of clips and notches holding the two together. Starting with the side, unclip the latches and begin prying each catch apart, working your way around the edges, until the top layer comes away. You’ll know how many there are from the indication arrows embedded on the back. 

This is the same process for removing the case from the phone, so simply follow these steps when the time comes to take off the case. 

Now the case is ready to insert the phone. Lay your note to into the base and place the top section over the top of the phone. Be sure you’ve placed the phone in the right way up by matching the phone’s cutouts with the lightning port on the bottom. 

Press down gently on the top of the frame to push the clips back into place. Work your way around the edges, pushing down each clip to check that it’s secure. 

Next, take the rubber outer layer and place the phone inside end first. To finish the installation, simply push the edges back into place, pushing up from the back before pressing it in from the sides. 

Now your iPhone 11 Pro Max is fully protected from whatever life throws at it. Although the case is quite thick, it’s worth the additional weight for giving you peace of mind.

It slips on easy giving instant cover and all the buttons and ports are nicely covered in the same tough bumper as the corners while maintaining that perfect functionality with a satisfying click. 

The only downside to this case is the rainbow effect that can appear between the case and the back of the phone as it has no anti smudge tech imbued to avoid this problem. But apart from this, it’s great value case that looks brilliant.

This ergonomic option provides excellent slimline protection that save your phone from damage while giving it that overall classy style.

In today’s blog, we will be showing you some of the best budget cases available for the iPhone 11. Even though we’ve linked all cases for the iPhone 11, they are also available for the 11 Pro and Pro Max models.

Of course, we know that Rose Gold colouring isn’t to everyone’s taste, but for the price it’s exceptionally great at keeping away those scratches and scuffs and helps avoid those damaging drop with the hand ring attachment. 

We’ve even tried it with wireless charging and it works perfectly fine thanks to it’s thin nature. 

2. Ringke Fusion X Protective Clear Case

As one of our favourite cases, the Ringke X does a great job in protecting your phone from drops and surface wear while offering that clear window into your phone’s colour of choice. 

Available in plain black, space blue and Camo black as you see here, this case adds that little hint of style to your phone to help show off your personality. The ridge bumper around the edge is designed to aid a tighter grip to stop it slipping in hand but we like it for it’s space age, modern look. It’s highly protective, absorbing impacts to the corners and edges and utilising the rubbery covers to keep your vulnerable buttons and ports safe from everyday harm. 

Of course, Ringke is well known for its low costs and high quality but what makes this a great budget case is its multitude of functions that most regular slimline clear cases don’t offer. The only downside to the case is it’s lack of anti rainbow or smudge defences on the inside of the back window, meaning it can be prone to annoying imperfections between the phone and the TPU backing. This is why we recommend the Camo black covering as it still allows you to see the phone’s colour and design but it also covers up any potential imperfections. 

We also tried this case with wireless charging and of course, it worked perfectly fine. 

3. Olixar FlexiShield Gel Case

Though it won’t necessarily protect your phone from harsh impact damage, this case is the perfect minimal option that keeps your phone free from everyday wear and tear. 

Available in a range of colours and sizes, this flexible rubbery case slips on smoothly and fits incredibly well, matching the iPhone look and feel to perfection. 

What we like about this case is the colour range as Olixar have chosen a pallet best suited to the latest iPhone colour scheme, so just like we have here, you can find a low cost phone case that camouflages nicely with your chosen design without having to get an official case.  

As it’s so flexible, the button coverings and access cutouts work in harmony with the buttons touch sensitivity and leave a nice open space to plug in the lightning cable without fumbling. 

It’s naturally quite grippy which really helps maintain a firm grip so even if it won’t fully protect from drops, it at least helps me keep it in hand while out and about.
